Tomy Starlight Dreamshow

I love this – I had this when I was a baby. I am now a lot older and it still works. You just have to hit it a few times. The music is a bit blurry if that’s a way of describing it but it works as it should.
Dont buy it – We bought two of them and within 6 months of normal use the image stopped spinning on both of them. I isolated the fault to a defective mini generator that powers the cog system.I am rather dissapointed that such a promising product could have such a bad flaw. I would never buy from this manufacturer again.
Great, We Love It! – This is a great product. I tried using this when my bub was much younger but she didn't respond to it too much but now she is 7 months old it works a treat, if she is fussing about when I put her to bed & fighting sleep I turn this on & everytime she has fallen asleep before the music has ended. I've been amazed with how well it works for her. The… Read more
music plays for 10 minutes and has lovely pictures project into the roof, although the music seems loud it doesn't seem to bother my baby. It's defiantly been a great product for us & we are very happy.
Life saver – Great product my daughter really responds well to the music and light show, the fact that it can go for 10min is great! Only problem is the when the music finishes, it stops suddenly-no fading. The monitor displays Cute pictures that circle on the roof which my little one loves to watch. the colours are warm and soft with sleeping animals on them. A big hit in our house-even though my hubby hates the music haha
Love Love Love it! – I tried searching for a projector with a moving picture and there weren't many great options. I came across the Tomy Starlight Dreamshow and as it was only quite cheap I bought two. Cannot say how much I love this little projector. We use it every night as part of our bed routine and my daughter just loves it too. It's not too bright, the rolling… Read more
picture is nice and long so not repeating itself too often, it has two timer options 5min and 10min and 3 songs to chose from. It's not too loud and we cannot hear it in our bedroom that's right next door. My only complaint is the straps it comes with for hanging could be a little longer for positioning. We have ours hanging on the outside of the cot so bub cannot look straight into the light. We are on our third lot of batteries after a year (using the 10min timer every night) cannot recommend it highly enough, I have even bought more for friends. Cheap, portable, easy to use Straps for hanging & positioning could be a bit longer
Name of lullabies – My son loves it and after 3 seconds he is dead asleep. I make sure that he turns it on so he knows that it's time to go to sleep. I wouldn't attach it to the cot but place it next to it- like on a change table. I would love to know the name of the three lullabies as we have gone on holidays and left it at home! Lullabies Show reply
Very cute little bedtime light show for little ones – I had been looking for a nice, simple light projector for a little while to use in my bedtime routine with my 8 month old when I found the Tomy Starlight Dreamshow at Toys R Us. Initially I wanted a projector that projected stars but the only decent ones I found were horribly overpriced and didn't seem to have many good reviews for their price. … Read more
All the other baby projectors I had seen I thought were too complicated for what I was looking for as well as too expensive so when I found the Tomy Starlight Dreamshow for $35 and saw the gorgeous pictures that it projected, I knew it was just what I wanted so I bought it. When I got it home, however, there was something wrong with the projector - the music worked but the projector was stuck and didn't project the moving images like it was supposed to so I took it back for an exchange.
When I finally got home with a working unit, we used it for the first time at bedtime. My little boy loved it! I guess because we have had a bedtime routine for some time already he doesn't yet fall asleep on his own watching the images, but it helps towards relaxing him enough to fall asleep more quickly with the usual lullabies that we normally play/sing. I'm planning to gradually encourage him to lay in his cot and let the dreamshow lull him to sleep, but for now he's just getting used to it being a part of his routine.
I really love the little projector - the pictures are just gorgeous and have a nostalgic feel (perhaps that's why I like the unit so much). The choice of 3 melodies is good too although I find that we always come back to Brahm's lullaby - that's our favourite. I agree with other reviews that it would be better if the unit had volume control or the option to play only the images or music individually - that would be great - but for the price, it is a lovely, portable, easy-to-use, sweet little bedtime dreamshow that I can see is going to become a favourite for years to come. Good price , gorgeous little pictures, small and easily transportable Initially had to return the unit because the projector was stuck but had no problems exchanging it at Toys R Us
Good – This is a great little unit when baby has some trouble getting off to sleep. Bubs loves looking up at the projected images while soothing lullabies are played but the volume can be a little too loud in the quiet of the night. Overall good product though i probably would have paid a lil extra and opted in for one of those mobiles with a built in… Read more · 1
projector if i knew about them earlier. Nice compact design which is easy to attach to cot
Projects cute little images onto the ceiling at night (or in a dark room) to keep baby amused and drift them off to sleep
Three choices of lullabies
Timer to switches off after 5/10 mins to save batteries
Cheap Too loud and no volume control - I can hear it across the hall!
