Purchased a 2015 GJ Series 2 Touring Wagon. So far car has been hassle free. There is a couple of issues that need rectifying which are well documented on Mazda forums. My speakers distort if the volume is high and this is due to a factory problem with the amplifier which is apparently not expensive to rectify. The other problem is the infotainment… Read more
screen is delaminating which once again is a manufacturing issue. It is great to drive very economical for a 2.5 litre petrol and the transmission works well. For $15000 with 125000ks on the clock it is better value and better equipped than any suv you can buy for that price.
My 2008 mazda 6 classic wagon has done 379000 without any issues whatsoever. A fantastic vehicle. Lovely to drive. Very quiet. The car feels solid. It glides and purrs along the highway. The 2.5l engine has plenty of power. A very comfortable car. The boot , fold down seats and blind mechanism is extremely practical. My vehicle has been used to… Read more
transport two dogs in the boot. Plenty of room for all our luggage as well. Great sounding stereo. I find the controls on the stereo very handy. Cruise control is great on long trips. There is sufficient leg room in the back seat for passengers.
This car has travelled 60km each day through very heavy, stop/start city traffic and has also done lots of country running. Fuel consumption is 8.8l/100km. I have always used premium unleaded and has never missed a 10000 service interval.
This car is currently being replaced with yet another Mazda 6. 16 years old and it looks like new. No issues with paintwork either.
I have looked at other makes and models over the years with the intention of replacing this car. I have hung onto it as i have never found anything else to be as practical. News of this model being discontinued prompted me to rush down to the dealer and order yet another Mazda 6 which I hope will provide me with many more years of happy motoring. An amazing vehicle. I simply can not fault this vehicle.

After owning a BMW E39 525i for many years I was concerned about driving experience of moving to a front drive 2025 20th Anniversary Edition Mazda 6 2.5l turbo. First drive dispelled my concerns completely. The 6 is a real match with the E39 for ride, comfort and handling the steering and driving dynamics and the boot is huge. The 2.5 turbo… Read more
engine is a revelation with bags of torque and more than adequate power with reasonable cruising fuel economy of better than 7l/100kms. The automatic transmission is one of the best I have ever experienced with almost imperceptible shifts and smooth power delivery and much better than most of the CVVT's out there. My purchase was based on the Japanese build quality of the Mazda (second to none), reliability, availability of parts and servicing. The interior of the 6 is spacious and a beautiful place to inhabit for long distance driving. Minor issues such as lack of traction control (careful with the throttle from a standstill on wet roads) and the age of the MZD infotainment system are minor irritations that one can live with. To borrow an old Jaguar marketing slogan "Grace, pace and space"

