Medela Swing Single Electric Pump

Good pump, however not very mobile friendly – I find this breast has great suction, easy to clean and work. However I feel if your want to be hands free and mobile, which I thought I would be- you need to buy a seperate boob tube top to hold the breast pump device in place. I feel this is slightly misleading in the advert, not including the boob tube. I also feel it is not entirely mobile… Read more
friendly, the pump jutts out like a lot and makes task challenging due to the device getting in the way.
I also found the plastic clip at the back of the pump is too shallow and I have dropped the pump on the floor due to it slipping of my jeans while walking around my house. I used a strong thick ribbon and threaded it through the top of the breast pump to secure the pump like a handbag while mobile.
I do like that its mains connected and battery operated, good battery life. However
Piece of rubbish – This pump is a piece of garbage. Doesn’t work for long and goes flat quickly after 10 mins. Takes ages to charge. Took back to baby bunting and contacted Madela and both were useless and refused to help. Ended up throwing it out and buying another brand Show details
STAY AWAY from Madela breastpump!! – I used a Medela pump 8 years ago for my daughter and had a great experience. However, for my second baby, I wanted a hands-free option so I could multitask. My husband purchased the Medela Swing Maxi Hands-Free Breast Pump from Chemist Warehouse in July 2024, just a few days after I gave birth. He even had to drive an hour to Epping since it was… Read more
out of stock at our local store.
Unfortunately, by December, I noticed the pump wasn’t working as well. It started sounding weaker and wasn’t extracting as much milk as before. Yesterday, it completely stopped working and won’t even turn on! It’s incredibly disappointing to spend $400 on a pump that only lasted six months. Sadly, my husband didn’t keep the receipt, so we can’t return or exchange it.
Today, I decided to try the hands-free breast pump from Kmart, and I’m blown away. For only $89, it has incredible suction, comparable to the Medela Freestyle that costs $499! To all the new mums out there, I highly recommend avoiding Medela. Save your money and consider better, more affordable options instead!

Essential if you have trouble lactating! – The Medela Swing is one of the most popular breast pumps available, and with good reason. Compact and sleek, you can operate it with batteries or mains electricity... but does it live up to its hype in performance? A resounding "yes"! Pros Performance. It is comfortable to use and has two strength phases to suit your desired milk flow. I had… Read more
trouble lactating in the early days with Baby, and the hospital encouraged my lactation with their (large) Medela model. So glad Medela created this compact little beauty for home use, as it certainly helped keep up lactation to create a steady flow, and thus, building my confidence as a Mum who really wanted to breastfeed.
Design. Sleek, compact and light. Pumping action does a decent job of simulating the baby sucking. Comes with a belt clip and neck strap. Automatically turns off after 25 mins. Can plug it into mains or use batteries for pumping on the go. (I've done it on a long drive and it was discreet due to its size!) Strong Swiss-designed motor.
Noise level. Reasonably quiet.
Reasonably easy to clean. Like with all baby gear, some parts are fiddly.
Cons
Could come with two bottles and perhaps a cover for the breast shield itself (instead of just the bottle).
At highest strength, it can get a bit sore if using for a long period of time.
Not within everyone's budget, but definitely worth the investment if you are considering a breast pump.
Good Machine. Easy to use – I’ve had my medela swing single pump for about 5 years with about 4 of those years in storage. I started using it again recently with our second child and it’s in as good condition as when I first purchased the item. I find the medela really good, although a little hard on my nipples when compared to my recent purchase of the pumpables genie,… Read more · 1
however I have found that the medela extracts a little more milk. It’s really easy to opearate and the buttons are very self explanatory. The pump comes with 1 size of breast shield so if you’re lucky, you don’t have to buy any other sizes. The membrane is easy to attach and the suction levels accommodate a wide range of requirements.
The power cord is a really good length, and the portability of being able to use batteries is great. The collection bottles are an ok size but the ones that came with the pump were only 150ml bottles so you need to have a few on the go once you baby is drinking more than 150 in a sitting. The bottles can be a bit of a pain those go as they don’t have a proper seal and leak in less you have the teat attached.
I can’t really fault this machine and only purchased a new double because I wanted a double pump to help increase my milk supply whilst also significantly reducing the amount of time I sat on the pump in each session.
This pump has been a nightmare – I bought a medela swing double pump from baby bunting and the suction get stuffing up. Then the motor started randomly turning off. I dealt with it like that for a month until my supply dramatically dropped! I took it back to baby bunting and they gave me a new motor. Went home and it was worse!! So I called baby bunting and they were nothing… Read more
but rude told me it's probably me thats doing something wrong and told me to call medela. I called medela and I had great customer service the lady was really nice and sent out new connectors. I went back to baby bunting and bought bigger breast shields and new tubing so everything was brand new! I tried it out and yep... Suction still wasn't working... I called medela again and the lady said all I can do is send it to them for them to look at it and they can send me a manual pump for the mean time. I ended up taking everything back to baby bunting after spending $400 on the pump and an extra $60 for parts and got an exchange to get a different brand pump.. That is now working perfectly. Baby bunting workers told me I was the fifth person to bring back the medela swing!

