The worst insurer we've ever used we pay pay pay for trauma cover it's gotten so expensive and then they always add 5% to renewals which increases it even more, it's a joke after paying for trauma cover for 20yrs there's nothing paid back when you cancel it due to exorbitant costs, id move companies if we weren't over 50 but bye bye trauma, id… Read more

I rang to cancel two life insurances. After I gave all details I was told that somebody will call me back. I didn't hear back within 24 hrs and rang again. First call it rang and than somebody hang up on me. Second call somebody answered with saying hey and when I asked if this is Medibank Private the women said I think so. When I told her that I… Read more

like to follow up in regards of my phone call yesterday she hang up on me. Third call I was told they will ring me back within 24 to 48 hrs, which will be in 3 days, because they don't work over the weekend. I find this very unprofessional and I don't see a reason why the cancellation can not be processed once I have given all my details to the 1st person. What is the purpose that they are taking phone calls until 8pm and can't assist you anyway and call you back during g the day when the customer.er is at work or busy somewhere else.

Horrendous – Horrendous – I had an incident I needed to claim on and honestly received a return call today from the rudest man. Having gone through a traumatic experience and having him ask me questions about my life expectancy and trying to make me say what he wanted I felt attacked. I broke down crying and told him I wasn’t a doctor and that was their job if… Read more

they wanted more information. I paid my policy for coverage if they wanted to decline it then then have to find a reason why. I am beyond upset and disgusted. Just like all insurers I know this will end up in court like the other policies I have had to fight to get paid out. Medibank will say we will send this to our complaints team to help you manage, they will but their complaints team is biased as they don’t want to lose their jobs. Let’s be honest this is the most corrupt system.

Update #1 - I put through a formal complaint on the day and to date have not received any contact. Cant say I'm surprised.

Update # 2: Update: I received a reply on 18 Feb stating the below "Your complaint has now been escalated to the highest level in our Internal Disputes Resolution process. We will investigate the matters you have raised in your complaint and will respond to you once a full assessment has been made. While we will endeavour to respond to your complaint promptly, we will provide a final response no later than 30 days after original receipt of your complaint." Yep you read that right up to 30 days. I appreciate that they have policies and procedures to manage complaints but I question how many are they getting for this to be their acceptable and standardised response.

Update # 3: Dearest Callum, I must insist that you peruse your inbox with the utmost expediency, for I have already graced it with my impeccably swift response and the requisite attachment. While I admire your valiant—albeit futile—attempt to rapaciously undermine my assertion, I must regretfully inform you that I shall emerge triumphant in this deliciously exasperating quarrel you have so brazenly ignited. Moreover, your conspicuous omission of any denial regarding your team’s conduct speaks volumes. Given this glaring silence and the undeniable inference that grievances must be running rampant within your domain, I shall proceed under the well-founded assumption that my argument stands unchallenged. The conspicuous dearth of customer service and care, it appears, is not merely a happenstance but an art form to which your establishment is regrettably devoted. With the highest degree of passive-aggressive cordiality.

Update # 4 - (The Final Update) Ah, Medibank, the gift that keeps on disappointing. You will, of course, not see my previous response to dear Callum, as Medibank has kindly erased it from existence—presumably because the truth was a bit too spicy for their liking. Apparently, customer feedback is welcome… as long as it’s the kind that makes them look like guardian angels rather than, well, what they actually are. I can only assume my previous comment didn’t align with Medibank’s carefully curated image of “we totally care about our customers (but not really),” and thus, it was swiftly banished to the abyss of inconvenient truths. How thoughtful! But fear not! Rather than risk further distressing this fine, upstanding institution—whose apparent business model is built on making people’s lives harder than they ever need to be—I shall now gracefully cease my review. Wouldn’t want to upset the folks who have already mastered the art of upsetting their own customers. Five stars for consistency, Medibank. Zero for humanity.

Super smooth and easy flow to get life insurance – I have used many online purchase applications for insurance, and Medibank's life insurance online application has one of the best customer experiences. I can get playing around with different options and get the premium calculated in real-time. I also received very friendly emails to remind me of my quote progress. Love the SMS 2FA as well. Trauma/Life Insurance [Content Removed] - Worst Insurance Provider Ever, will do absolutely everything to avoid paying out – Suffered a stroke a couple of months ago and submitted a claim as part of Trauma Insurance included in my policy. It has been an ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE to work through with Medibank. Would not recommend at all for life insurance/trauma cover and if you are currently a member, I would encourage you to leave immeadiately. Firstly, Medibank will do… Read more

absolutely everything in its power, to avoid paying out a legitimate Trauma Insurance claim. If you look at its PDS and even its website, it misleads customers as to definitions and exclusions around a Stroke. Even if you satisfy the definitions, Medibank (through Swiss Re) will spend time and effort to undertake further unnecessary investigations, so that it avoids having to pay out or accept your claim. If they realise that their PDS is at fault, they will use the excuse that they are bound by the industry Life Insurance Code of Practice. Forget providing all the necessary and requested documents from doctors, hospitals or experts - Medibank/Swiss Re will do it and assess it their own way - they supposedly know more than everyone else.

