Sony WX-GT78UI

Good Unit and easy to use – Bought this unit to replace a not quite working Alpine unit in my recently imported Toyota Levin. I had the space so my priority was a double din unit as I figure if you have the space why not use it or otherwise be stuck with badly designed head units with fiddly, hard to find buttons and poor displays (see my review of the Pioneer DEH 2050). I'm pretty happy with this purchase. Initially the aux input didn't seem to work until I gave the cable a good shove and eventually made a good contact. I looked at a number of other double din units around my price range of $200 to $300 and my brief opinion was that they seemed quite plasticy with buttons that didn't give me confidence that they would all keep on working - and they all sounded pretty much the same in the shop. As I said the sound is quite adequate since I am presently not running any extra amps and I get good sound quality with the volume pushed well above normal listening levels - no clipping or fuzzing from the speakers (stock Toyota in the back, new Polks in the front). CD and radio performance is what you would expect and relatively easy to navigate the various sound fields and set up custom ones without having to look at the book too much. The USB input was a bit dissappointing and to be honest this is the first unit I have owned with USB. I tried a number of devices and they took a while to recognise. The display is inadequate when you have portable devices with hundreds of albums on them - very slow to find anything so I will be using the aux input. To sum up - very happy and would recommend at this price level - paid $299 at WOW who also installed for $80.
