Panasonic DVD-LS83 / 86

Good – I bought this for my 8 year old son as we often have 4 hour trips to the city. It is a lovely little unit, easy to use and has many features. However, after 10 months, when going to change a dvd, the spring just under the lid flew off. This meant the lid was loose and you needed to tilt the unit to open the lid. As it was still under warranty, I took it to an authorised repair centre and was aghast to find out that I had to pay for the parts $5 spring and worse - $80 for the lid which is 125x112mm slightly moulded plastic. When I complained to Panasonic, I was told it was physical damage and not covered under warranty. She could not explain how a bit of plastic cost $80. Was not impressed and I will definitely look at other brands before I buy Panasonic again - if ever! Big 8.5" screen, good quality picture and sound, lightweight, plays all region dvds. Battery only lasts about 3 hours, warranty problems.
