Great Machine just wish it was bigger – I got this from my mum when our oven was out of commission and it served our large family of 4 adults and 4 kids well for several months! The only little quibble i would have would be that the basket is too small... Also the instructions arent great if you have never used this type of product before but trial and error and after a few uses we were up and running! Well done Phillips! Show details ·  1

Great appliance but needs to be made easier to clean – Great for frozen foods, roast pork and crackling. Also works perfect on sausage. Not great for spring rolls. Haven’t tried baking yet so can’t comment. Removing and cleaning basket is easy. Need to clean after EVERY use as grease that has been caked on will take more effort later to clean. Hard to get into or clean top section where heat comes… Read more

from so over time you will get a build up of food splatters, grease and oil- this may turn you off using the product as it’s probably a little unhygienic to look at.

Quiet simply - You cant beat the original and best designed air fryer! – PROS - Original, well researched, market leading air fryer design that performs impeccably - Price has fallen considerably since their introduction several years ago (now $145-$180) making them much more affordable - Compact, lightweight yet robust design - Relatively quiet operation but does sound a bit like a jet engine - no-brainer temperature… Read more ·  1

and timer dial settings so no need for operating instructions - orange light indicates when heating element is operating - easy to remove, handle and clean the cooking basket and outer bucket - Strong durable Teflon coating makes cleaning a breeze with minimal risk of damaging the coating. You can even use non-scratch plastic scourers if necessary. - any baked on grease and oil is easily removed with oven cleaner - Perfect for heating frozen potato fries and hash browns, chicken schnitzels and crumbed tenders, Chiko rolls, meat pies, frozen crumbed fish pieces etc

CONS - no light to indicate that this air fryer is ON and in operation. Hence a potential safety issue in noisy environments or for those with poor hearing. - The cooking basket is not held firmly inside the air fryer. Hence when carrying the air fryer around, the basket can easily fall out onto the floor and become damaged as happened to me. It does however make for easy removal. - this air fryer does not switch off when basket is removed so a safety issue - unfortunately some of the newer models have changed to digital control panels - Cooking raw meats such as steaks, chicken, sausages, pork and roasts is NOT recommended as they cause problematic splatter to circulate and collect all around the air fryer. This is actually mentioned in the instructions under TIPS. Your air fryer will quickly become inefficient and unusable and will also become a haven for cockroaches (applies to all air fryers). TIP: You can use oven cleaner to effectively remove grease and oil splatter baked onto the cooking basket

NOW FOR REVIEW IN DETAIL On the surface many cheaper brands attempt to, in some ways, copy this Philips air fryer design. However they are just no comparison to the original and market leading Philips air fryers as several key design elements are always missing, resulting in an inferior build and subsequent failure to perform on key metrics such as even cooking, ease of cleaning and durability. So don't expect to pay $50 to $80 for one of those cheap air fryers and get the same quality and results as a $170 to $200 Philips air fryer They are chalk and cheese. Totally different in all respects - build, quality, design and performance!

