Long term review – I am am a professional engineer and former technician, I have had this dishwasher for 15 years (bought 2007). We use it everyday and it is packed full each time. The original wash pump lasted about 7 years, and then I had to replace the pump each year until about 3 or 4 years ago. The mode of failure was that the pump seals would wear out and then… Read more

let water into the motor bearings. After about 5 pumps in a row I decided to try and dismantle the new pump assembly to access and inspect the seals. When I did I found that they were almost entirely dry - that is devoid of grease. The are 2 seals stacked on top of one another. I used a good quality food grade grease (inox brand in my case), and a long flat screwdriver blade to pack the grease between the 2 seals until no more would go in. Unfortunately the pump body is moulded with the 2 halves fused together. That means you cannot replace these seals that are trapped within the moulded pump, but you can remove the dome nut from the end of the shaft and pull the motor shaft out of the captive impeller. This gives you access to the seals from the back of the pump body. The door counterweight springs are attached to cords that eventually wore down and broke. I have replaced those. The dishwasher by design does not spray the top/middle and bottom spray arms at the same time. It constantly switches between them. It does this by using a small servomotor to rotate a curved flap that spins at about 5 or 6 rpm (depending upon power frequency) that constantly diverts the water between the top and bottom spray arms. You will hear the sound change every 5 to 6 seconds if you listen during a wash. Eventually after 15 years the seal on this flap leaked and water fried the servomotor . I bought a new seal (called packing) and vane (which is incorrectly called a check valve) and servomotor (called a vario motor), and heavily greased the part of the seal that has contact with the rotating vane only. I have also replaced the drain hose which suffered mechanical damage, and a nylon coated rack that was cut badly by incorrectly loaded knives over many years and started to rust out. But that is 15 years of constant abuse, and it has done about 7000 washes. The electronics have been perfect. The fill valve stuck once at about 6 years, and I figured it was calcium deposits from our hard water. I filled the opening with CLR (acid based cleaner for lime scale) and cycled the fill valve. Unfortunately I also used some WD40 after which took a few washes to dissipate that taste, but 9 years on from the minor fix it is still working perfectly. So I would say if you are able to maintain it, it works as well as can be expected from any heavily used complex appliance, but if you replace the wash pump, you MUST remove the motor shaft from the pump body (leave the captive impeller) and pack grease between the seals to avoid premature and repetitive failure. If you change the vario motor, buy new packing and check valve as that will be the root cause of failure of that part. Oh, and remove the stainless steel mesh screen after removing the filter in the bottom of the cabinet and always clean both the coarse and fine cylindrical filter (under the mesh screen). The fine one sits unseen under the mesh screen which you can just lift out from the front once you untwist the coarse screen and plastic holder from the floor of the cabinet. The bottom spray arm will just pull up if you give it a good pull. Most of the issues are caused by the the un-lubricated replacement wash pump seals.

Update as of September 2024. Well a few weeks ago the an error message popped up in the LED display mid-wash. I think it was E1 or E01 or something similar. after 17 years I have decided to retire the dishwasher and purchase a new one. I bought another LG - an XD3A25 PS https://www.lg.com/au/dishwashers/xd3a25ps/ and I have to say that this new dishwasher is 17 years more advanced. Modern dishwashers soften the water with salt, and the overall performance is astonishing compared with this old girl. To read more I will write another review under the relvant model.

Great model – We've had this model for about 5 years. In this time we have had no issues and I would highly recommend this model. Only slight design problem is that sometimes the back glasses on the top shelf don't wash as well as. Long hot cycle goes for about 2 hours and washes really well and short rinse is about 50 minutes. This is a large dishwasher and would be great for a family.  Show details

Love it – Love every aspect of this dishwasher. Fits a lot of dishes, runs quietly, and dishes still come out sparkling. Has been very loyal for the past 7 years and we have never had a problem. Am only upgrading due to needing to put this dishwasher into another property so thought I'd treat myself. This dishwasher still looks as new as the day I bought it!  Show details

Absolute rubbish – I've just inherited this machine in a move to a new house. The wash choice is ridiculous. The quickest wash is 35 minutes and the next option is 1 hour 47 minutes! Are you serious? The major problem though is that is doesn't wash well at all. Having used the 35 minute program a few times and been disappointed, I decided to use the longer… Read more

wash. The results were the same, dishes still dirty, glasses speckled with 'bits' inside and out.

