Bad to reasonable. There are a lot better options out there – I bought this in 2014 at Boxing Day Sales for about $800 from Myer. When I took it home I found out it had a refurbished motherboard in it. It was terribly slow with Windows 8 so I removed that and installed Linux. makes it usable. I've used it for playing games with the NVidia graphics card, programming, and other day to day stuff with the onboard graphics. This computer is hamstrung by the lack of memory (only 4GB) and the lack of an SSD. I am not going to spend money upgrading them as I'd rather just buy a new one. Would not recommend it unless you either a) upgrade the RAM to at least 8GB and put an SSD in it, and / or b) put Linux on it.

What you on about? – I've got the l50 a 006. Had it since mid 2013. Sure, it had its quirks here and there. Definitely needed to be downgraded to win 7 to perform well. But here it is in 2016, going harder than ever, playing fallout 4 no qualms. Don't blame the tool, blame your inability to use it correctly.

Good enough for what I want – I have found this model to be perfectly suitable and capable for my requirements, which is reasonably basic. The only problem I have is that the battery has died and I need to get another one. I purchased the laptop in Sep 2013. I have found the new Windows 10 is also more stable and rarely have problems on the net now.

Made to not last – Hi ive had a toshiba Satellite l500. Its lasted about 2 years then started continually over heating. I have cleaned out the fan many times but the overheating does not take long to start up agian. Its only built to last 2 years then they go to crap. faulty and my hard drive suspect. Was going to cost $350 and then only 3 to 6 months warranty on fixing it. I would not have purchased the laptop and spent $1000 or so if I had only known it wasn't even going to last the distance. It was bought as a replacement for Acer in our business. Guess what? I am now using the Acer Aspire after all. It always happens to break down when I am about to GST online!! My way of thinking now is to buy a cheap computer that will do the job. More expensive does not mean better!!

HD sucks – After about 16 months my hard drive was on the way out - runs slower than my Dell did before I replaced with this machine. Purchased the Harvey Norman extended warranty but they said I had to send my machine in, would take 3-4 weeks. My work machine so that was obviously a waste of money. Smooth computer but battery is bad, andcant connect to wiFi after a year of use – The computer runs smoothly, but after one year of semi -light usage e.g. school. Storage is great but the battery is not. The battery only lasts < an hour , and laptop is unable to connect to wiFi due to a software issue. Terrible – My L50 B came as an insurance replacement for the previous model and it has been terrible. I had the hinges replaced twice(under warranty but only because the tech knew how to word it otherwise it's not covered!!!), the screen replaced, and now one of the keys has flicked off and it's $$$ to get it fixed. approx 6 mins to open and yes! it has been cleaned and serviced numerous times. We've had different model toshiba for years, would be hesitant to go back if this is the flimsy lacking machines that are now on offer for the same price range.

A good laptop, but nothing special – I've had my L-50B Satellite for 2 years. It was a replacement for a superior model, but this one seems to run more efficiently. to load, but I could upgrade to 8GB of RAM to make life easier. Large games, like the latest Sim City, are impossible to play, but it seems to handle Far Cry 3 and Fallout New Vegas on low settings. I do like the sound and it's quite enjoyable to listen to music and watch videos with. Battery life is short and drains fast. It's not noisy and doesn't over-heat. The hinges for my screen are loose and out of position, which is disappointing. Screen resolution won't bother some, but they're under par for me.

So, if you come across this laptop for a reasonable price (perhaps around $600?), and it's going to sit on a desk and be used occassionally, then I would recommend this product. But, for those who care about any of the things aforementioned, keep looking.

shrinks without me touching anything; sometimes ... ... Space Bar doesn't react to my right thumb???, so have had to start using my left; Screen freezes and often disconnects from the internet. After closing the lid, when computer has been set up to sleep, I've then found has been on and flat when I needed to use it; plus other annoying issues, but these are the worst of them- So frustrating. The biggest issue was that the hard drive was stuffed having corrupted sectors which would not allow the computer to startup. This was barely 1 month after the warranty ran out.

I purchased this computer because I previously owned Toshiba products and considered Toshiba to be the best. I deliberately steered away from the cheap ones that would fall apart and break down but I paid top dollar for having the same privilege.

Terrible – I bought this, seemed pretty good. Until later that day I realised it couldn't even run basic games on the lowest setting, already not for gaming. Then it keeps freezing and won't bloody stop, do not buy this, I'd rather a potato for gaming. The charger isn't real good either, last Toshiba I had its charger bloody broke and the inside part.

Beware of this – This is a DISASTER. laptop mouse is terrible, hard to control. Windows shutting themselves down, zoom on internet has its own life, most movies don't play, freezes all the time and I have only had it for a couple of months. I bought this laptop as it was the lightest available through my work but it has been such a disappointment.

