Disgusting – We have had this machine for 6 years now and it has given little but trouble. It has been for warranty repair twice (luckily we took out a 5-year warranty), but now that has expired and it has failed again. The situation is actually much worse than just 2 failures as many times it would suddenly just stop reading a dvd half way through a movie or… Read more
refuse to boot up or get stuck or whatever. This product has been a very bad experience and I shall never, ever buy an LG device again. Nothing stood out that was really likeable. It was very temperamental and only occasionally worked as it should.
Old machine now (6 years old) and still a great interface and going strong! – Have had this machine since new in 2007 and it has been great. So, so easy to program and the little icons with images of your recorded programs in the file manager is great. Wife loves it so much that when the only problem we've had has been our son playing with the DVD drive and making it un-workable, we got hold of Statewide Appliances in… Read more
South Australia and I bought and replaced the drive and the machine is now working 100% again. Was region free out of the box too! So easy to program. Even Blind Freddy would know it is only an SD channel recorder. Upscales to 1080i and it plays DVD's region free. None really. Not sure why others are so damning of this unit.
Ok Unit – Bought in Nov 2008 and had issues with timer. But after firmware upgrade that fixed it, October 2009 the DVD drive decided not to read DISCs anymore. Sent it in for warranty which seemed to fix it. No problems since. Update August 2017: Still working after nearly 9yrs. Remote buttons are starting to decay and go all sticky though. Heaps of inputs and outputs. Good user interface. quality is average. Show details
Terrible – Bought two units new in 2007 at $420.00 each. One failed to initialise the hard drive in the first week. Replaced by the retailer with a new one. In the second year one unit had a optical drive fail, so we decided to use that one for hard drive recording only. Now the second unit has the optical drive failing and these are currently $100.00… Read more
new. Standard computer DVD drives cannot be used as a spare part. Considering we play one DVD per week at most, this has not been a good buying decision. No more LG for home electronics again. Menu system easy to use, remote responds quickly (no lag), fast forward and review speeds consistent (unlike Probox PVR), HDMI out. Hardware failure, specifically the optical unit and hard drive. Also, the hard drive in the 80GB unit too small for any decent amount of recording.
Terrible, nothing but problems – Terrible, nothing but problems with it from the get go. I also have a Surround sound sytem by LG, thats bad to. Not good enough LG Dissapointing, bought my whole entertainment system as LG, what a mistake. This units DVD drive wouldnt open or close properly before the first 12 months, put up with it, i would just hang on to the tray before it… Read more
would close itself while putting dvd's in, then the timer recording sometimes wouldn't work, tested it a couple of times, it would turn itself on to record and then just turn off again. heaps of glitches, currently being fixed by extended warranty. Wont buy LG again.
Terrible – Not worth buying. DVD played up after 18mths - press play and tray would open, etc. everything seemed to be scrambled. wouldn't turn off - had to switch off at wall sometimes. after about a year it became very noisy when operating. we still have it to use set-top box and record tv but DVD tray doesn't work anymore - I became so frustrated one… Read more
night couple of weeks ago that I deliberately tried to pull the damned thing out!
Would hesitate buying any other LG product as we didnt' fare much better with our TV !! Easy to use. Slimline look. Don't recall having much probs setting up. Bit of a nuisance requiring tv to be on to read menu to change functions, play music etc.
Bad – Now just over two years old. When we bought it, it had a software problem which prevented recording from channels who broadcast status changes. The recorder stopped and waited for user input when none was actually needed. LG took it in for service and updated the firmware which overcame that problem. There are still a few software issues and the… Read more
machine will freeze if you hurry it too much, so that it has to be reset.
The DVD drive died after about 23 months. The drive is specific to the RH2Txxx series and cannot be replaced by an industry-standard physical format DVD drive from LG or anybody else. The replacement 'special' drive was $109 for the part, or about 25% of what I paid for the appliance, which is a rip-off. I put it in myself. Price, features, usability, flexibility of operation. Upscale of video output to HD. Not reliable enough, software glitches, must be turned off to start a timed recording otherwise it is skipped. No USB, SD-only tuner with no down-scale.
Terrible – Overall- This recorder is rubbish! I would never buy LG equipment again! For an expensive HDD recorder and endless trips to the electrical store, I has been a complete lemon- sorry LG. Easy to use, but read below Played a DVD once and has never worked since! Oddly will still play DivX and HDD works. LG repaired once but his lasted less than one month! I would never buy again!
Good – I've had this recorded for a few years now and it is still going strong. No hesitiation in recommending this unit or LG products to others. Easy to use and flexible unit. Able to play DVDs, record TV shows onto hard drive and also to record files to DVDs. This also has an inbuilt digital TV tuner which is far superior to the old TV signals that… Read more
are going to be phased out soon anyway. Thers is a limited amount of recording hours on the unit. It would be better if it could have a bigger memory to be able to have more recorded files.
Bad – Not good. I wouldn't recommend this product. It seems that it is not very well made despite the 'reputable' brand and the decent price tag. Very disappointed but feel we have to persist with it becasue of the money we spent on it not that long agao. Fairly easy to use, easy set up, good storage capacity, love the record daily (excludes… Read more
weekends)/weekly function Have had nothing but problems with it! The DVD recording stopped working after a couple of months and then it wouldn't play DVDs and then the DVD drawer wouldn't even open. We had it repaired within warranty period but the repair only lasted a short time. We still can't record DVDs 2 years on. Only single tuner so can't record one channel and watch another
Terrible – Don't buy any LG product. The products are badly designed/made (my LG TV also needed repair in the first 6 months) It worked for nearly 5 months It has now broken down twice in the first year of use! LG refuse to replace it. The want to continue to 'FIX' it. The last fix lasted less than 3 months and it's broken again. LG refuse to repace it or… Read more
refund my money. They tell me it is no longer their reponsibility once it is outside of the one year warranty period at the end of this month.
I am taking action against them with the Department of Fair Trading.
Good – Positive, especially for warranty. The local repairer was not suitable so LG couriered it to Sydney and return gratis faster than the local warranty person could fix it. Generally the unit is a workable solution for an avid free tv watcher. The timeshift function is magic. Easy to use, it did everything I asked of it and more. The DVD recorder… Read more
broke after 6 months and was replaced promptly under warranty I have no idea what the DivX functionality is for as it is not for DVD recording, nor transferring to a PC. The 80GB drive is too small to store movies permanently. A USB port would be good.
