steam the food anymore. I contacted Phillips and they just said to pay my own postage and sent it back. There wasn’t much of customer service on their part as I had to call a few times to get someone to speak to. What is upsetting is that I will have no steamer for a long time as sending it back and waiting for them to test it could take time. When I asked for a better solution they went on to tell me that there are other ways to cook food for my baby foo. I found this extremely rude. The product also leaves a mouldy residue inside the steamer compartment which is extremely difficult to clean. Don’t buy this product as you will be wasting your money.

An absolute life saver for transitioning to solids – I LOVE LOVE LOVE my steamer-blender. It's hands down my absolute favourite baby-related purchase and the one thing I could not do without! of a shop assistant at Baby Bunting (she probably sensed my desperation!) and it honestly saved my sanity. It is SO easy to use - just cut up whatever you want to steam into small (1 - 2 cm) pieces and put it in the jug; fill up the steamer/blender with as much water as you need (amount of water = steaming time); put the jug into the 'steam' position and turn it on; when done, flip the jug over into the 'blend' position and blend it all up! You can do fruit, vegetables and meat. Hardly any dishes to do. It's also very compact and doesn't take up much bench space.

A few tips:

* take a copy of the steaming times from the manual and stick it on your fridge - this tells you how much water to use, and I referred to mine ALL the time!

* you HAVE to keep it really clean. Follow the instructions in the book and clean it regularly, otherwise you will get food stains and other build up. To descale (just like you would with an electric steam steriliser for bottles) you can use a solution of vinegar + water, or citric acid + water (citric acid can be found in the baking aisle of the supermarket, near the baking power). It's easy to clean, you just need to do it regularly.

* I didn't like to steam meat on its own; I'd do meat and vegetables together. Mix everything up in a bowl first - the uncooked meat (especially chicken) tends to clump together in the steamer and won't cook properly if you don't break it up.

* the blade is VERY sharp - be careful when washing, and make sure you put it somewhere safe to dry (where you're not going to cut yourself accidentally)

* forgoe the expensive baby food storage containers and just use ice cube trays! When full, the steamer/blender makes A LOT of puree. Pour the puree into ice cube trays, freeze and when ready, pop the cubes into tupperware containers or snap lock bags. So easy and perfect puree portion control!

Even though my little one has moved beyond the puree stage, I still use it to do apples and even to make smoothies. It may not be an 'essential', but it's a huge time & water saver, and makes it SO easy to make big or small batches of puree of any kind. Definitely took the stress out of transitioning to solids! I'd buy this again in a heartbeat!

comments about the small capacity but to me that's not a problem. One batch is enough for 6-7 meals for my 6 month old. Later on as she eats more, I'll just cook a few batches and freeze if I need to. But I like the idea of being able to cook fresh food for my daughter while I'm doing the family dinner. So while I'm preparing dinner I can throw some vegies in steamer. I think that even when my daughter has outgrown purees, I will still use the steamer for her vegies and to make fruit purees and smoothies. Foods like carrots and apples can't be eaten until kids are much older, so the steamer should come in handy for many years to come. Its easy to clean, and saves a lot of mess in the kitchen. I am not a fan of buying electrical gadgets for the kitchen, but I really recommend this one and can say that its one gadget I will get lots and lots of use out of it. Quick and easy to use. Saves time and mess in the kitchen. Small batches are good for making fresh food every day. More recipes in the recipe book would be great.

criteria for choosing this product, it has an inbuilt strainer so no need to have or wash extra utensils.

