Wish they still made these – Impulse purchase circa 2010 from the since defunct Clive Peeters after an impressively juicy instore roast chook demo. Most expensive kitchen gadget we've ever bought but no regrets (well, only one) and still in daily use some 9 years later. Only -ve is the heat exchange module for steam stopped working & cost about half the original purchase… Read more
price to repair outside of warranty! Fingers crossed it's still going strong today although the convection elements, magnetron & non stick liner are starting to show their age. Large enough to do most cooking duties without resorting to our 900mm oven and small enough to save electricity and not create an unbearable hot house in summer. Unbeatable for moist juicy roasts, long & slow braises, tender cakes, proofing breads and keeping food warm without drying out but not so much for intense radiant grilling and still prefer a traditional steamer for steam only dishes. Would be a sad day when the steam oven calls it quits as Sharp don't offer a follow on model.
Can not be without this wonderfull machine – Can not be without this wonderful machine. We have a builtin Miele oven but rarely use it. As a competition baker this machine has produced many award winning breads, biscuits and cakes. But sadly after all these years it is starting to show its age. Only two repairs globe had to be replaced after travelling back from having the steam component… Read more · 1
replaced and now producing a hot spot. It's a great pity that Sharp stopped manufacturing it or build a newer model to replace it. I can not find another machine to match it. Sorry Sharp you were on a good thing you should have stuck with it. We still have and use a Sharp Carousel Microwave bought back in 1980 and it still going strong.
Not value for money – Great unit when it works. Easy operation , easy clean BUT no longevity. At $1100.00 I expect it to work for more than 6 years following all care instructions. Steam operation sporadic after 4 years then magnetron needed replacement at 6 years. Service provider found parts difficult to obtain and then it cost half retail price to fix. Would buy similar product again just not a Sharp model. NOT VALUE FOR MONEY. Show details · 1
best thing i have ever bought dont want to cook without it – hardly ever use the microwave I now use steam instead cannot praise it enough. I put in vegies, fish or meat (meat I wrap in foil) set the timer to steam come back when it beeps in 30 min all done, or roast conventional style, put everything in set timer, set and forget, cooked when beeps turns itself off, great, reheating steam takes 1/2 min… Read more · 1
longer than the microwave but the taste is soooo much better used every day, more than once
downside, moved house, 2 years after purchase, now the steam side does not seem to be working, bought at Harvey Norman so I have extended warranty new for old, I am happy if I can fix or replace
would recommend this to anyone with great confidence..
Brilliant while it's working but – Great thing while it's working just on 2 years old it stopped blew the slow blow ceramic fuse rang sharpe they aren't interested only one year warranty gave me the name of their repairer he said don't bother to fix it it's not worth it buy a new one $1000 dollars every 2 years isn't my idea of a good product totally unsatisfactory sharpe Show details
Served us well for 5 years now – Our appliance is used multiple times daily. We have used it as a steamer, convection oven and microwave. The light bulb has just blown which has been the only fault. Fantastic appliance. Considering we have not maintained it as per the user guide it really has lasted well. Who knows we may get another 5 years out of a it. Show details · 1
Biggest Load of Expensive Rubbish – Had this product for 3 years and as far as steaming never worked, absolute waste of time. After a year light went and cost $100 to replace the bulb. After 2 years internal paint started to come off needing a replacement surround and after 3 years totally died. Sharp customer care were no help. Worst product we have ever bought. Show details

5 years with our AX1500JS – We have had our Sharp for about 5 years. My wife loved it. Sadly it ceased to operate on microwave, so we took it to our local electronics place. They had it for about 2 months and then said they couldn't fix it. We took it to a service centre in Canberra and they then gave us bad news. Inverter power supply and Magnetron stuffed. About $700 to… Read more · 1
repair. Most of that was the cost of parts (about $100 labour only). To add insult, the parts were not available in Australia or Malaysia. The service centre couldn't even guarantee if they could get the parts! Not happy.
I tried to find out if I could get the parts myself from Sharp, but to this day I don't know how much they were. I tried phoning Sharp help line and got a very rude response from the guy on the other end of the phone. I then tried emailing, and after a few weeks got a response from Sharp Customer Service. Eventually, they said they would repair the oven at no charge to me. True to their word, they did and the oven was fixed within a week. Where the parts came from I have no idea.
Very happy with Sharp's ultimate service, although the initial response was far from satisfactory. More importantly, my wife is very happy to have her oven back in service... Well done Sharp.
Magic appliance – We bought the Sharp Super Steam some years ago and it is really a magic appliance to have in your kitchen. Sits on the bench or in your appliance cupboard and works superbly. We were without a wall oven for some time and thank goodness for the Super Steam. Just plugs in an ordinary socket, but goes up to the high 200,s for convection cooking. The… Read more · 1
added steam is beautiful. The only down side we have found is the oven coating does wear off and we have only cleaned it according to the instructions.
This is perfect; can't live without it – Love it! I've had mine for about 3 years and use it on a daily basis for some microwaving but mostly as an oven. I cook everything in it. Roasts, cakes and bread. I'm sorry to read the negative reviews as it must've just been bad luck . I would recommend this great unit to anyone and will shortly be buying another. It is perfect for my needs and very highly recommend Show 4 replies
Office of Fair Trading forced a refund – see my comments under deey. I ended up taking it in for repairs. Sharp couldn't repair and refused to admit there was a fault with the expanding metal trays getting stuck and having to be forced out by tilting - causing hot oil to spill over. Office of Fair Trading caused them to give me a full refund. NO MORE SHARP products for me. economical design fault - no side metal rails so baking trays can slide in and out like in a normal oven