I'm delighted to see so many people saying these machines breakdown. I can't wait for mine to do so so I can put it in the bin where it belongs.

Dodgy lower arm and basket drawer – The lower washer arm strikes the rear of the dishwasher WHEN it rotates, which isn't very often because it gets stuck on the underside of the lower basket/drawer. There is no visible adjustment for the lower drawer that I can see. The lower washer arm was broken when we bought the house, so replaced it with a genuine LG LD-1415M washer arm - so… Read more

can't understand why it hits at the rear of the washer or why it sits so high that it gets caught in the bottom of the lower dishdrawer. Also has a leak out of the front door when opened to empty the washer; I have a new seal for inside the small fan unit ordered which I hope fixes this problem (potentially water is getting into the electronics on the front of the door). About to chuck this to the kerb and go buy another brand as a replacement before too long if these issues keep going. Would not recommend this or LG as a dishwasher manufacturer based on this experience.

Over $2500 in repairs over 5 years – With out doubt the most unreliable dishwasher I have ever owned. If your going to buy one make sure you buy an extended warranty and that the machine will be inoperable for up to two months per year. I have owned it for 5 years and here is a list of the failures. 1. The front rusted out 2. Main pump went 3. Server directing water to bottom wash… Read more

arm failed

4. Some horrible grinding noise - Some thing replaced - I think it was a secondary pump

6. Main pump replaced (Again)

I have 2 months warranty left (Of the extended warranty ) - First failure after that , its gone Looks Modern Very unreliable

Unhappy – I have had nothing but trouble with my LD 1415M1 dishwasher since day one. First it was extremely noisy, then it wouldn't dispense the washing powder, then it would stop mid cycle and finally it wouldn't work at all coming up with error code "E1". I have had LG out to look at it and they couldn't find anything wrong with it. As it is now out of… Read more

warranty it has cost me a lot of money in repairs and I have now given up and decided to buy a new one. I wouldn't recommend it, which is a shame cause I have a lot of LG products and have always been extremely happy with them.

Would never buy LG again!!! – Bought this dishwasher approx. 5 yrs ago. Had to replace PC board after 2 years. Water pump failed 18 months ago. Rust forming inside door. Was great when we first bought it but we seem to have bad luck with LG appliances failing as soon as warranty expires. I consider this an average valued dishwasher and would have expected at least 5 trouble free year of use! Titanium Finish, quiet Failed after 2 years

Pump failed after 2 years – After about 1.5 years it got noisier and then after further 6 months the pump has failed. The racks are mediocre and tend to fall down. Washing is fine. Noise even when new was barely acceptable. However it was pretty cheap, cheaper than renting over that period. The seal on the front went within 6 months which is causing slight leakage out of the… Read more

front. Cheap, decent number of program's. Seal on the front went, trays are breaking, pump has failed.

Good – We are a 2 person household and load the dishwasher every day, but only run when full - every 2-3 days, so the flip knife & fork tray I thought would be very handy, is actually useless - you have to make sure it is the last thing that is loaded ;-( we have since removed this flip tray. The ability to split knife & fork basket is very good, but… Read more

you do have to be careful where you place it when split - it can fall over. quieter than our previous LG model The only real disappointment is that it does leave the dishes wetter than previous LG dishwasher and does take quite some time to completely dry (with door ajar) after cycle has finished.

Excellent – We are very happy with this dishwasher - it is well designed and built, energy-efficient and has proven to be excellent value for money in all respects. I would certainly look at buying another LG dishwasher in the future. Firstly, our LD-1415W1 does what it is supposed to do - washes dishes very well, even on the most economical setting (Eco50),… Read more

when it uses no energy to heat the water any higher than it comes out of the hot tap. The five wash options seem very useful for various types of loads, although we have used only 2 or 3 of them thus far, finding the Eco50 more than adequate for most washes.