This has come in super handy not just blending but steamed too – This blender has been fantastic and works like magic. As we have two youngsters that need mashed food the steam function has really assisted making sure the food is also warm and super yummy. Convenient but leaks water when steaming and hard to clean – Easy to use and great for steaming small batches of veggies and meats. However the opening where you pour water in doesn't close tightly so steam escapes, so I have to put something heavy over it to stop the steam from escaping. It's also hard to clean the edges inside the lid especially after steaming meat. It's more compact than the other steamer/blenders out there so it's easy to pack away and doesn't take up much bench space.  Show details

Steamer is ok but blending bad – Since buying this it doesn't blend food down very well always leaving bits in the blends food. Amazing for time poor parents to provide nutritious meals for babies – Great product got loads of use but once buns moved to more meal based with servers ingredients I started using my thermomix more but was a life saver when I had babies starting solids. Fault in product allows mould to grow in jug – I do not recommnend this product. There is a small hole at the bottom of the jug that allows food and water to enter an area that cannot be cleaned and mould to grow. Philips Advent customer service state this ius still safe to use as the mould does not directly touch the food but I dont think it is safe to wash mouldy appliances in the kitchen or to allow mould to grow on any kitchen appliance.  Show details

The blades are sharp – It does it work and is quite reliable. However when my mother in law washed it she had her fingers cut by the blades. I would hope the design of the blades are safer for cleaning. In general the function is good, but if there is a timer for the steaming function or blending function it could be better. Amazing appliance – I love this appliance because it doesn't just help me make food for the bub but it also help me in making soups, pastas etc. One thing I am not happy about is the noise that this blender makes everytime i use it. Life saver little machine – I bought this little magical machine only recently. It is amazing, very easy to prepare healthy meal for my baby. I wish I had it with my first 2 children would’ve saved myself a lot of money and effort in preparing. Simple to use – It is a blender that does does everything a blender needs. Although it may look slightly ugly at first. But what gets the jobs done is what matter. Easy to use and save my time – It’s easy to use and can save my time. If you look after your baby by yourself, it’s worth to have it. But the lid of it is hard to clean up. So the lid will look very dirty after a few times use which I think is a design defect of this product.  Show details ·  1

Really helpful product – I found the steamer/blender fast, easy to use and I could make a months worth of purees in a couple of hours. It pureed everything really well. Do not waste your money! – This product is terrible. Hard to lock the lid in place. Steam times take a lot longer than the recipe book and to refill the container at the back you burn yourself with the steam and hot water that spits out. It also left chunks of carrot. Contacted Philips to say I thought it was faulty given the noise and not puréeing food- the lady was extremely rude and said that it sounded like nothing was wrong with it. Then suggested I send it back and be without blender for at least a week minimum, which was impossible given my baby had started solids.

Wouldn’t bother with this product- cook your food on the stovetop and get a good stick mixer to purée you baby food.

not being attached properly. Do not buy this product, especially with this disgusting aftercare. You can’t sell a terrible product and then blame it on the poor design of the product. Contemplating taking it up with consumer affairs. I don't think it’s meant to be sold in Aus, as all the writing for the warranty/menus weren’t in English. Waste of $150!!

Noisy and wakes up everyone – I also found this blender so noisy that I have to find time to use it when the baby is awake. They could have done something better with the motor for the price. Painful product, just so painful – First, the instructions are next to no help. When you are sleep deprived clear instructions are an absolute neccessity. suggestion for apple to steam for 5 mins, nope, not even kind of cooked. Had some carrot on the steamer for 20 minutes, it beeps, I go check it and there is no heat in the jug, veggies are cold as anything but there's a nice pool of water on the bench now. Cleaning the product is painful, literally, cut my finger twice now on the plastic bit in the middle of the jug and its so awkward getting a sponge in that jug and trying to work around the plastic bit in the middle. The inside of the blade gets food in it as well, just a nuisance. I have never left a review for anything in my life but this product has been so supremely awful I had to say something! Such a waste of my precious money, I am so disappointed and frustrated with this horrible invention!

I didn't use this frequently – I found this was only really useful for a few months. It would be more useful if you wanted to make fresh baby food every day, but I found myself using my other blender to make larger batches so I could freeze them into small portions more often. A little pricey but works well – i was searching for the best steamer and blender to use, In comparison to other brands, I believe the price is a little over than the brands we know. Opting for what is the best for my newborn, i gave this one a try. I love that it doesn't require so much attention when I make some food.
