attempted to brush my teeth in a manner which would not disturb my sleeping household or my nearby neighbours. I switched it on. Unlike the quiet whirring of the Colgate Sonic, the sound of the Oral-B Crossaction Power was akin to a lawn mower being revved in the street or a chainsaw being held near your face. As I saw my neighbours lights come on, I thought that the toothbrush might be quieter once it was contained by my mouth. I was wrong. If anything, the noise of the banshee-like toothbrush was only amplified by my mouth cavity like some sort of amphitheatre. The other thing I noticed is that the toothbrush seemed to vibrate off any moisture, leading to less suds being present as you brush. Afterwards, I noticed an occasional breakfast chia seed still lodged between some of my teeth, however I was too scared to continue as the sheer volume of the toothbrush broke my spirit. I have since bought the old faithful Colgate Sonic which purrs quietly yet efficiently.

I love this toothbrush! – Works well with the rotating and straight heads. Both my husband and I have this brush and we're both happy with the results. I have purchased extra heads so I don't have to throw it out when the heads worn out and are no longer made.

Oral-B CrossAction Cut my tongue! – I was sufficiently happy with this toothbrush until it cut my tongue! I stopped using it for a couple of months and then resumed using it while on holiday, hoping that perhaps the cut was a once off occurance. Unfortunately, a few weeks later the same think happened on a different part of my tongue. I see it has been discontinued thanks goodness as mine will be going in the bin

5 years now, still going strong – I bought mine over 5 years ago, not exactly sure how long and the motor is still going strong. The colgate ActiBrush lasted about 12 months or so before the motor died. As this brush accepts normal AA sized batteries, this brush lasts longer than the Oral B Vitality. Head is a little large, needs to get used to manoeuvring the head around the back teeth, in the ridges in the molars etc to get the most of the brush.

Other reviewers had noted the heads are expensive compared with other electric brushes. In my experience, this isn't so. Other reviewers also mentioned that the brush consumes a lot of single use AA batteries. This brush accepts AA NiMH and NiCad rechargable batteries. As such these criticisms are a fault of the user, not the brush. The advantage of using rechargables is not only to save on wasteful single use batteries, but also you don't need to wait for the charge to drop. Once the speed of the brush drops a little, a quick top up will get the brush running a full speed.

The only other point I'll like to make is that just like manual brushes and other electric brushes, the cleaning isn't 100%. There are some things this brush does better than manual, and some things manual does better than this electric brush. I find I get the best clean if I have this brush and a manual brush. I use this brush 80% of the time and the manual brush 20% of the time.

I agree with the weight and the round bottom. It makes it hard to store and when I store it in a plastic tumbler, it falls over quite often.

Too noisy to use – This toothbrush works quite well but is very noisy. I don't know what they did to make it so noisy but I have stopped using it as it can be quite overpowering at night when you are winding down for sleep.

Good for Travelling, but Noisy – I'm a traveller and wanted an electric toothbrush, but not the rechargeable type that needs to be plugged in. The OralB Cross Action was a good compromise, being battery operated. The replacement brush heads are quite expensive and not good value, but still cheaper than purchasing a new toothbrush. I did find the supplied tool that removes the old head a poor design; the explanatory pictures on the packet need a magnifying glass to see; and opening the packet to retrieve the new heads meant destroying the instructions. I would have liked to buy just one replacement brush but of course the packet contains 2. And being 2, I had to sticky tape the instructions back together again for next time.

Conclusion : it's still better than a normal, manual toothbrush.

toothbrush that has more than just a spinning disc, so I was quite happy to see the added "up and down" motion pad underneath the disc. One AA battery lasts about a month and I've been able to push one brush head as far as one year worth of use before having to give up on it.

One big disadvantage is that there is no stand and you can't make it stand up, causing the brush head to usually be resting against something. The brush speed is also very inconstant. Starts off almost too fast when you put in a new battery, sits on a comfortable speed for 1-2 weeks then starts to get progressively more sluggish. Some people may find this pretty annoying.

+ Nice slim design, especially for a battery powered electric toothbrush

+ Spins and vibrates (has two separately moving brush parts)

+ Replacement heads are relatively easy to source and inexpensive (I gave up on my Spinbrush because of this issue)

- Can get pretty grubby over time

- Only goes as fast as the charge left in the battery! Gradually gets slower and slower with each brushing...

