Samsung CLP-310

There's a reason it's cheap – I had wonderful service out of this machine, astonishingly high quality prints, nice solid blacks etc. Is is simple to maintain. When the toner started to run out I went and got myself a toner refill kit off eBay, which is a small fraction of the cost of replacing the genuine toner, and of course not licensed by Samsung. I don't know what went wrong, but now the blacks are very faint, and the imaging drum has some damage to it, possibly from fallen toner (nothing must touch that drum, the manual suggests you even keep it out of light - period!).
I'm not sure if it's the refill toner, or the chip I installed (to fool the machine into thinking the toner's always full) making the printer malfunction, but I am ticked off. It's ridiculous that even the generic toner cartridges easily outweigh the cost of a brand new printer.
I don't recommend this printer to anybody, I say wait until something with sensibly priced toner replacememnts come out. I want to try out the new LED printers by Brother... Excellent print quality, mainly speaking about the detail. Small. Replacement toner is too expensive. The imaging drum won't last long.
Excellent – Big improvement on having an ink gobbling printer that could never be trusted to work after being idle for a few months. Don't forget to change the settings to black from darken for print so it uses the black rather than colour. Well made. Good print quality. Big toner capacity compared to ink cartridges. Fast printing. The quality of the printing was a pleasant surprise for photographs. Potential cost of replacement toner trays in a few years time but refill kits are already available for 1/4 of the price.
