Toshiba BDX1200

Brilliant Buy if you don't care about 3D – The BDX1200KY was on sale for $88. I read on forums that it is region free DVD and manually region selectable blu-ray (ie it will play any region). Generally reviewed well, so why not? There is a DVD with a firmware upgrade in the box, with clear instructions, that makes it region free/selectable, and it works a charm on the few disks I tried (regions 1 and 4, A and B). Picture quality is very good, function is quite sufficient for watching movies, and audio pass through is high quality. The similar 3200 product adds 3D and a few "toys". I don't worry about mp3, jpgs, etc as I use other devices for those. How many devices does one need to watch youtube and play music, etc? Having those already, this product is one you should not pass by, especially at the sale price. It might be getting superseded already, or not. You can spend $hundreds to $thousands on ebay for a hacked region free blu-ray, or get this for a fraction.
Downside is that it is a small and very light unit. Just pushing the buttons can push the unit about. It is small enough so there are not so many more weighty AV things you can put on top to weight it down. Using a light touch, and it is ok.
Very happy with it. Region Free DVD and Blu-ray! Good picture and audio quality to a Home Entertainment System Light weight. Just pushing the buttons can push the unit.
Excellent for the price! – I picked one of these up at Harvey Norman for $94. It is currently on sale for $88. Get one you will not be disappointed! It does what it is supposed to do, and nothing much else. No frills, just a cheap Blu-ray player that works really well. Note this is not a 3D player, but who cares!? A nice touch is the "Regza link" that talks to my Toshiba tv. Another great feature is that it comes with an HDMI cable in the box. Good one Toshiba!! The other manufacturers should follow suit on this point. Cheap and seems to do what it is supposed to do, plus comes with HDMI lead. Very light unit. Just pressing the "open" button on the front panel moves the player. Needs rubber feet.
