Toshiba HDD-J35

Terrible – even though I was able to send the unit back for repairs at no cost I found the unit too unreliable to be of any use as it has spent more time in transit than at my house. basically the biggest heap of junk I ever spent my money on. I will never ever buy a Toshiba audio/video product again. good when it's working keeps freezing despite being sent back many, many, many times. had had many other probs - losing channels from memory etc. I believe that the unit operates at too high a temperature!! Fire risk!

Bad – Wouldn't buy one again. Will check user interface on any new devices for High Definition. Forgive me, but I use an Apple Mac and I'm spoiled with a better human interface! I'm stuck with it for now as I cant get back the $ I put into it! Occasional Freezing (usually when selecting ABC channel) Poor on screen characters & menus considering its for use with high definition. The remote control is pathetic to use. Have to press button several times & hard to get response.

Good – I have been using the Toshiba HDD-J35 to record regular TV shows since November 2005. Since installing it has generally worked flawlessly and would now not be without it. Maybe I have been lucky (I have never had a software or firmware upgrade needed) or the many who seem to have a lot of trouble are doing something wrong or not following the instructions for installation & usage. Superb images. "Set & forget" recording ability. Generally hassle-free. Occasional minor glitches only that seem to correct themselves.

Terrible – It has been a hard lesson in buying the first of a new product. Toshiba now taking it back to "repair" or replace. I don't really want either! I'd like my money back. The original idea! Almost everything. Nonstop hassles inc freezing, erratic response to remote. Naming of recorded content difficult.