My son loves it – Great to soothe my son to sleep. He loves to watch the picture son the ceiling and is looking for them as soon as I put him down. He also likes to watch the star light up. Good price & good value. Reasonably priced, soothing, fun to watch
Good – I received three of these when I had my baby shower for my first baby. I returned two of them but would have kept a spare if I knew how good it would be. My son used this every night for about a year. He loved it. We have had a few issues with it sticking sometimes but has seemed to click back in for now. I must admit though it has had a lot of… Read more
use and a bit of rough and tumble. It actually got my son to move into a big bed. He had not seen it for a few months and when he started to get upset that his cot was gone we brought it into his big bed and lay there with it. He eventually went off to sleep hassle free. He used it again for a couple months and now is fine. I will have to find it and use it for my daughter soon and she is getting to that clingy, difficult to get to sleep age. Fantastic idea and my son has loved it. Well priced and loved by kids. Would be good to have a option to leave it running as it just has 5 and 10 minute options. Have had problems with it sticking at times but it has been well used.
Excellent – This was baught for me at my baby shower and have used it with my son from day 1 he is now 6mths old and loves it. When hes active it calms him down but doesnt put him to sleep as he tries to reach it and the pictures distract him. But when hes tired and on his side i turn it on the music puts him to sleep. Very good with batteries too! The… Read more
soothing tunes and the pictures also that is attaches to the side of the cot or it can stand If it could have more tunes and an option to swith the pictures off
Bad – i liked it until it was on the cot, and it moved alot and scratched the cot so bad. Not good when i just purchased a boori cot... hmmm dissapointed and took it back! cute, cheap scratched the cot and moved around alot
OK – This is an excellent unit, very durable and the rotating projected pictures are mesmerising for an infant of any age, encouraging them to sleep on their back. Unfortunately with our son, he would drift off to sleep during the 5 or 10 minute setting then wake up once the song finished. The volume is quite loud and the contrast between 'on' and… Read more
'off' was sufficient to consistently wake him up. This may not be a problem with some babies, but has meant that we get very little use from this item. durable, portable, a selection of tunes, great projected pictures No volume control, no music 'fade'.

Excellent – We used this and loved it. I found the music to be soothing and relaxing. Mine really enjoyed the chill time it provided. The pictures worked well and mine found them interesting. This prodcut would hold his attention beofre slep. It became quite a ritual. It has also sent me to sleep as well. I can not recommend this product encough s it was also… Read more
small enough to take on overnight trips. Loved this item. It was durable, portable and lasted the distance. It did nit eat the batteries although it over balanced a few times did not break. It was aslo inexpensive compared to other items.
OK – we purchased this product with the hope it would help our son sleep. It seems to stimulate him rather than relax him. The music is louder then I would like and there is no volume control. However it does keep his entertained when he is having quiet time in his cot. He likes to watch the pictures projected onto his ceiling. the batteries last a… Read more
long time, we have only had to change them once in 8 months and we use it just about everyday on the ten minute setting. easy to hook on the cot
can choose song and length of time song runs for too loud, no volume control
Excellent – Great little item which I was given at a baby shower. Its on to my second child and I have had no problems at all with it, I love how the lights rotate onto the roof, keeps bubs nice and settled. Happy times to be had by both mother, father & baby! Small unit, attaches to cot without screws or adhesives. Plays several different tunes which are… Read more
simple to change, has a choice of two different lengths of play time, the unit is not boy or girl so you are able to use it with children of both genders! theres nothing not to like about this unit!
Excellent – a couple of friends bought this for me before my baby was born, and I am glad they did, as it was something I probably wouldnt have bought myself, but it has been a blessing, as my son falls asleep easily, and when away, he recognises that it is time to sleep. It is small and easy to take away and the batteries last about 4 months, which in my… Read more
opinion is pretty good. Would buy it now that I know how good it is. I love this nightlight. My son looks up at the ceiling and watches the images and listens to the music and settles very well. My hubby always falls asleep withing the first ten minutes, in fact, he settles better than baby! it has a few different tunes, which is great. We take it when we go away, and baby recognises sleep time. Affordable It would be good if it had volume control.
Excellent – I bought this for travel and ended up using it more when we got home. It was just a lot less bulky than the other one we had and i like the images as they seemeed to be more clear. Really helped my son settle at night and a few times whe he was sick and we had him in bed with us we brought it in and it put us to sleep!! HAHAHAHA! That's how… Read more
realxing it is. Small and more compact than some out there, easy to use for travel which is what we bought it for No volume control and can not choose to turn of the music and keep the light on or visa versa
Good – I bought this when my son was 5 months old. Although he was a little older but he got used to it quickly for bed time. He love staring at the soft glowing light. I would definately recommend it. I love this projector. It is an excellent value for mone. The images projected are so cute and appropriate for sleeping with bears and clouds etc. Music… Read more
accompanying 3 lullabyes that are soothing for bedtime. The star glows softly so it acts also as a night light. It takes AA batteries which are affordable and available everywhere. But most of all, the 5 or 10 mins auto shut-off means that I dont have to keep switching on and off! Music can be a little loud as there is no volume adjustment. No choice of independent light and music.
