8yr Old (2013) ex-Rental Still Going Strong – I want a bike with bigger motor (for freeways) and wheels (for potholes) but wanted something to get me about during COVID, so I hired this from Scooter Rentals for a week and was impressed. The next time I needed a ride I offered to buy the same scooter. I imagine it’s had a thrashing but it felt and sounded good, and was a bargain for $1100. … Read more

It’s great for city riding which is what I bought it for (commuting, socials and (with the addition of a 45l topbox) for shopping). It’s comfy with plenty of leg room (I’m 183cm) and though I’m fairly heavy at 94kg it still goes from 0-60 faster than a car, so I generally get where I need to fast. It needs full throttle to hit 80km/hr heading up to Military Rd from the Sydney Harbour Bridge, so I wouldn’t really want to take it on a freeway (or for a long hard ride) but that’s ok, and no surprise. It does handle pretty well, cornering, straights, dry or wet though those little scooter wheels feel the bumps don’t they, and I wouldn’t want to be in a hurry with a pillion on the back.

The electric starter is good and easy. Mechanically it’s all good so far. I usually service and repair bikes & cars myself and I’d like to source a manual, so if you can tell me where to find a VS150 manual, I’d appreciate it. Meanwhile, everything looks pretty easily accessible.

I was offered a Piaggio for $700 more, and might take it fir a test ride to see how it compares but frankly, this little SYM is growing in me.

mine was a beauty 100% reliable – although i recently sold it to upgrade - i regard the SYM VS 125 as well above a no frills machine. the riding pleasure was the finest attribute for this town commuter it had enough get up and go when required - not a highway bike as to be expected, but really ticked all the boxes around town. a ton of storage under the seat a real advantage for the commuter/shopper.  Show details

Little beauty – I bought this 2011 scooter in 2013. It has been excellent. Apart from a couple of battery replacements this scooter has had no problem whatsoever. The storage is great, light weight to push around and yet comfortable for two people. Perfect for shopping and going to cafes and occasional cruising. Yesterday I did 400 km from Canberra to Sydney… Read more

via the coast and it went almost as good as the cruiser bike I used to own. I agree with some owners that the fuel tank could be a bit bigger but scooters are meant to be robust, simple and easy to use and it ticks all the boxes. I noticed that on highway if you push it towards 100 km per hour fuel consumption will drop the range to around 120 km, otherwise I should get about 150 km. At least it has a fuel gauge unlike some motorcycles.

Can struggle uphill, especially with pillion. However, being a 150 cc scooter this is expected.

Would recommend this to anyone. I have no plan to sell mine for a long time as the holding cost is so low.

Lots of issues after a few years – Got it second hand, speedometer broken ($200 repair) after 2 weeks it did not start, battery was faulty, had to get a new one. Three weeks later, it did not start again, needed a new coil. After 4 months, it needed a new starter motor (another $350). Now the cooling fan broke (another $100). Still a good scooter though.  Show details

Great – Great scooter. Comfortable up to 90-100km. Enough power to get away at the lights. Good underseat storage - does not hold XL helmet, so use a top box. Holds ~5L fuel for about 120km. Had for 3 years, 10,000km so far. Changed battery after 3 years as was not holding charge. Front tyre lasted about 9,000km. Need to charge battery if not using for… Read more

more than 4-5 weeks. Kickstarter sometimes does not work if left for longer, or needs several attempts. Serviced according to book (1k, 3k, 6k) for warranty purposes. Changed belt and rollers as recommended at 10k.

great bike – I love my vs 150, i hooked up some cables to the battery and ran them under the seat and can charge it with ease. Is this true that the vs 150 is discontinued? If so what is it going to be replaced by? I think they are only five years old.

Great scooter for city riding – This is my first scooter, I bought the 2010 model brand new incl. top box. I am a light city rider, and have only clocked ~2000kms to date. The primary reasons for choosing it was that it was relatively inexpensive (~$3.5K) and the generous storage space under the seat (which fits 3-4 bags of grocery shopping). The underseat storage doesn't… Read more

fit my full-face helmet, but there is room for that in the topbox. So full ticks for storage. (Note I replaced the original topbox (no-frills brand from dealer) with a Shad topbox as the original topbox occasionally popped open unexpectedly during riding, and thus went unused).

