Protool PDC 18-4 TEC LI AUS 240V

Cheaper than expected – this drill driver is really well made and balanced . The price is not bad given the versatility and engineering involved compared to many other drill that I have owned . Battery life is amazing . All good . Metal chuck and lots of other accessories are available -- but price is fair unless purchased as a kit .
Stunning – This drill showed me what a cordless drill could and should be. I was thinking I would need to get an electric drill to get high speed but the Protool PDC 18 in fourth gear is 3800 RPM... As a driver, the electronic clutch and the degree of control from the trigger are everything I would have thought possible. It seems a little heavy at first heft but when you actually use it you don't notice, it's well balanced. I still don't see anything on the market to match it. This model has now been replaced by the Festool branded version, which as I understand is identical except for cosmetics. I've never used the hammer (aka "impact") function so would have been just as happy with the DRC 18-4 model, but I suppose it doesn't hurt to have the hammer function in reserve, even though I do have a heavy duty corded hammer drill.
[Update 9 May 2015] Yesterday I bought a right angle attachment for my PDC. I thought I would have to chase up an old stock Protool one, but it turns out that Festool make them now. It can be a bit confusing because Festool make several "Fastfix" right-angle attachments and only one of them fits the PDC 18; in addition the Festool AU website lists them under "Drills and Hammer Drills" and NOT under "Cordless Drills and Impact Drivers". Anyway the part number is Festool 769097 and they are $135.
best drill on the market by far – expensive but worth every cent i would recomemend this to anyone who wants a drill that will last. have gone through two makita drills both 18v and i milkwalkie. the protool drill is the best by a long shot.in every way. long lasting batterys that dont loose charge while sitting in the case. longest last batteries in the market, great warrenty service
I also disagree, my batterys lasted only about 30 mins each...
Had never heard of Protool till I saw the on display in a Building supply shop and when I was told they were made by Festool I was sold. Yes they are expensive but ARE worth every cent. First brushless cordless drill on the market at the time and batteries that last twice as long Dewalt's equivalent. I use it for my plumbing trade and it only let me down once when it's reverse switch failed 3 months after purchase. Fixed under warranty in two weeks. Have given it a good thrashing over a two year period drilling into timber, metal and masonry. It's just a bloody awesome drill! Only wish it had a light on it then it would be perfect.
This is the one of the best cordless drills on the market – I am a carpenter/builder. I have had the Protool 18v 4speed impact drill for over a year.This cordless is quiet, strong and it gives total control.The batteries are brilliant. This drill is more powerful then my Milwaukee V28 or( M28 as it is Know as now ) and at 1.9kg it's over a kg lighter than the V28. It's chuck is removable with just one click and you are left with a hex drive that you can put screw bits straight into. This lets you get into the smallest of spaces. This drill delivers all it's torque even at very low speeds, you will never jump a screw again. Try it in the tool shop beside any other drill. None of them will let you go as slow or as fast as this and the means you are in control. I am a big fan of Festool-Protool. You should be able to get this drill at about the same price as any comparable drill. Don't let some salesperson sell you a lesser drill because it suits them. I use mine every day in work. I use 100mm batten screws in to hardwood all day and if i need to put in 20mm 6g screw it does that perfect too. The electronic screw torque is the best. This is a great product. It's Light , 4 speed gears , Quiet , fits into small spaces, batteries are brilliant, One click removable Chuck. Built in belt clip. It is at the top end of the price range but worth every cent. The four speed gear selector is a bit clunky but has caused no problems.
I do general building maintenance and normally headed for Makita for the majority of my most used power tools. I saw this on a shops stand and liked it. Bought it and now absolutely sold on it. Brilliant battery, grunt and torque when I need it. Has a good sized grip and easy accessible and positive feeling controls. It sure wont end up in the trash bin or skip for many years. Before I bought it, I checked the model out at a couple of power tool Repair Shops and both said that they had no reoccurring probs and if I could afford the dollar, "Go for it".
My only concern is if I put it down and get distracted, some barstard will nick it! I'd go get another though.
Will look at the right angled chuck now, as it would have solved a number of probs over the past years. One of which was that gib had to be removed to get to a fixing, then all the replacing, stopping and repainting & TIME! It cost the customer far more than the accessory right-angle chuck would have been!

Sorry I dont agree. Mine only lasted me 10 months now its back to manufacture and it will take only 4 weeks for repair?? For something that costs over $800.000 I would expect to work at least two years.;