Cannot live without it! – This is a fantastic machine. We needed to replace a microwave, we are also renovating and I considered replacing my huge Ilve (which takes forever and costs $$ to heat up) with two smaller wall ovens for day to day baking plus quite liked the idea of a steam oven. That was all going to be many thousands though so I looked into the steam oven. We… Read more · 7
got a really good deal on our sharp supersteam, but even at RRP this is a life saver. We are a family of six, I can get a roast chicken in it, 24 muffins, microwave or steam two trays of veges etc etc. I have not used the big 90cm oven since getting this one. It heats up in less than 5 minutes to 180C so I am doing much more home baking. And if we move I can take it with me. I have not really experimented with the preset programs or cookbook because it has just been so easy to do all my regular cooking in it. There is no instant cook on the microwave bit, which I considered putting in the cons, but really that is good cos you do not want to hit instant cook with the metal convection baking trays still in and fry your magnetron, so a couple of steps to zap my coffee makes me a little more aware of not having anything untoward in while microwaving. Fast to heat up. Energy efficient. Easy to clean, Great value for money.
No need for a big oven – This is my replacement for a Panasonic NN-CS596S and even though I have had it for a short time so far it has definately impressed. Recipes out of the book work a treat, grilling cheese rolls come out golden brown rather than anemic looking like the Pana. So far so good (2 months) considering by this time with the Pana I'd already had my first… Read more · 3
replacement oven! Recipes in book that come with oven actually work and look exactly how the pictures look in the book! Is reasonably expensive retail price....lucky I didn't pay that for it ;-) having to empty the wter from the system after steam cooking can be a bit tedias

Know better, choose better.
A warning and advice for would be purchasers of this oven – I purchased this oven just over two years ago and mostly used it for microwaving and steaming and twice used it for combination conventional/steam cooking. I am a bit of a clean freak and religiously followed the cleaning and decalcifying instructions when told by the oven and I wiped it out after each use as directed in the instructions. A few… Read more
months ago I was wiping it out and noticed that the paint was peeling off the inside of the oven around the steam holes. This was very worrying because it exposed bare aluminium and the primary use is as a microwave for me. I sent photos and an email to Sharp who after obtaining all purchase details deliberated for weeks and then told me that it was my fault because I hadnt followed cleaning instructions!!!! I went to consumer affairs who told me that there was nothing that they could do because my story was different to Sharp's story. I was therefore $1400 out of pocket and needless to say i will never buy another Sharp product. The warranty on the product is only 12 months and I dont believe this is sufficient for a product of this type. The ability to steam, bake, roast microwave in one oven Quality of construction and poor warranty
Thank you Clive- I was just about to buy one today and after reading your story I shall no longer… Read more (+2 replies)
Budget price combi steam oven – I love this oven. Coming from a mid size microwave I barely used, this one has a bag of features I use frequently. For me this ovens key piece is the combi functions such as steam with grill or steam with bake. It gives the advantages of steam cooking such as rendering the fat out of the skin, then giving it a blast for a crispy finish. … Read more · 3
Perfect chicken and fish with a few button presses, juicy inside and crispy outside. Throw in a bag of marinated chicken pieces and 40 minutes later its done. Writing this I'm longing for that next perfect piece of salmon.
The small cavity size makes it a great little utility convection oven and its fan assisted too. Fast to pre-heat, it's done great with muffins, bread and chips with no cool spots. Its still big enough for that chunk of roast meat or chicken too. Nice that it can be set to auto pre-heat too.
As just a microwave it may fall short. Its not as simple to use and has a relatively low power output. Its also of the non rotating variety that uses black magic to stir the microwaves instead, and it works. It may in fact be a great microwave but its not what I use it for.
The built in auto menu functions are very useful and easy to bring up by pressing the relevant cooking mode button. Reheat, Cooking by weight, dough proof, rice by the cup, veggie times and more are all there. Most will find the display easy to navigate but anyone that dreads using modern electronic equipment may find it all too much.
Looks wise, its very modern, has a brushed metal trim and large handle so it blends well with any other stainless appliance. When its not in operation the display shuts down so no annoying glow but that also means no clock.
The down side to all this steamy goodness is it makes a mess. After its done it'll be soaked through and any grilling leaves quite a bit of residue on the top and back. There is a steam cleaning function to help if it builds up but I give it a thorough wipedown after every use. The display will always ask for a clean after steam is used as a reminder. It has a protective non stick internal but its not scour friendly so soft cloths only. Mine also has a few wear marks from where the trays slide. It also requires some maintenance for descaling and cleaning now and then.
Its a noisy little beggar that blows its share of hot air, and it blows it forward from a top mounted exhaust. The fan continues to run after use for several minutes so the noise wont stop right away. It needs lots of room around it to breath so its not suitable for your average wall oven tower. The door also being hinged at the bottom like a standard oven makes it difficult to use above anything but bench height.
Getting the most out of this oven will take some forethought because of its versatility. I like using it for rice because its so easy but when those ribs are in there rendering down I cant use it for that or microwaving up some veggies. Figuring out steam cooking timing also takes some getting used to, more towards convection than microwave.
I wouldn't recommend this to anyone that just wants an easy to use microwave or basic oven. Its not going to replace your regularly used dedicated appliances, but for anyone that appreciates the advantages of combi steam cooking its fantastic. perfect chicken duck ribs and crispy skin salmon, no apparent cool spots on any of the functions, three ways to cook in one unit, well laid out controls with many options, auto pre-heat and its fast, possibly the most inexpensive steam/grill/bake oven available relatively low microwave output, bottom hinged so only suitable for bench height or lower, 2 years of use and the inside coating at the side rail is wearing, requires a large area around the unit for cooling, as with any steam oven it'll need a clean up after using and descale occasionally, exhaust blows forward