Performance wise:

- I've never had problems keeping up with city traffic. The fastest I've gone is 80km/h on flat road - I haven't tried to go faster as for me, that's when wind buffeting becomes an issue (not too mention, everything just happens too fast, like that incoming pot-hole..). You can feel the engine working hard on inclines, but this is a non-issue in suburban speed zones.

In terms of comfort:

- THe seat is nice & comfy to sit on. I'm 5'8 and am on the front pads of my feet when stationary. So the seat height is adequate, but it would've been ideal (for my height) if the seat had been just an inch lower.

- THe mirrors are ok. During riding training course, the instructors told us to keep the head up, and start making use of peripheral vision for things like scanning mirrors. IN this case, the mirror handles are just a bit short, so I actually have to flick a glance at the mirrors every so often, as peripheral vision just isn't viable for the given mirror height. Otherwise, the mirrors are fine. (I find I have to occasionally tighten them using a hex-key as they can become loose - but thats easy to fix).

- The smallish wheels and suspension takes some getting used too. Any substantial pothole, I have to prepare for impact, as you can get a shock in the lower-back if you dont put any weight on the feet/legs. (So best avoid potholes if you can!). I am aware that you can get the level of suspension adjusted by a mechanic, but I've also had moments (generally with potholes or speedhumps) when I feel it's too bouncy, so I am fine leaving the suspension at the default calibration.

- The brakes are responsive. No problem with braking.

- Signalling is easy, I like how you can press the button to cancel the signal.

- Lights are adequate (though I find car headlights are still better at illuminating the road).

All in all, it's generally a comfortable ride, so long as you can avoid substantial potholes.

Maintenance:

- 4 year warranty is great (though I've never needed to invoke the process).

- Well I'm not supposed to do much tinkering with it whilst it's in the warranty period. However sometimes I don't ride the bike for 2+ weeks which drains the battery, so since I park on the street I have to remove the battery from the scooter, and trickle charge the battery in the house. Now my main concern is here, is that the battery is not readily accessible (ie. takes me 10-15mins to remove/re-install).

- Also I once had to start it using the kick-starter pedal, which I found difficult to use and needed a friend to help out (ie. he had to use full weight of his body to fully depress the pedal). Very generous underseat storage; affordable capital cost; responsive & comfortable for city riding; responsive brakes; 4 year warranty; kick-start pedal available Battery not readily accessible; smallish wheels means substantial potholes may put stress on lower back if you don't prepare for it; may need help using the kick-start pedal

Great Little Scooter – This is my 5th Scooter, after Suzuki V100, SYM Joyride 150, SYM VTS 200 and the BMW C600 Sport. I love it , very nippy scooter great for around town. to save mileage on my C600 Sport, its very economical and easy to run around traffic to work.

I owned 2 SYM previously with no issue at all and I do most of the maintenance myself, on the average it cost me about RM 80.00 or 25 AUS dollar to service every 6 months. Its great and save me a lot in cash and commuting time.

I love this scooter Economical, easy to ride around traffic and enough power to pull away around town. Its Red in colour

Awesome motorbike – I bought a 2010 SYM VS 150 scooter after getting my Ls. Got it for $1700 with a top box. I was a bit stressed but it was a complete breeze to get comfortable on riding. Excellent – It's a good all round scoot. Sure some have water cooling, efi & dual discs but they are in a different price range. For the price its almost impossible to go past. it keeps the battery 100%.

Highly recommended for all scooter and bike owners! Cheap to buy, cheap to run. Is one of the best looking scoots in Australia.Very well built. Starts first time every time.HEAPS of storage...HEAPS!Good brakes.Has a kick start if your battery is flat.Headlight is great, i ride at night with a tinted visor and can still see! Battery does loose charge fast (3-4 weeks max w/out starting it)Generator on scooter is not big enough to recharge the battery from flat, even after 30+ min ride. ------------ FOR THE PEOPLE BELOW ------------You don't have to access the battery to charge/jump start it. Lift up the seat, remove the @ 6 10mm bolts and lift out the seat & under seat compartment. You will see the REMOTE Negative and Positive terminals. Impossible to miss! There is a lack of aftermarket performance parts.Access to a variator/exhaust/carb/150cc big bore kit would be good.

