Smeg no longer support with spare parts – I have owned a SMC1A coffee machine from Smeg for a number of years, and have had my ups and downs with it but have always been able to get spare parts. The Dosing Spring broke yesterday and today Smeg advise that the spring is no longer available. So much for their claim that "Smeg carries a full range of spare parts and due to the longevity of… Read more

Smeg appliances, we carry spare parts on some popular lines for 25 years plus!". So for the sake of a $10 spring I am supposed to throw away a $5000 coffee machine???

Coffee Mad! – We inherited our machine with our house and thought it quite a coup as coffee is VERY important to us. Unfortunately we haven't tasted a single cup as the machine seems to be afflicted with most of the problems mentioned by other reviewers to this site . I now despair of ever producing a cup of coffee from our Smeg SCM1.... Such a shame.... It sits in the wall torturing us with its lost potential  Show details

A Waste of Money – After continuous breakdowns with "grinder error" problems, we have finally given up. No Smeg Service people available to repair the machine. First came disappointment at such an expensive item not performing, then anger at multiple breakdowns with nil service support, now, I am just embarrassed that it is in our kitchen. Do not buy this machine.  Show details

Great Coffee, when it works – Whilst it looks great and makes great coffee when it works, much of its time is spent gathering dust. Ours has spent about a third of its life (3 years) as oversized ornament in or kitchen, due to product failures. One thermostat, then a seal, which was never fixed, then a fused creamer, which has been torn off at the copper pipe. Often, it has… Read more

spent months away in the repairers workshop. SMEG serviced it once or twice, then left all service to outsourced contractors. Steve Cullen, if you are reading this, please make contact, as I would welcome SMEG taking back some ownership of at least doing the repairs. The last "so-called "SMEG authorised repairer" told us that he couldn't get a part for it. Can you?

Cheers

Mark

Hopeless machine... nothing but trouble!! – Ok coffee when the going is good, but frankly after the latest crash.. which is apparently attributable to a faulty thermostat, I've now had it disfunctioning 6 months and I've had enough. I, like many other posters cringe every time I have a visitor to my house at the chance that they may ask for a coffee and all I can offer them is instant.

Constant issues with 'Coffee Pump Error' – I was extremely excited to see a built-in SMEG SCM1 coffee machine in my house when I bought it. In the last 12 months I have had issues for no water getting into the machine, even though it is hooked up to the mains and there are no issues with the hose. Constant errors flashing up in relation to Coffee Pump errors and grinder errors. I have had… Read more

people over to service the unit to no avail.

I thought this coffee machine would be my little luxury however I have been let down and am considering, even though all the appliances in my kitchen are SMEG, purchasing a MIELE.

Never worked correctly!! – We have had nothing but problems with our Smeg SCM1 coffee machine since purchasing it. We have sent it back on no less than 4 occasions with numerous problems, including not grinding the coffee, sending what grinds it does through the whole machine, the steamer not working, not letting us use the mains water that we specially had plumbed into… Read more

the house. I am embarrassed when our friends come over and ask for a coffee only to be told the machine does not and has not ever worked correctly and is simply an ornamental product to make our kitchen look good.

The last time I got it back from the company who were supposed to fix it, it left their warehouse with the water vessel still full of water only to receive it with water through the entire machine and one very soggy box. This just added to the already list of problems with this machine. This is definitely not Smeg's fault.

I contacted Smeg and was told that they would try and replace the item but I have been told today that that will not be happening and that the pressure valve will be replaced (what about all the other problems?). Don't ever buy this particular Smeg product.

I finally give up! – Since purchasing my built in coffee machine, it has been in for repairs many times and last week was the last straw. This time it's the main boiler. I once again had to pay $280 for 2 servicemen to look at it and take it away and I was told that it will cost at least $1000 to replace the boiler. This machine has given us so much trouble and I… Read more

always hope that visitors don't ask for a coffee as it is so temperamental. Initially, I used to call the distributor but my calls were never returned. I am in such a dilemma as to what to do, but I think I may cancel the repairs and purchase a bench top machine.

Soapy smell – I bought the Smeg coffee machine two year ago. It made really good coffee for a year, I used to descale whenever the the sign descaling sign was shown but the coffee has a soapy smell even after descaling couple of times. Could you please assist me to rectify the problem.

Worst product ever – We have this one in our house from the previous owner. Saw the price tag online, definitely not worth it. The machine has some difficulty pumping out the water from the water container. Had service technician come over and fix it. After three months again problems. With this machine you never know if its going to work or not. However, when it… Read more

works it work well with no issues.

Apparently works better if water is connected directly to the machine. Will plug it in and see how it goes. Can only make expresso, nothing else Expensive, not worth it, makes only expresso

Excellent – Love it - nothing like fresh cuppachino in the morning/hot choc for the kids. Looks beautiful too - lovely clean lines. Also love that it is plumbed in so the only thing you need to refill is the coffee. Easy to use and refill - makes a great cup of coffee too. Tells you when to empty the coffee grounds too and very simple to operate. Auto turn… Read more

off if you forget. No need to have a kettle now either. Expensive - $5000, or thereabouts. Getting it to 'speak' English to us was initially a bit of a trail too - but worked it out.

Good – Can take a little bit of fiddling to get it set up right but if you are a coffee connoisseur and want an automated machine then this machine is a great option to get that perfect cup of coffee brewed where the simpler machines just don't have the required adjustability. I have taken off one star due to the high price of the machine. This machine… Read more ·  1

can either be run from a 2 litre water reservoir or can be directly plumbed to the water tap so you never have to refill the water again. If you are a real coffee fan then you will enjoy the adjustability of this machine with all temperature settings adjustable including coffee temperature and water dose and as usual grind size. Has an easy slide out system for refilling or can be easily sat on a bench if you want to use it as a bench machine. Has a great cappuccino automatic milk frothing system or do it the old fashion way with the steam nozzle. Comes with lots of spare parts including o-rings to keep it running in perfect order for many years to come. Seems very robust and sturdy construction. Stainless steel front and steel chassis looks indestructible. Does not fit tall coffee cups but not a big deal if you don't mind shallowing cappuccino mugs or espresso. This machine is very expensive at $4600 retail, although you can see what you are paying for with respect to the construction and adjustability. Quite large if you don't have the space.