I love my Mazda6 but it's now gone and shortest car of ownership in history – Purchased a Mazda 6 new in 2024 wagon after looking at Mazda 3 and cx5. Test driven all 3 types. mentioned I love the car but not all of it. Although you can't fault the 6 speed transmission and 2.5 litre engine it needs more. The 6 speed auto box needs more like 8 plus working gears with the 2.5 litre it's under powered there's no zip in the car due to body weight overall and effects the fuel performance and economy overall. The engine is fitted with a I- ELOOP and skyactiv shut down cylinders whilst driving to improve fuel economy. The I-stop is feature of the car when you come to complete stop in traffic you will notice your engine sound sought of switch off. You will notice on the dash the wording i-stop and a automatic digital counter will begin from 1 sec when you apply the brake pedal. When you take your foot of the brake pedal to begin moving you will hear the sound of engine begin again. However i found i-stop system can't cope with the load in warmer weather especially with air conditioning and will switch back pretty quickly so there is no benefit under these conditions. I believe that if Mazda used current mazda6 wagon with 3.3 motors and updated new transmission, or new 2026 ICU engines with hybrid combination. power tailgate, changed the infotainment unit the car will create alot of interest and sell itself. The wagon gets alot of street appeal and interest for discussion. I have noticed when car is parked people walking by, other road users in their own cars looking at the car. I jumped over to new rav4 hybrid. I received a unexpected call from another rival manufacturer they assisted me with all aspects to move forward. So it was goodbye mazda6 within 2months of ownership and only 2500klms on odometer. Update - it is very sad to hear that Mazda is dropping the Mazda 6. Mazda Corporation has to take 100% responsibility for this. Let's face it from 2018 to the end they really didn't make the necessary changes required. Obviously a small percentage of loyal buyers was willing to still stand by the car regardless. Now a key model that built Mazda brand name is gone.
Best car I've owned – I bought my Mazda6 GH luxury sports back in 2017. The engine was gone due to overheating (blown radiator) and they drive it until it stopped. I bought it with 460000km that's right... 460000km! I put a low KM engine in it with the matching gearbox (only because the original one was noisy) and just drove it. I have the full service history on it.… Read more
The only issues I've had apart from routine service is tyres getting a bit noisy at the towards the end of their life and I have replaced the bose amp twice. I have now upgraded the head unit and done away with the factory system. Fuel economy is great. I average 7- 8lp100 km city driving and 6.5-7 on the highway (cruse control at 110kmh) I still use it every day and it's now got 560000km on it and it's going strong apart from 2nd gear gets a bit crunchy if u change gears quickly. This has been and still is the best car I have had and I've owned i have had alot of vehicles over the years. Sure it's not the fastest but it's zippy and u do need 2 keep ur eye on the speedo as it creeps up on you and comfortably will sit on high speeds and that feels like 80kmh. All in all its a great comfortable, well balanced, great handling, good performance and a safe car that looks good.
The Sort of Car Everyone Really Wants – The Mazda6 is the sort of care everyone really wants to own: totally reliable, good handling, practical, good on fuel and easy to service and repair yourself. Every now and then carmakers produce a car that has none of the irritations that go with car ownership: minor electrical faults, a component that needs to be replaced more often than it… Read more
should, noisy on the road and so on; the Mazda6 is one of them.
Expect 6.8 litres per 100 kilometers if you live in a rural area (that's over 42 imperial mpg). Not bad for a mid sized 2.3 litre car. Handling is excellent, as good as a 3 series BMW without the eye watering expenses that come with the latter. The car has a comfortable driving position and good vision all around. There is plenty of room inside and a decent sized boot. It also has all the things you need like good air conditioning/climate control and none of the things that you don't like heated seats and other useless items which bust and cost a month's pay to fix.
These cars are relatively easy to work on. You don't need an extensive set of tools and there are plenty of aftermarket parts available so you don't have to be robbed by the stealership for a water pump or a set of shocks. Furthermore, there is quite a bit of space in the engine bay and underneath so you don't need to be a octopus to change the plugs or oil filter.
This model dates from the time when Ford effectively owned Mazda and used a lot of Ford parts (my one even had Ford branded plugs in it). A positive outcome of this relationship was that Ford showed Mazda how to build a car that was not as bland as a microwave oven. Another plus is that these cars are actually made in Japan which is an indication that the overall quality should be pretty good.
The six speed manual will be much better in every respect than the auto. I believe the autos in the 3 and 6 of these years used a Jatco transmission which is best avoided. The model after used an Aisin transmission which should be okay. Nevertheless, check carefully by make, model and where it was made to avoid pain later.
Hope this helps someone...

Fuel pump failure after 110000 km on my 2015 mazda 6 – Fuel pump failed after 110000 km on my 2015 mazda 6. Bought new, fully serviced with mazda. Metal fragments found throughout fuel system. plate and when the when it was trying to change gear it was bouncing on and off the plate trying bind. That was Xmas 2021 so I had to waih unti Jan 2022 to have it repaired. Drove around in manualy mode until then. Now having had the repair done and $4,200.00 later I picked it up and after driving it home it was ok. The next day not so good, as the vibration came back, it thumped into gear, and for some reason in cruise mode at 80klm a very loud screaching whistle like 1,000,00 crickets filled the car. Turned it off. Then it started to thump in the gear while driving, needless to say it is back at the workshop and they can't find what is wrong with it? cruise control, risking your eyes on the road, a toggle stick would be better. Annoying istop system I always forget to disengage, with starter motor already replaced under warranty & battery replaced under warranty. Has a tendency to use engine oil between services, only done 140k kms. Harsh ride but handles well, together with road noise that is always heard. Sound of motor lacks character even with the dual exhaust it sounds hollow. Positives: excellent fuel economy 7.9 ltrs/100kms around town, 6.7 ltr/100kms freeway driving. 6 spd auto gearbox with manual sport mode & steering paddles is excellent. Aircon with econo mode is cold & excellent. Reverse camera & sensors are very handy with the lack of visibility through the low roof line. Brakes are excellent & so is the turning circle.