Excellent – Tested a few but bought the SYM Vs 150 and pleased with all round performance. The ones that didn't make it?. 1. Vespa 125 - Ride to pitchy, expensive. 2. Aprillia sportcity 125 - too small, expensive 3. CF-Moto 150GTi - just a bit rough and didn't feel solid. 4. TGB 101 - Too small. The above is my opinion only, I am a tall 6'4" person and… Read more

Have had bikes all my life and a holiday in Europe pointed to the scooter life and yes I still have my Honda CBR1100XX but for around town scooters rule. The VS 150 was my pick as it excelled as follows:-1. largest storage space2. Great lighting all round.3. well thought out suspension, effortless riding.4. Suits tall riders.5. Can you beat the 4 year warranty?.6. Attractive pricing.7. Overnight email response from Australian importer. 8. Light centre stand operation. 1. Colour choice too hard, red or pearl white, ending up with the red one.2. Getting from my wife!.

Good – Very pleased with the overall product. I'm so happy I got this bike instead of a 50cc. It's good enough to be on the highway at 100 kph but it seems most at home between the 60-80 kph range. Excellent – I'd recommend this scooter to anyone who wants a simple easy to ride fuel saver, It Is built well and handles an extra passenger without a problem! Everything!! as i'm used to bikes with loads more power, It'll sit on 90km per hour most of the time. I get about 180km from a tank however I don't let it run out! I truely think I could get it to use much more than this. I'm impressed with the lighting, I can see enought to safely ride at 80kmh on the road at night, the only thing I can complain about is the wind in your face. In town it's no drama, but if you do 15 km a day on a 80kmh road you tend to get very cold! a windshield would be a good standard feature. As long as it didn't look to gay.

The fuel consumption is terrific, in fact I thought my fuel gauge was broken, it just never seem to move.. I only wish they made it in a 200cc or lager... I love the VS125 in city trasffic, but, I want to be able to go on country drives... The 125cdc engine is fantastic around the city and suburbs, however, I've become hooked on riding my VS125 and I want to be able to go on short trips, sadly the 125 doesn't have a high enough cruising speed for our freeways...

Good – An excellent all round commuter. Likes to cruise at 90kph. Very stable feel while riding and is a pleasure to ride. Trying to push it over 90kph will weigh heavy on fuel consumption, though this is not so important for city commuting. Previously I had a HD200 which was at home at 100+ so would be better if using highways a lot. Good handling.… Read more

Looks good. Lots of storage. Good riding position. Good for taller people, I'm 180cm. Four year warranty. Could do with a bigger petrol tank. Fuel gauge is not linear to quantity - past half empty needle drops fast.

Excellent – As a around town scooter it gets 10 out of 10. The Australia 4 year warranty on parts (2 years on labour) is to good to ignore. Bang for buck, the best scooter value in Australia. Excellent – I bought my Sym VS125 second hand in November, 2009. It already had 2300kms on her and since then I've done another 2,000kms. I have had absolutely no problems with it, fantastic value as well. She is fast off the lights, I constantly surprise "flashy" cars with how quickly I take off and reach 60km/hr. The VS125 is perfect for city driving,… Read more

particularly in Brisbane weather. I have taken her on 70km/h, 80km/h and 90km/h roads with no problem, although I would say she is best on 80 or less (the 125cc aren't as heavy as the bigger bikes so if there is any wind at higher speeds it can knock you around a bit). In saying that, these bikes are built for city driving.

I would recommend this to anyone considering buying a scooter. For those who are considering getting a 50cc DON'T! Get a motorcycle license (you can get automatic ones) and upgrade to a VS125. 50cc don't have the power you need and can be sometimes unsafe (can't pick up speed fast enough). Even tho it cost me a little more to get my motorcycle license, I have not regretted getting my VS125 for a second. Massive underseat storage, quick take off, easily get to 60 km/hr, perfect for riding around the city. I pity people who have to take public transport or drive a car - a scooter is the BEST form of transport. Agree with 2nd review, fuel guage not linear in quantity. Not a big problem tho.

SYM VS 150 - Perfect for around town and short trips – Bought a VS150 years ago. Absolutely loved riding it. Rode everyday to work (10km) and Sydney to Newcastle a lot on weekends. this thing parked with 2 helmets, 2 pairs of gloves, sunglasses, flouro vest, chamois, water and riding jacket. It goes fast enough. Rides to Newcastle have me travelling at 90-100 most of the way. Around town the acceleration is great, I smile to myself when the car in the next lane is busting a gut trying to keep up from the lights. Fuel economy is good. Narrow scooter good for traffic elimination. I am tall 6'3' and I am comfortable on it. No clock (needed for School zones etc.). Bigger tank would be nice 5.5litres a bit small. No wind protection can get tiring on longer rides.