Nightmare, turn dream pump – Started off terrible but soon realised it was user error not device error haha... loved it in the end. I personally used it as a single pump majority of the time with a hakaa on my other breast. That way I had a hand free for other things eg: massaging pump breast, eating, drinking. That's what worked best for me so probably could have just purchased the single pump and saved a few $$. Show details · 3
Great – Very good pump. I’ve used it with both my children. Currently using for my second but trying to decrease use and let nature do its course with supplies. Love it! Very satisfied. Thanks for the assistance of the Medela team: you were amazing: efficient, quick, professional and kind Show reply
Going 10 months strong with this great pump – 10months pumping ranging from 4-2 times daily from day one - taking from 30-15 mins each side. Travels well to work with me, I haven’t tried it with battery’s only. Easy cleaning. Recommend having spare membrane. Easy use and good suction. Show details

Worst product and customer service – I used medela pump and my supply decreased just because pump worked few months only . It’s not worth to spend $$$ and use for 1-2 months . I contacted babybunting and medela customer service both but no one helped and just advised to flush out which I did several times but suction didn’t improved at all. Show details

Can't make sense of the raving reviews – I ordered this pump considering all the positive reviews and the reputation of the brand Medela itself. What a disappointment it has been! First, it is super loud and almost impossible to use when the baby is sleeping. Second, the suction is a joke - it takes me about 40 minutes to get a barely decent amount of milk, whereas with the other pump I… Read more
have been using I manage to express double the amount in half the time. It is quite uncomofrtable on the breast too. Last but not least, it looks and feels very cheap, very basic. And let's not forget the ridiculous price - it is one of the most expensive electric breast pumps on the market and so not worth the money! Definitely wouldn't recommend.
Okay for on the go – It's okay for on the go, but that's it and if you're in the same situation as me, you have to hold them to your breasts no mattee what gimmic exists. I don't find it great for use unless my breasts are quite full/ becoming engorged. It would take an easy 40 minutes to drain one breast. I once thought that was fine, since I've bought a new pump for… Read more
just a bit more I have learnt its possible in 15 minutes and under, a big difference. This is due to the pump force not being as great. The cleaning of it I found as average as any, a bit more figuring out than other pumps but relatively simple after a couple of goes. Due to my irregular supply, sometimes I need to pump multiple times a day, other days I can go days without getting a single drop in it. The only real pro is the size of it being nice and easy to carry around. Unfortunately the cost didnt justify it for me in the end.

Ok for an occasional pumper only – Good size pump, easily attaches to waistband and batteries allow for extra pumping convenience. I bought this pump due to brand reputation and wanting a powerless pump option. I ended up having to pump a lot more than I'd hope as my daughter has issues breastfeeding. I ended up buying a spectra and I was able to pump three times as much volume of milk in a third of the time. Cannot recommend the spectra enough. Show details
Amazing! So helpful for bringing and maintaining my milk supply. I don’t know what I would have done without it! – So helpful at collecting and maintaining my milk supply! I don’t know what I would have done without it! The pump is so easy to use coupled with the bra, bottles it makes pumping and feeding so much easier! Show details · 1

mendela breat pump swing – I only used for 6 months had it for 2 years and 3 months and the warranty was 2 years but they would not replace it after the motor had gone they should be ashamed to sell such a product that does not last

Happy with purchase! – Purchase single pump back in 2019! Haven’t had any issue it a pretty amazing pump love that if portable and you can take it on the go with you! I do wish the overall machine was smaller. Show details · 1
Milk keeps going into tube – I don’t know how many times I’ve had to clean out pipe because milk goes into it. So frustrating, so difficult to clean and so over it. After four months of being annoyed I have upgraded to Spectra and it’s amazing. Show details

