Miele S 4582 CleanAir

Powerful, portable, and quiet – We were considering either a Dyson, or a Miele, and in the end we went with the Miele for a few reasons. It's smaller and easier to move around than the larger Dysons, and it's also not very loud. Despite requiring disposable bags, it doesn't loose much suction even when they're full, and we've never bothered replacing the fancy filters. Still works great. They're not exactly cheap, but we only seem to go through a box or two a year at the most.
The other thing was that the Dyson is made entirely of plastics, while the Miele came with a comfortable and strong stainless steel wand with a long reach when fully extended which is sure to outlive the rest of the machine.
Even though it's only 1,000 watts, it still has enough power to lift the carpet up off the floor. Only drawback is that once it sucks something up, it's gone forever, so keep it away from lego and earrings :)
Great quality – We just received our new Miele S4582 today, real bargain at $299 with Hepa Filtration and proven German technology. Suction is so much stronger than our 10 year old Hoover, it's more quiet and feels really well put together. We have a 2 storey place so not being as heavy is a bonus too. Strong suction, quiet operation, solid feel about it. No build in space for accessories