Secondly, Medibank drag on the claims process for months. Even if you provide all requested documents to begin with, they will make the process excruciatingly painful and drag it for months on end - with no regular communications in place. Imagine being incapacitated from a serious health issue or event - the process or timeframe deliberately put in place by Medibank is so that you eventually give up in submitting or managing a claim. Imagine if your loved ones had to claim on your life insurance in your death - I feel Medibank would make it impossible to get any traction or receive a payout as per the policy.

Now if you make a complaint with Medibank, they will have their complaints arm Greenstone manage this process. Believe me when I say they are absolutely useless. Firstly, it will take them up to 30 days to get back to you or to come up with a response. And when they do respond, they will absolutely use every single avenue to justify not having to pay out.

Medibank is great when it comes to enticing you to sign up, and in ensuring that you always pay your premiums. But when it comes to Medibank fulfilling its obligations as per your policy, it will do absolutely nothing or create a process that makes you eventually give up or lead you nowhere.

It reminds me of what people usually worry about when it comes to life insurers - they'll always find a way in the end to never ever have to pay you out come claim time. Absolutely disgusted by their behavior and I would not recommend at all to friends and family.

Pushy unhelpful sales people – - Sales person called me and provided very basic information, providing a price with no PDS is unprofessional - Imagine buying a car over the phone having never seen it and the sales person says "are you over 18, do you have a license, it has 4 wheels and goes fast, its $500 month, but i can give you 10% off" and expecting i want it is ridiculous… Read more

- Insurance is a complex product and most consumers do not understand what they are buying - They were unable to provide detailed nor satisfactory answers to their product - They repeatedly read a script indicating they don't understand the products, the market, or my concerns - It seemed like they were only interested in closing a sale - Would recommend seeking the advice of an insurance broker instead of useless retail staff who have only be trained to read a brochure, they can provide a comparison and explain the features of each product, then you can select the right policy for your needs - For comparison, their policy is more expensive for the same coverage i have, they market 5% annual indexation to justify huge price increases that are not disclosed up front, and then argue you can opt-out, it just doesn't look like good value over the life of the product.

A group of liars and sales people – They lied to me that I need to submit my credit card detail to see the PDS. I was informed that I have 30 days to decide. consumer who wants to cancel a policy - your verbal communication is worthless and in fact is unnecessary - the cancellation has to be in writing.

Read the Product Disclosure Statement on the Medibank Life Website. Page 8 tells you how to cancel. Please be aware that the 'sales' team add a requirement that the letter also include your full name, date of birth, be signed and dated. 30 days notice is required.

It is prudent to not only post the letter, but email it. Then there is no question about whether or not it was sent.

The email address is (apparently) life_enquiries@medibank.com.au. This email address was (finally) given by the obstructive salesman.

Not even one star -- fraudulent activities are rampant even in – I have never heard of Medibank Life insurance policy until today. low can they go? On querying, they offered that I must have signed up on line..That refuted, they were on defence mode. Strange policy though...my card was debited for 2 years, I never sighted a policy and apparently, I didn't even nominated a beneficiary and the policy was purchased on a Sunday!

Try cancelling it...They needed it in writing with a signature and will need at least a week for the department to response... What business practice? This organisation cannot be trusted!

I wouldn't even give it one star – They are friendly and helpful when taking your money but rude and incredibly obstructive when trying to cancel your policy. He never said I had to give anything written to cancel.… Read more

I called up a month later after they had kept taking money out of my account. The next representative was really rude and said I had to write a letter. He never said I had to sign it. So I wrote the letter and a complaint letter to the "dispute resolution manager" requesting the money be refunded. They did nothing to "resolve a dispute", they only informed me that I had to write another letter with a signature. They said they had emailed me a couple of days prior, I check my email several times a day and there was nothing in the junk box either. It seems like they conveniently "forget" to tell you details on how to cancel the policy and don't care about you once you are not paying.

Obstructive and unsatisfactory cancellation procedure – I have had significant difficulty in cancelling my Life Insurance Policy with Medibank Private that I have held for 5 or 6 years. three missed calls to my mobile over that time from an unknown number - calls were missed as the call only lasted 10 to 15 seconds and I wasn't able to answer in time. No voicemail message was left. I have attempted to cancel twice in the past and was talked out of the cancellation by a very persuasive cancellation team member - a decision I regret. I have decided to be firm this time and not be persuaded to continue, but am not looking forward to the pending discussion. I do not appreciate such an obstructive cancellation process. I wonder if the cancellation team are on a performance bonus scheme?
