Excellent – Is a great planer and handles pine and hardwood. Has very good quality blades and cuts nicely. I have one of these as does my Dad and no complaints yet. Is defently worth the extra money over its competitors. Excellent quality Makita construction. Has the best base plate on a planer that i have seen is made of aluminium and has a great bevel groove. Nothing Yet.

Excellent – I bought this one even though it was more expensive but I had to buy good quality as I was doing a lot of hardwood sleepers for the back yard (retaining walls and steps). I wanted a good smooth finish and thats what I got. It cut very well with and against the grain as the blades were extreemly sharp. The chamfering groove was nice and deep for easy chamfering as opposed to the pressed metal cheapies that are useless. Overall have had no problems and have not needed to change blades even though I did encounter numerous knotts in the hardwood. Would definately buy another but after 3 yrs of weekend use, I think I'll be right for a long time yet. solid consturction, alluminium base plate with chamfer groove, powerfull enough for hardwood sleepers, spare set of blades, carry case