Nice car to drive but a few things could do better – Bought a second hand 2018 GL1031 model, 2.5NA engine, 19 inch wheels, leather (not nappa) seats, without the hi-tech gadgets eg., auto lane keeping, 360 degree cam, etc. It has only got 19K km on the clock and the ex-owner only used it to fetch kids to and from school. compared to my old GY Mazda 6. I think the material is called leatherette (?) a leather-looking plastic.
The other is the control panel. I think Mazda tried "too hard" to mimic BMW's driver's control setup. I need to know the knob well and what buttons around the the knob to correctly control the screen.
The car is comfortable to drive and steering is feather light, probably a bit too light to feel the road.
It is a stylish car and the external design is just eye-catching. But because of that, the internal space is compromised, including vision and accessibility. Not to mention the roof line in the rear is low so for those who are over 185cm (two in my family) feel a bit squashy.
I bought this at a very good bargain with an extremely low mileage so no complaint from a value for money perspective. But I would like it to be more practical from a spatial design perspective.
Overall, it is a good car and I am pleased with the purchase.
Edit: after 2 months of ownership, one thing I have found worrying is the i-stop function. I can only disable it every time I start the car and if in congested traffic, it can start/stop numerous times. Not to mention when just re-started, the car does not respond well to throttle. Not sure if it is also wearing the engine and battery off quicker.
Could be better, refer to items below – I have had my Mazda 6 sedan for about fifteen months. Mostly I am happy with the car. * The standard Toyo tyres are generally ok but not as good in certain situations, like on rutted roundabouts and uneaven surfaces. For the previous fifteen years I had been used to Pirelli tyres and will buy these as replacements when due. * The airconditioning… Read more
vents are not well positioned, especially on the driver's side. They don't move sideways enough if you like air in your face, unless you crank it up and then it is too noisy. Also, the left side of the instrument cluster impedes the air flow for the driver. * The emergency brake system is too sensitive. For example, if you round a moderate bend and a vehicle is parked inside the white line, but not in your lane, the brake warning light flashes as if the vehicle is in your way. This does not happen with our other car! * The dashboard is too high, despite having the seat set higher than when I bought it. These are mostly design issues, except the tyres. One really cannot judge everything on a test drive. Next time I will ask for a 24 hour test drive.
An open & honest appraisal of my Mazda 6 – I am retired & use this car as my daily driver as personal transport mainly for myself & my wife, occasionally including other family members. I have it serviced every 12 months even travelling less than 7000ks a year. I have never had any problems with it. Show details
Appearance is good, but build quality is really bad – Mazda 6 GT 2015 model bought from Mazda. From the day 1 squeaky noise coming when in turning. Till date Mazda couldn't figure it out and fix it. For the last couple of years, the rim coating is peeling off and looks really ugly. They say this is because of the car wash chemical I used. I always use Mcguiar's gold wash and I know it is good. So in my view, the quality of Mazda is bad. Stay away from Mazda. Show details

Why so low??? – I drive daily. Great car to drive with great internal finish But they have sacrificed style for practicality. Ive lived in my house for thirty years had multiple cars Toyota Corolla Holden commodore, Honda Accord x2 but this is the first car that bottoms out entering the garage. leather cracking, the guides for the front passenger headrest have had to be changed due to a rattle, the drivers window squeaks despite the weatherstrip already being changed, the ICC screen was failing and the replacement is better but still glitches. Now, still unresolved is a cracking sound from the dash area when you hit a mild bump in the road and a knocking from under the instrument panel. Finally, the windscreen wipers automatic function is appalling and basically unusable.
What is worse is just how hard it is to get anything fixed under warranty. The dealers have to sight the problem themselves and often miss it on test drives and Mazda Australia just dismisses any emails you send them referring you back to the dealer.

to use, and reasonably quiet. The stereos good, and connects well to all devices, even ancient Ipods. The sat/nav is a TomTom unit and as such is very user friendly. The rear seats fold down very easily, and the area is very useful. Lots of storage compartments, great little area for putting your keys, in the centre consul. Reasonable frugal, running the petrol 2.5 litre version. Get roughly 8 litres to the 100klms, a round town, that's Melbourne city driving. A bit better in the country. Decent rear seat accommodation. The inside is well finished, and durable. Have heard some criticism, about the reversing camera, I've found it works fine.
The things I don't like! It's not built for large or tall people, I'm 5.8 and it's ideal for me, if your over 6 you will struggle getting in and out. Space saving spare tyre, rated to 80kph. Under the rear deck looks like there's enough room for a full sized, that would be a plus. The stop start function, can be annoying.
Other things to add, original battery died at 7 years, the shockers went at 175k.

