Purchased around 2011, still works 15 years later in 2026 with no hiccups, which is a quality rare as gold in the modern age. No dumb-smart features, no picture quality issues (Provided you're fine with 1080p/60hz, which I am), and isn't connected to the internet and can't do stupid things as a result. It's even durable, as I've accidentally spit-take'd on it before and it's been fine. Has 3 HDMI ports.
WHAT IS TIME? – This tv was probably a touch expensive for it's time and was still trying to find it's feet post the Plasma gangster scene of tv's ( my VT60 sends it's regards). It takes on a few legacy features and apps for that time but ...what is time after all but a flat circle? 9? years on ...this tv is annoying... annoying me ...for not having to replace… Read more · 1
it. It has a hint of dithering and there's nothing eye popping in the adjustments but they help adjust the light and tone of the colors just enough to enjoy this TV if you're watching things in 1080p. Sports and action is alright in the 42 inch panel with 100hz refresh and just generally the sound kinda keeps up with the action and has just enough depth for a small room. I don't really know what else to say that's smart and intelligent... it's the kind of tv that you expect from panasonic... very good.. ...some stuff weird - ( just typcial panasonic japanese design engineer things - like when you view guide it's in it's own screen - NOT onscreen overlay) some stuff genius ( i forget what but there's... stuff lol) ... just came here to give it a 5 star ... but 4 for todays picture standards only because our expectations are so high from picture processing. It keeps up well... you won't kick out of the house that's for sure. Just plug in a "smart" application box like amazon firestick or fetch or telstra tv and this is the kind of tv you keep for life in your spare room until you give it to a free tv repairs/ electronics recyclers (please don't take it to the council trash pile). The TV design and appearance is so nice and timeless. You have to own one to appreciate its classic but timeless design. It's an honor to own this tv and i'll never sell it (good luck finding old Panasonic LCD in general) . Sorry also wanted to say i'm sad Pana won't sell tv's in OZ anymore :(
Good for its time – Purchased in 2011. Still works today in 2020. 1080p picture quality is still great. Never had an issue with the TV. Online smart features are lacking, but some of the popular apps today, didn't exist back then.
Not a very SMART TV – Was good when purchased (was expensive so should be). Now in 2019 only 1 app works (sbs, but drops out constantly). I have called Panasonic about this a few years ago and their attitude was that I should be happy that any apps work at all. Not a very SMART TV if you ask me. Show details
Excellent picture quality, IPS, superior contrast, Full HD/SD integrated tuner, Network capable – I decided to get a 'bigger telly' after my existing LCD TV (which still works and which I have already reviewed - the Panasonic Viera LCD model TX-37LXD80A and offers S-Video inputs and 2 component video inputs as well as HDMI and PC) was starting to display weaker contrast - since it is now 3 years old - to be expected. (TH-L42E30A) is LED backlit, and offers some different features including:
Motion Picture Pro - (designed to smooth motion and minimise jitter - such as a football game or fast motion movie scenes);
Film Cadence Pro - (which is intended to sharpen images and improve definition vertically);
Vivid Colour - (to make colours appear more vibrant and dimensional);
Resolution Enhancer - (increases definition and improves contrast, similar to Picture AI on old CRT Quintrix models)
One of the functions in the Setup menu is Backlight control - adjusts the luminance level of the backlight according to viewing conditions ... handy, as this helps make pictures brighter with lower contrast requirement.
All the usual sound and picture menus, EPG, aspect ratio selection, XGA PC input, 4 HDMI inputs, SD Card (for external media) & USB input. Progressive Scan/NTSC capable. A host of other features.
I was pleasantly surprised at the result after easy auto setup - a truly natural picture, with skin tones smartly balanced (not over saturated and not flat as with older model TVs), and with the extra features, it certainly is better than the previous models. It only has one component video input and no S-Video inputs, but with the presence of 4 HDMI inputs you can overlook this limitation. Definitely worth the money, but, as with all electrical appliances, consider an extended customer care warranty with Panasonic to cover yourself for an extra 3 years on top of the initial 12 months manufacturer's warranty. I have always trusted Panasonic and may continue to do so. Full HD 1920x1080p, excellent crisp, clear pictures, true contrast. No S-Video input and only 1 component video input (AV1), but the 4 HDMI inputs make up for this.
Bought at a good price inc 4 year warranty – The unit is well made, picture is clear and crisp I did a lot of homework first, was originally to purchase from the internet, didn't mention this to HN. They did a good price that no one could beat. Has all the controls and functions led dimmer etc,the added feature of being able to watch your digital photos or slides is exceptional The added… Read more
pvr seems a watste of time, When in recording mode the whole tv hijacks the progamme being recorded, and when connected to a pocket hard drive cannot be read or be used on a normal pc. I think its just there in an emergency to record a news event or small doco, its about as useful as putting a winch on a brandnew sedan.
