The Toshiba Satellite L10-B is upgradable – It comes with 2Gb memory and 500Gb HDD. Being a electronics and computer enthusiast I managed to upgrade the memory to 8Gb and replaced the HDD with a 450Gb SSD, installed Linux Mint and works great on the go. You will need a butane powered soldering tool with a blowtorch attachment but a fun thing to do. Also a multimeter comes in very handy :)

Works well, but extremely delicate – Hardware and software for a laptop this size is adequate, have had very few issues at all in that regard. The quality of the case however is rubbish, within 3 months since taking it out the box one of the screws that holds the screen and hinge together came loose. we took it in and the screw got put back in with a little loctite. 4 months after… Read more

that the screw completely pops out and damages the thread on the way - took it to the authorised repairer and apparently it isnt covered anyway and we would be up for around $600 to replace the entire screen...

I've been more than happy with my toshiba products and their service but i really think trusting a tiny little screw to not only hold the screen together but deal with the torque of opening and closing the screen is a little silly. This wouldnt stop me buying another toshiba, but not one of these.

Toshiba - Rethink buying again – My complaint is regarding another faulty Toshiba laptop but more about what Toshiba Australia have changed and why buying a Toshiba laptop should be very low on any shopping list. Toshiba like all manufacturers dont supply and software and manuals etc. All can be downloaded right ? Drivers and software that fails...Thats what everyone does. And… Read more

its what Toshiba USED to do.

Now the website basically sucks and downloads are few and far between. No manuals, not many drivers and frankly leaves a unsupported product. No network drivers, touchpad drivers (for dodgy Synaptics touchpads that all seem to fail when a mouse is plugged in) - pretty much nothing. My other Toshiba i bought 4 months ago had 50+ software items available and now there are four....I hope nothing goes wrong Toshiba have now made all products disposable. I would never have bought either knowing they would shut down their support services. . And after 30 days you cant register a product for support. Big Fail Toshiba.

My last Toshiba is my last.

Nice Small Laptop – I recently purchased this laptop. Its a nice little one, battery life is pretty good. Drawbacks are that you can't upgrade the RAM and you are stuck with 2G. Also when you first get it; it is full of startup stuff that slows it down on windows 8. After you get rid of those its speed is ok. Overall its a nice laptop if you are looking for lightweight and budget friendly device.

Toshiba Satelite L10 b003 is great for $250 Jan 2015 – When compared to $1500 notebooks this is 2 to 3/10 but at $250/$300 this thing is 9 to 10/10. The spes are low and the 2G RAM is very disappointing but It was $100 to $150 more before I could find any computer that started to make any real improvement on this one. You would be looking at $600 before you really start to out class this one. It… Read more

will be fine for the internet, Microsoft office and storing some photos and music(listening with headphones, the speakers are OK but most note book speakers are not my first choice). This will not do anything but the most basic games or photo editing.

To run at its best you will need to remove the bloat ware and programs you do not need. Don't worry if you find you need some of these things later, you can download them when you do, most of the stuff is trail or free ware or you can find better ones that are free. On top of that, If you feel you have gone to far you can factory reset in the recovery section and you will have everything you started with again.

I suggest looking at tech sites and youtube for laptop/windows optimisation. Tek syndicate on youtube have a good one for what to do with a new notebook. The information you find will apply for most notebooks.

I brought this laptop to be a mobile media Pc between two dumb TVs and for the kids to watch movies on the go. It is fine working through hdmi to the tv, no problems with streaming iview and the others and does 1080p on youtube to the tv no problems at all.

A little disappointing- cant upgrade ram or change battery – I upgraded a asus eee with 1ghzx1 intel atom 2gb ram win7 with this toshiba L10 b003 2 gb ram dual core intel celeron win8.1. Overall its a nice little notebook, Quite thin, lightweight solid feeling, nice keyboard looks nice, good solid power plug, good resolution a screen picture. performance is disappointing however. The RAM hard disk and… Read more

processor easily max out and then it runs slugish or seizes up for a few seconds every minute or so. (ive also done all the windows updates.) About 6 tabs open on google is enough to start this, say while updating windows, but even just google if the internet sites are hungry enough.

My opinion is that 2GB doesnt seem to be enough to run all the extra rubbish that windows 8 runs. The hard disk seems inadequate, I dont remember having issues with this before and the processor seems to struggle often. The asus eee, although slower to start programs etc seems to be able to run a lot more stuff before having issues, like maybe 20 tabs open.

The worst thing is you cant do anything about it. The RAM is not upgradeable- theres no cover to open to upgrade the RAM. Also, the battery cant be changed either. so when the battery is gone, the whole thing is.. maybe its possible by pulling the whole thing to pieces..

Also windows 8.1 is fairly poor too, there seems little benefit, instead of the start bar it opens an annoying screen where you cant find anything and have to use the search. The seem to be trying to be more like google/android. You can download and run aps instead of accessing via google, but its slower to get to the ap, slower to run, its faster to just use chrome and google. Other programs have to be pinned to the task bar in order to find them again. I have to say, the writing is on the wall for microsoft, google is really out doing them, I'll be using Google OS when its ready to replace windows

Also you can't upgrade the ram of you pull it apart. It's part of the main board.

Good – I could not find my model listed on this site so apologies. I have a Toshiba Satellite L510. The main reason I'm writing this review is about Toshiba Mobile Care Warranty Service which I found absolutely appalling. Thank god I didn't spend too much on this purchase otherwise I'd be writing more furiously! Product is pretty good but it's all… Read more

down to the aftercare service that is offered that makes the difference. Good value for money - less than $800 AUD (bought in NZ for $1000NZD)

Small compact and simple - no schmancy flight by night features - this laptop replaced a HP which my ex trod on whilst in a drunken stupor.

Ease of use - keyboard is user friendly.

Built in web camera Laptop speakers are inadequate and have too much treble.

Windows 7 just as bad as Vista with the errors/circle thinking icon.

Web Camera software is a bit of a princess and frequently goes "missing" from the desktop.

After-care Warranty Service is the most unfriendly, computerised and beaurocratic service I've ever encountered.

One day I went to turn on my computer and just got a black backlit screen. I immediately knew the hard drive had gone so I attempted to contact "Toshiba Mobile Care" service in my state on their 1300 number. It was an answering machine stating "we are currently unavailable - please leave a message" so I did. No one returned my call. So I went to their online booking service and booked myself in (I think they prefer this in order to reduce their own HR costs)

Fair enough they arrange a courier to pick up your laptop from the address you supply however once it is picked up, it is not acknowledged as being received for almost 2 weeks!

I attempted several times to contact Toshiba on the 1300 number to determine what stage of repair my laptop was at. 4 weeks later I was really getting frustrated and attempted to contact them again only to get the same answering machine message.

I received a text message from them stating my repair had been completed and would be sent back via courier. Assuming it was the same one they used to pick up my laptop (DHL) I contacted DHL after hearing nothing from Toshiba Mobile Care about how my laptop was to make it's way back to me. They did not appear to have any bookings in their system so I just had to sit there and lump it. Then, I received an AAE card from the Post Office to pick up a parcel. It was my laptop. The whole process took 6 weeks. I would recommend planning for an alternative means of accessing emails/programs etc as they take an extremely long period of time to fix a relatively easy fix (hard drive replacement)
