Terrible – paying for a sony and getting a samsung is like buying a mercedes and finding a daewoo motor in it. not on. able to make room on the tv cabinet by having CD,DVD and VCR in one unit with one remote. Quite happy with it until... it had a tape jam in it. the tech who repaired it told me it was a badge engineered samsung inside.

Bad – Comparisons made with 3 y.o. Sony VCR. I am very disappointed with this unit having had many Sony products. Won’t bother with extended warranty. I can no longer see any purpose in paying a premium for Sony over much cheaper brands. If this unit didn’t have a DVD player I would rate it 1. DVD plays all discs. Sound reproduction good on DVD & tapes. Remote uses different frequency to other Sony VCRs allowing tape on one, watch on another. Unable to copy from DVD to tape. VCR record & play picture below expected standard from Sony, especially noticeable on LP, irrespective where taped. Picture not bad enough to return unit, about the same as much lower priced unknown brands.