- Has to be laid flat, there`s no stand!

Good value – Does an excellent job, very happy with the results, now if I can figure out how to get the worn head off...otherwise I'll bin it and buy a new one.

every couple of month and I give it a fresh battery every 4 month. It is the only one that I tried doesn't feel bulky in your mouth, nothing square there it's all rounded and it is easy to use. It only require a single regular AA batterie, and they can last! but you may wish to keep the brush to it's optimum use so don't wait to change it. The head have a couple of blue stripes that wear and indicate when it is time to change it. I don't want to change the brush, so as soon as I find recharge I do a little stock. I bought a second one just in case it gives away but it is still going after almost 6 years of daily use. Woolies still carry them so ... I'll keep using it. It doesn't take half my bathroom to store it, I can put it in my regular toothbrush glass! Maybe a little difficult to clean properly the unit when you change the heads.

Excellent Choice! – The Oral-B CrossAction brush is quite cheap compared to many brands which is an advantage in its own. The brush comes in funky colors and has a small charger which is good for storage and isn't too messy! The brush head itself is great at cleaning the teeth and the vibration and spin is great. A great buy. Colour. Efficiency. The only annoying thing is having to buy replacement brush heads, but this is the same with all electric brushes.

this one out rather than replacing the head. With a power brush you can't stand it up in a spare water glass because all the drips will quickly make it gross, and you don't want to keep a toothbrush in a case everyday or all of it will get gross, so with the rounded bottom it was a pain. It'd like this toothbrush a lot if it had a flat base so I could just stand it up on my sink counter. Not being able to do that finally bugged me so much that I tossed it and got a more expensive similar model from Sonicare. Not better than a manual toothbrush – This brush at full power lasts a week with good batteries. If you buy cheap batteries or brush more than 3 times a day it won't even last that long. grubby or loose after a short time and I don't want my toothbrush to look anything other than perfectly clean. I didn't keep this for long, apart from going through too many batteries and fading fast once on the way out (like not even lasting long enough to get a last clean in before going to the shops for more batteries) I upgraded to a rechargeable electric Oral B toothbrush.

Too battery hungry, not a precision clean, big head.

rechargeable AA batteries charged on a regular charger. Brush heads are slightly more expensive than regular toothbrushes but cheaper than the brush heads for the more expensive oral B brushes. Not the strongest of electric toothbrushes. I've previously used an oral B sonic toothbrush and that has a real powerful clean. Brush heads don't last long. I've had several where the round rotating bit becomes loose after a few weeks of use and then stops spinning as soon as it is pressed on something. Only fix is to buy and attach a new head.

The mechanism is multi-directional and it all seems to work well. Vertatile head and no much more cost than a standard toothbrush. HIGHLY recommended. For an eco-sensitive, tooth-sensitive brush this hits about all the right spots. It does lack an in-mouth TV camera, though..

not rotate and just vibrates. It is possibly this that fails the cleaning. After the recommended 2 minutes of brushing the teeth surface in the mouth still feels rough perhaps brushing action is too gentle. Brushing with a manual brush can give me a better result. I will still use them for travel but once the heads are worn then will not buy replacement heads and probably bin the units.

I have had one basic rechargeable unit which lasted for years and only replaced it when the battery no longer retain charge. Now using another no frill model, the Vitality, gives a decent clean but maybe a little too hard for my teeth. So looking at getting one in the Triumph range. Very portable for travel. Doesn't give a good clean feeling. Manual brushing can do a better job.

Excellent – The feeling of cleaned teeth using an electric toothbrush is far superior than a normal old fashioned toothbrush. I find this brush an excellent option from the vast range of electric toothbrushes on the market. replacement heads in all supermarkets which is great. Good brushing action. Runs on a AA battery. Replaceable heads Replaceable heads are a little pricey but i willingly pay this to be able to get them as the electric brush that this replaced was useless when i couldn't find the replacement head in the shops so at least i can easily replace these ones.

not user-replaceable so after a year or two, the products are cactus and not worth fixing. The replacement heads are a tad expensive, but reasonable okay priced if purchased from Chemist Warehouse.