It needs only half as much dishwashing powder as our previous washers and the rinse-aid also seems to last longer.

It is easy to load and unload and I find the separating mesh lid on the utensil container allows the cutlery to be washed more effectively but still easy to unload.

I like the quiet, unobtrusive operation and the discreet chime that tells you when it is finished. Generally a pleasure to use. I was a bit surprised by the length of the cycles (these are given in a digital read-out when selecting the wash options) but I guess it's a trade off for the low temperature setting, moderate water consumption and miserly use of powder. In fairness, I had never timed how long any of our previous dishwashers took but on Eco50 it's a bit short of 2 hours.

There is no mechanical latch on the door, which was also surprising but this doesn't seem to create any problems and we have no young children who might try to open it while its running.

The drying function is limited in its effectiveness but again, this is probably due to our use of the Eco50 setting, in which the crockery does not retain as much heat.

Hate it - doesn't clean and breaks down – Bought this dishwasher in June 2007. From the beginning it never dried very well nor did it clean on the top shelf. Just prior to the end of the extended 3yr warranty (June 2010), the whole motor had to be replaced. One year on and the motor needs to be replaced again! The digital display that shows the time remaining on a cycle Doesn't clean on… Read more

the top shelf. At the end of the cycle (even on the hottest/intensive cycle) I take out more dirty items than clean. Even glasses that go in having only had water or soft drink in them, come out dirty. We keep the dishwasher clean and regularly use Finish dishwasher cleaner which helps but only for a very short period. Items (particularly plastic but not restricted to plastic) are not dried well. Also, the dishrack at the bottom that can be moved to accommodate larger plates is useless because with the slightest knock it falls open and causes all my plates to collapse onto themselves. At first I thought this would be a great feature, now I wouldn't buy a dishwasher that had this.

Great – I think this is a great machine I have never had a problem with it I would definatly buy another LG dishwasher and I would reccomend i to my friends My Mother just brought one because she likes mine so much!! and they almost allways come out clean. There is no catch on the door so its easy to open I have 3 kids and they have never opened the door while its in use and if you do open it mid cycle it stops straight away (I have tested this) I've had my dishwasher for 4 years and never had a problem with it. The only thing I dont like is the length of time it takes to wash and if its set on the shorter wash the dishes dont dry as well But I think they are very minor things.

Less than average machine made worse by poor aftermarket service – We use the quick wash function as we often do two loads a night. Items stacked in the top shelf often are left with a soapy film and never dries well. After 8 months of use, the LD1415W1 developed a fault with error message E1 appearing. It took over a week for LG service to visit (we had to take a day off work to facilitate the service call),… Read more

then another week (and another half day of work)for the tech to come back with a part. The part didn't fix the fault and we have been waiting another week with no news on when the job will be complete.

The machine has stopped working over a month ago as is still not fixed. A formal customer complaint sent to LG website nearly a week ago has not been responded to. Inexpensive and easy to use Does not clean very well. Extremely poor back-up service

Great Dishwasher! – This has been a great machine that gets the job done every time. I would certainly buy another LG Dishwasher (this is the first time I have done so and wasn't sure what to expect). Bad – Bought this recently and it's going back to the store. Doesn't wash or dry decently unless you run it at the hottest temp. Also, I've been using decent dishwasher tablets and it leaves tiny drops of powder residue on dishes. It might run better with normal powder or liquid. Another note of warning... I had to wait 45 mins on the phone for… Read more

support from LG... that's unacceptable for a multinational like LG in my opinion. I complained that it wasn't washing or drying properly when I washed at 50 deg. They told me to run it a hotter temp which does away with any environmental benefits you would normally get at the 50deg Eco setting.

I'm now going with a German made dishwasher, prob Miele or AEG Titanium finish looks good; Price-- avail for $799 in some shops. Leaves dishpowder residue; doesn't wash or dry well on anything less than 70deg; Long wait times for LG phone service;

Good – I have had this dishwasher for nearly 12months now and am very happy with it. I have not experianced any of the problems listed in the other reviews.