It worked just fine – I bought the maxi double pump, however if I used both at the same time it dramatically made a difference if the suction ability and therefore milk production. I resorted to using just the one at a time which made for a long process, about an hour to pump both sides. Show details
Exactly what I need! – Easy to use, comfortable and easy to take anywhere. Was able to take to work and use and able to pump lots of milk. Wouldn't support way to clean. Would highly recommend!!! Show details · 1

Easy to use, comfortable, reliable – This product was the best during my two pregnancies. Well designed for easy use. Good quality materials. Quiet. Great to use on the go as it is portable (when ran on batteries). Love this product. Show details · 1
great little pump – Struggled to get good amount of expressed milk intially and had some discomfort associated with pumping, but then I realised I needed to use a smalled flange.. and after that it was all smooth sailing! Love that I could put batteries in and it was pretty handy to take with me to baby-free events. Luckily I wasnt a regular pumper though. It took a while, and in hindsight might've been better to purchase one with a double pump. Show details
Best on the market – Best one there is, I’ve had 6 kids and I dont mind spending extra on this breast pump if it means I won’t get mastitis, I breast fed twins for 6 months because of medical reasons they couldent have formula and I wouldn’t have been able to do it with out my Medela pump, I failed at breast feeding with my 2 kids prior to the twins because I purchased cheap breast pumps Show details · 1
Terrible! Noisy and low suction – I am disappointed at how bad this pump is. The suction isn't that powerful and i have tried cleaning it as per medela youtube videos. All in vain. It is very noisy and has such a bad suction. Also the pump parts are so bad that i almost replaced all of them so far in expectation to have it working properly, I feel cheated! for $265 and i want to return it but the pharmacy says medela should take it back and Medela says the retailer should take it back.

Easy to use – I bought this one when my son was born. I feel that it is very reliable machine cause it took out all of my milk. I recommend this product for someone who find that it is hard for breastfeeding. Show details · 1
Small , compact yet powerful – I bought medella swing essential pack from baby bunting 4 months ago. So far it’s been great , love the fact that it’s portable( use 4AAA batteries) while travelling and connectable to power plug when at home or indoors. I personally did not choose double swing as I am not a great multitasker and can save money on single swing. Two phase detection… Read more · 1
mode is great too to ensure better pumping. Small yet compact and powerful enough ! It kept my sanity when newborn had latching issues . I had recommended this breast pump to my friend and she finds it great too!
Very helpful and easy to use. Tough product too! – One of the things i noticed when using this pump is its durability. eventhough i would boil and clean it often, the pump and its parts/accessories are still in very good condition and does not lose its effectivity Show details · 1
So reliable! – I bought the Medela swing when my son was only a few days old and he was having difficulty latching. Unfortunately we were never successful with breastfeeding but I was committed to providing him with breastmilk. am currently using the pump 5 times in a 24 hour period for about 20min a session and when my son was younger and waking in the night it was up to 8 times. At six months I am successfully producing about 700ml per day and in the early days with expressing during the night it was around 1litre, so I can confidently say that the pump is effective! I am so happy with the reliability and durability of this pump. It’s comfortable and with the pumping bra and use of batteries I can easily multitask and move around the house or express on big days out. I cannot speak more highly of this product!
Best brand! – Works so well, never fail to get a decent amount of milk expressed. Not to big or hard to cart around. Easy to use and understandable. I used it once or twice at the moment until I return to work. Show details
Love this – My breastfeeding journey started awful my milk supply was dismal. Why i would recommend this pump is the effectiveness of pumping milk. It is a convedient pump to use and mantain. Compared to others I have used the noise isnt too loud. It was comfortable to use, and saved my sanity. This is a great pump. Show details · 1
3 babies, 7 years and still going strong – I bought this breast pump octobre 2012 when my 1st baby was 3 months old and I was stranded at home unable to go out without her, she only had breastmilk. Disappointed – For such a well advertised brand I am disappointed at how average this pump is. The suction isn't that powerful and it's very noisy. I'm glad I brought this second hand because id be devasted spending the money on it brand new. If I'd known earlier I was going to pump i would had have brought a Spectra pump! Show details