And let me tell you that all those users posting great reviews about those cheap Anko and Mistral air fryers have no idea what they are talking about because they haven't used the market leading Philips air fryer. Hence they have no performance and design benchmarks on which to make any comparisons. All they can say for certainty is that it works, Nothing more. Unlike other reviewers here I have used both the cheap and popular Mistral ($49) and Kmart/Anko ($59) air fryers as well as this quality Philips air fryer so I am best qualified to give a thorough and most informative, unbiased review and explaining all the pros and cons. So here we go.... Firstly let me say that you should clean all air fryers immediately after every use. Otherwise you risk permanently baking on grease, oil and cooking splatter and hence creating a wonderful haven for cockroaches! Also its just plain unhealthy not to clean them every time! Hence both ease of cleaning and durability becomes a very important consideration in any air fryer. The Philips air fryers are a market leading innovative design that cook well, clean easily, are reasonably durable and are certainly built to last. You can use them over and over again provided you clean them properly and regularly. Preferably immediately after cooking. In contrast those cheap Mistral and Kmart/Anko air fryers cook relatively unevenly. The non-stick coating, although it cleans easily, lacks any durability so rubs away easily and the digital control panel is subject to premature failure due the hot and greasy environment to which it is subject. The Philips air fryer has a metal cooking basket with unique stainless steel wire mesh at the bottom to maximize hot air flow entering the cooking basket from below. The cooking basket sits within an outer metal bucket with a unique turbo air design moulded into the bottom to direct hot air back up through the metal wire mesh bottom of cooking basket .The outer bucket also effectively contains the heat and the excess oil and splatter. This clever design allows for optimum hot air circulation for even cooking. It also allows you to lift out the inner cooking basket by the handle and conveniently tip out your cooked food. Then clean it immediately whilst the oil is hot and easy to wash off. You can even use a non-scratch plastic scourer on them if you must due to the fact that both baskets have a durable, high quality Teflon style non-stick coating. As a result Philips air fryers heat very evenly without the necessity to turn everything and are quick and easy to clean. Unlike cheap air fryers that utilize cheap digital controls on circuit boards, this Philips air fryer uses time proven robust and durable dial controls that (unlike digital controls) are unaffected by heat and moisture. What I strongly suggest is limiting use of ALL air fryers to heating frozen foods such as fries, potato gems, crumbed fish pieces, chicken schnitzels, Chiko rolls etc. i.e. stuff that just requires heating up and does not splatter or cause any greasy mess inside the air fryer. Its certainly good for that as long as you wash the residual oil away immediately after every use. If you read some of the positive reviews here you will see this is the ideal purpose for which air fryers are being used. So stay well away from steaks, sausages, pork or anything that requires cooking and/or causes splatter as such. In fact I would suggest this for all air fryers. Contrary to what they suggest in their marketing, air fryers are not a substitute for grilling in or on a stove or cooking/ baking in an oven unless you want to throw your air fryer away in a hurry!

Nobody should be without one! – This is one of the best bits of Kitchen equipment we've ever owned! Salmon fillets, fries, snacks, steaks, chicken breasts, sausage rolls, chicken schnitzels etc. Can be a bit hard to clean, I use a Karcher Pressure washer to clean the basket. Show details

How did we live without this? – Not having used an Airfryer before, I was a little uncertain as to how foods would cook - and taste - compared to conventional deep frying. This Philips machine is, in my opinion, amazing! My whole family was pleasantly surprised at how well everything tastes from this machine. Fried chicken, chips, fish, and even sausage rolls taste great!… Read more ·  1

There's a few things worth knowing however: Store bought frozen and coated chicken pieces, coated/beer-battered chips and that sort of thing are the types of foods it excels with. I'd argue that this Philips Airfryer is as good or better than deep frying or oven-cooking with these foods. Why? Not only do the outside coatings come out really crisp and tasty, but the cooking time and electricity used is greatly reduced. Also - and this is perhaps the most important factor - so much less oil is used. I've always been strong on taste - and was always reluctant to believe that the Philips Airfryer could produce a taste that was equivalent or a least similar to deep frying/oven cooking. Well, I can certainly say that I've found that 'sweet-spot' in my family's cooking with this Philips Airfyer - a great balance of taste, economical running, and healthier eating! We couldn't do without it now that we've had one.

a workhorse, but cleaning is a pain – This is a workhorse of an appliance that gets used 2-3 times a day at our place. Perfect for - toasted sandwiches without squashing them flat on a press - hint: a spoon of ragu sauce spread on the bread works a treat. - chicken breast pieces for burgers - slice in half to make them thinner, toss with BBQ or Teriyaki sauce &… Read more ·  1

cajun/Moroccan/Chipotle powder.

- kebabs - pork mince, grated apple or pear, Chinese 5-spice & bbq sauce - on the metal skewers you can buy as an accessory or just break in half bamboo skewers

- chips - frozen 4g/100g fat

- frozen or fresh par-baked bread dinner rolls

- eggs, tomato, onion, sausage pieces - all in the baking dish accessory for breakfast

- roast veggies, especially sweet potatoes or pumpkin cubes dusted with cajun/chipotle/Moroccan seasoning

But....after a while the cleaning nightmare begins. The non-stick coating wears off. Stuff sticks and burns everywhere on the wire basket. Get yourself a couple packets of small toothbrush-sized metal brush sets from Daiso to scrub it clean. Also wipe the back and insides clean every 2-3 months to stop it from smoking. Every 2-3 days it's best to wash in the dishwasher to remove any remnants of grease.