lot of little things, low weight, low profile, stop-start, capacitor that charges on braking. Things they could improve, not much, I did have to pull the doors apart and fix the Bose speakers, there was faulty(cheap) paint applied in the Mexican Bose factory so the noise was awful. Once I fixed, great. I’ve also had a problem where sometimes I lose drive for 2-3s and the car coasts along. I’ve worked out to change down gears and it jerks it out of it. The boot is small in the wagon but it’s managed to satisfy our needs, just make sure you see it first, still bigger lengthways than a CX-5. Sounds a bit like a tractor when you start it up but settles into a very subdued sound. Would be nice for a bit more aural engagement. The engine is adequate nothing more but you can use the flappy paddles to shift down to hurry it along if you want. Suspension for me is a tad floaty but just by a small margin, you can see they’ve softened it for the cosseted, adult driver rather than the spirited corner lover. I would by one again in a heartbeat, so reliable. I’ve put 100,000ks on no problem. If I had the money I’d go for the newer turbo engine. For now I’ll just keep this great car.
Best car I've driven to date – I bought this as my second car mainly for commuting. Man, this car is so smooth when you accelerate, you can hardly feel the gears changing. interior including the boot. Sound quality of the radio and CD player is excellent, better than a Honda Civic. The ride is comfortable but a seat cushion does help.
The exterior has a sporty look with twin exhausts. The downside of the exterior is that the paint is not good. It chips easily as compared to a Toyota. Stone chips can make the car look ugly so I bought myself a Dr color chip kit to fix them up. Avoid driving behind trucks with this car. Another downside is that the rear view mirrors (both door mirrors and interior mirror) are too much zoomed in and this can become a hazard while driving. I had to buy a round blind spot mirror for the door mirror and a wide view mirror for the interior as I was kept on getting blinded by other cars headlights.
I service this car regularly so haven't had any major issues. I am getting around 8.5L/100km fuel economy. I would say it is not that cheap to run overall as it is a fast car.
But overall I am very satisfied with this car and do not regret my purchase.
Mazda hit it out of the ball park with this car – I bought this car new in 2005. We had it until 8 months ago when it was written off @120,000 km's- the airbags deployed but no injuries thankfully. that matched the BMW 3 Series, which was the benchmark for mid-size sedans.
The 2.3 litre engine has this nice sporty growl at around 4000 rpm's, and it loves to rev there.
Literally not one repair needed other than service- I did the coolant, transmission flush, brake fluids on time. Air con worked flawlessly.
The boot is massive, bigger than my brothers E-Class of the time. The interior space as well is huge for a car this size
some say its noisy inside but if you buy a sedan and not hatch, and put some nice wool seatcovers its no noisier than a camry or corolla of the same vintage.
14yo manual Mazda 6 GG sedan is a joy to drive – I purchased my 2006 Mazda 6 GG (series 2) Classic Sports 6 speed manual sedan 18 months ago with around 75000km. let the car crawl along in first gear without touching the throttle - a dream for a manual. I like to drive and feel the controls. The steering provides good road feedback - I see some other reviewers say the steering is heavy... it is similarly weighted to a 3 series 323 BMW I owned previously (I paid more than double the price for second hand). The pedal placement is excellent. The gearbox and clutch are easy to use. I fitted Bridgestone Potenza Adrenalan RE003 not long after purchase and they still have plenty of tread after 35000km. It feels like it has plenty of life in it and I plan on handing it down to my son when he gets his licence. The GG model is fun to drive (if you like driving) - providing you are not looking for outright acceleration or speed. We also own a GH manual luxury hatch. It is a different type of car to drive, a bit more disconnected from the road and quieter. It has other attributes that appeal to my better half. Horses for courses. It has steering wheel controls for the stereo and cruise control. No Bluetooth on a car of this age. Fold down seats means you can load a full sized bicycle without taking off the wheels - if handle bars are not too wide.
Perfect family wagon – We have owned a Mazda6 wagon now for almost 18 months & it has been bullet-proof! A trip from Sydney to Melbourne & across Mt Gambier in South Australia, the comfort for passengers, the great driving experience for the driver & the load carrying capacity. Also the costs of running are another great incentive.
OK in general but the air conditioning keeps breaking and autolock played up – It's a 2006 vintage and a 2.3L wagon. Fully optioned. I bought it in 2016 from a well cared for owner. It had only got 65k on the odo. Pristine condition, not even a single scratch on the body. Still got a new car smell. The plastic wraps on the doorstep were still there. I wonder whether the car was ever driven if hadn't look at the odo. Anyway,… Read more
mechanically sound, did a full service including transmission oil change.
One year down my ownership, the air conditioning no longer cold. Took to the mechanic and the condenser was corroded and had a hole, so I was told. Changed that, then the year after, compressor problem, not cold again, changed it, then the fans at the front of the car broken, not cold, changed that. I must have spent thousands on the various trips to the mechanic just to address the air conditioning problem.
Then the autolock played up. If you want to open the tailgate, you can only use the key's remote. That means you have to stop the engine and take the key out. Worse is that it suddenly goes into "anti-hijack" mode. That means the car will lock itself and only can unlock using the key, even if you are inside! I was told this was designed to save you from someone jumping into your car hi-jack you. I don't think I am important enough for this car. I won't be hi-jacked. Rant over. Still a good car to drive.

Long term durability was not there – Disappointing sums up the 2010 Mazda6 classic. A great car to drive but was let down by three major items that went at once.