OK – Due to the music being too loud we never used this as an item to help baby get to sleep. It is far more entertaining for our three year old who loves to run the projector show, but on many occasions has asked me to 'turn it down, it's too loud'. As an item marketed for babys it would appear to have a very short life as it needs to be removed as… Read more
soon as baby can stand/climb. If it was modified somewhat it would be more suited as a nightlight (no music or show) or a torch. Something to diffuse the light would be preferable as small children seldom listen when you try to explain to them that they are not allowed to look into the light. The cute images
That it can free stand The inability to switch off the music and just have the projector show running or the option to turn down the sound
Difficult to angle so that it is right over the cot, not very effective on sloped ceilings.
Excellent – cheap, effective, fun, and works great with self settling sleep techniques! able to be used from newborns till school age as its a cute nightlight as well. this is a cute light projector!! i started using it when my baby was 4 months. it has been great as i turn it on and it entertains her while she puts herself to sleep (no more screaming -… Read more
yeah!)it flashes coloured pictures of teddys, stars, hearts, rainbows and clouds. the actual unit lights up with a dull yellow light - acts like a night light when you are in there giving the dream feed. it comes in pink or blue (i've got a blue one for my daughter - makes no difference). the batteries last forever in this projector. it plays three different tunes to the sound of an old music box - so cute! the images project up to a lage circle on the ceiling that are hypnotic and i've caught myself nearly falling asleep to them myself. the best feature is that it can hang on the outside of your cot or it can free stand on a bedside table, chair etc. its small enough to be carted to grandma's and we even take it camping. you can pick either 5min or a 10 min setting. a great baby shower gift and under $25 its a treat! the music and light projector run simultaneously. we placed sticky tape over the sound holes to quieten the music.
Bad – Now. . my son walks he doesn't use it as an item to soothe and go to sleep - he prefers to walk around with it like a torch. Total waste of money as it never once put him to sleep just encouraged him to stay awake. The item would be better if there were no images and just a soft glowing light. Music is fine as it almost put me to sleep patting him… Read more
on the back. mmm. . .Batteries last forever in it and it doesn't matter what brand batteries you use and my son is now 2 1/2 years old and have only changed it twice. You need to start using it from birth. I started using it when my son was 5 months old and he totalling freaked out - it was like a horror movie. Would not recommend putting it on a cot like the item suggests, as the light is to bright for childrens eyes and once they start pulling themselves up (with assistance from the rails on the cot) they can easily look into the light. The item never once soothed my son to get to sleep, it was more a distraction from sleeping (once he got over the horror movie of Bears flying).

Excellent – I bought this prior to my baby being born, thinking I would use it to play him to sleep but that didn't work. He was too interested in watching it to "switch off and tune out" so in the end, I still use it when I am putting him down each night, but just as a pre sleep quiet time play session. Lulluby's are so lovely Pictures are so cute, my baby… Read more
loves the teddy bear projection.
Can be attached to the cot with a strap, or stand on a bench.
Had one battery change, used so far for 13 months every night. That's pretty good.
Useful to distract baby on change table from wriggling around. I give it to him to hold or if it's dark enough in his room later in the day I will project it off the nearby wall for him to stare at. Works a treat! The strap was hard to connect around my cot rail, maybe my cot rails were too thick.
OK – I got mine from Kmart, my newborn does like this, it does settles her a bit, but as soon as it turns off which is max of 15 mins, she's unsettled again, so wished it lasted longer. Small, compact, cute music, affordable, easy to set up Only lasts for 15 mins max, and turns off, I was hoping it would last for longer say up to an hour
Excellent – Easy thing to operate. Economical with batteries - Have only replaced them a couple of times. My toddler loves it too, just have to watch little kids getting a hold and looking at the laser light that projects the image - or when baby can stand up in cot. Time function (5min or 10min) is really good so you dont have remember to switch it off. The… Read more
moving pictures are very colourful but not too stimulating. The choice of tunes is a good thing. And the star shape means that you can stand it on an angle to project to a wall if your circumstance require that (you'd be surprised) Soon as we turned it on our baby would settle - but not neccessarily go to sleep! Affordably priced. More tunes would be great. Be really good if you could operate sound and picture together or independently.
Excellent – We've bought it when our baby was 4 weeks, she could not see images that time, but really liked music. Now she is 6 weeks and enjoys images that are projected on the ceiling under her cot and music as well. she calms down much easily and falls to sleep quicker. Also can be used as entertainment at evening time. We are very happy that we've bought… Read more