Watch out for:

1) As a rule avoid using too much oil (1-2 drops) and avoid fatty foods like bacon and sausages - the oil gets blown about inside and gets behind the heating element and eventually starts to smoke.

2) The basket and the drain pan click together. But be careful. The pan containing hot oil and liquids can come loose and fall, and do cause serious burns.

Is it worth the money?

Yes. I've tries other no-brand units, but the Philips actually works better. In particular the shape of the bottom of the pan means it heats both sides of the food evenly; other units don't.

This is such a useful appliance that it's worth buying replacing 2-3 years, especially when major retailers have a sale.

Love this product, used daily in our household ! – The Philips Airfryer has become an indispensable product in our household. I don't know how we ever lived without it really. It's so easy to use, the kids can make their own snacks any time. Mostly we use it to make roast potatoes and vegetables, bake frozen fish fillets then add cheese on top for fish burgers, baked beans on toast with grilled… Read more

cheese, re-heat any fried meats etc. the list is endless really. Anything you can do in an oven, you can do in the air fryer much faster, but on a smaller scale of course. The product I must admit is not the easiest to clean. The fine wire mesh basket has too many nooks and crannies for food to get stuck in. After a while grease and food is baked in, it's simply not convenient to clean it every time you use it (and we use it a lot). I have recently purchased an air fryer accessory set that includes a baking pan, grill tray, silicone mat and more. I wish Philips would include these items with the Air Fryer, it would really enhance the customer experience.

I love this and can't live without it – I love this product. Bought it over 5 years ago and it's still going strong. I will need to replace the basket and cooking tray soon because over time the paint/finish does start to deteriorate but that is to be expected when you've used it nearly every day for years. Does the best roasted vegetables ever. Cut up 2 carrots and 2 potatoes, add… Read more

a dash of olive oil, rosemary and salt. Cook for 10 minutes on 200 degrees. Then add the level divider rack and stick a frozen chicken schnitzel on top and cook the lot for another 10 minutes. If you pop a bowl of broccoli, peas and zucchini in the microwave whilst you do this for 5 minutes you'll end up with a complete dinner in 20 minutes and it took hardly any effort at all. LOVE THIS PRODUCT!

Best and healthy way of cooking – This was the best decision I made for our family, whilst I was never into heavy deep frying food, knowing we can have all the yummy foods just healthier. If I can cook it in the oven I can cook it in the fryer . Just purchased my second one. Show details

Good, but wouldn't buy this one again – I've had this air fryer for around 6 years now. It was great to start with but over the years it's harder to clean (I used to hand wash, but have a dishwasher now & it still gets built-up grease on it.) Essential part of my kitchen – I’ve had my airfryer for over six years, and I can’t live without it! Almost anything that can be cooked in an oven, can be cooked in the airfryer; but much faster and healthier. You can even freshen up bread rolls or do boiled eggs in it. I’ve found that I don’t use my ordinary oven at all now. Highly recommended! Show details ·  1

Worth every cent – I love eating fried foods but i have never liked deep frying things because of the oil splatters. Now all i need to do is chuck them into the air fryer and it comes out golden and crisp, just like they're deep fried. I usually use it to fry popcorn chicken and fries, even just to reheat buns. It is also easy to clean. i always put some foil on the dish in between the mesh to catch the excess oil to make it easier for cleaning. Show details ·  1

cooked.

If we have any concerns, it does have a limited capacity, but is adequate for our needs for we rarely entertain any more. Also, the temperature parameter only allows 200C and the timer 30 minutes, so sometimes you have to adjust your cooking strategies.

One feature we particularly like is that you can slip it into the dishwasher after use and it emerges like brand new Would like to give it 5 stars (maybe even 6) but this page seems to have the rating feature disabled after the third star.
