Topfield TBF-7200

How to repair remote controller – This STB has done a good job for me for 2 yrs, still does, but the remote failed recently. Problem was batteries-to-PCB wiring. Topfield needed to use wire hard enough to act as a spring contact but their bends are are too sharp resulting in eventual wire fracture, ie, no power to PCB. Fix is not difficult for any amateur with a suitable soldering iron, just rejoin broken wire with a copper wire bridge, approx 4cm loop for ease of assembly. The spring wire accepts solder. No need to cut the spring wire. Upper & lower halves of case simply pry apart with a little brutality plus couple of screwdrivers, remove batteries first.
No longer on sale, but I am guessing mine is not the only Topfield remote controller to die, so maybe this note will be of use to others. Does the job. Just the remote controller failure, which is now fixed.
Disappointed – This set top box has given us trouble from early on. The time will not set, seems to be a regular problem after speacking with topfield. They are happy to fix it, but means we are without it from a long period of time. It freezes and you can not change channels. Only way to fix this is to turn it off and restart it. This happens often and is annoying. It pixilates and the picture freezes and breakes up often. We have a HD TV in another room which when compared is not freezing etc. We have tried all kinds of boosters and HD Cables but still no change.
Runs at a very high temperature, very hot to touch. Can't set clock, picture freezes as do channels.