The worst laptop ever!! – Right from the first time of use, wouldn't load go pro videos. Freezing constantly. constant 40 minute upgrades when turning on and then again when shutting down. Couldn't load Office. Sent to toshiba service centre but still not fixed. 15 months later, today I received a replacement (not Toshiba) from JB Hi Fi, who were outstanding in their service.

Runs well; Pain in the neck – I have been using this model for the last year and a half as I bought it for a school work device. quite cool under heavy loads so well done on that front. I have noticed however that the HDD is an extremely limiting factor in this system as well as the low RAM (I added 16GB of extra in and it multitasks well). Now for the bad stuff. The plastic construction of the device makes it a bit flimsy and cheap to look at the screen has WAY too much flex and bounces all around the place. The trackpad although easy to use has a very sub par click. The sound quality of the internal speakers are not bad if you are the only one sitting in front of it however they are not loud at all. The last straw for me is the battery life. As I said earlier, i have had this for 1.5 years now and the battery has just packed it in. The general battery life was never amazing I new that however for it to completely pack it up in this time is a bit ridiculous. If I knew about this I would have spent some more money and custom built me a desktop. SOFTWARE, this machine has given me many headaches trying to understand and fix why drivers stop working and operating systems don't connect and why DTS sound will not launch.

To conclude,

This is a solid machine when you look at the specs on paper however the general bugs and problems are actually more pain than it is worth. So, I would NOT recommend this laptop however if you can look past the bugs it is quite good.

Worst product I ever bought – I was lucky that it worked for 1 year (it still lost connection every 10 minutes) I was satisfied. normally for 1 year and all of a sudden nothing. Also the updates in Tempro are no longer showing the windows updates are malfunctioning. I went to the shop I bought it from and they send it back to toshiba that they said is perfectly fine (it isn't). Never buy this product (unless you want it as a gift for your enemies).

The one star rating is there because I had to click something, not because I think it warrants one – It's an L50-A I didn't know what a HEADACHE was until I purchased this machine. consider it cheap. After going back and forth to the agent/dealer to get it repaired on a monthly basis (sometimes weekly) for 22 of the 24 months it is finally working, but the battery which has been used maybe 6 or 7 times is now kaput and as it's not accessible I will have to pay yet another tech bill ($65) before they even take the bottom off. I might also add that the phone calls I have made to Toshiba have been less than useless and my emails unanswered.

I'm now on a pension and have to make do otherwise this thing would be hurled as far as I could fling it.

This model is a dud! – I returned the first one after a month as the right click didn't work and I would get a blue screen any time I watched You Tube or listened to audio. Second model also crashes constantly and drops off the net randomly. Harvey Norman said return as hardware issue and that they have had similar problems with others.

I did think this laptop had great potential, as the graphics and sound output were of really high quality, and I loved all that memory... but no, it just is a fundamentally dodgy machine I'm afraid.

When I first run this pc I noticed how it has no scroll feature on the mouse pad either that or it just isn't functional. (Huge deal breaker that) and much to my huge disappointment I noticed how weak the sound output was in the external sound source and how cheap and extreme low quality the sound is when played through even the highest quality sound system which I still do daily with my HP because this TOSHIBA makes me mad it gives me chill up and down my spine to listen to how $2 Chinese radio it sounds like when played through a hi-fi device. I returned my Toshiba to Dick Smith 2 days after I bought it who argued that the issues I presented were not major defects so therefore I wasn't entitled to a refund. I was even denied a refund when this pile of junk was returned for repairs for a faulty hard drive and a faulty recharge socket. I have had this piece of JUNK now 6 months and have hardly used it because I hate it with a passion. I am so so so very very unhappy and unsatisfied with my purchased and feel like I have been taken advantage of by DICK SMITH GREENHILLS for advising and selling me this piece of crap.

I could not select a lower enough score for this huge waste of my time and my money for either Dick Smith or Toshiba itself. And I would rate this purchase as the worst purchase and biggest purchase regret of my life.

bad bad bad – This laptop has nothing going for it it is slow and very noisy when you turn it on. i have had mine for eight months now and one of the keys don't work. It doesn't look nice as it is very chunky and the keys are very large. i wouldnt waste my money again and don't recommend it.

Toshiba laptop – Worse computer ever. Lasted 6 days. When we opened the top cracked screen appeared. Contacted Toshiba explained nothing done to it by us. They created a case number will keep everyone posted. Manufacturer fault and I hope they will admit it. Wasted $863 at JBi Hi Fi who we not helpful too. Never buy again from JBiHi Fi terrible Customer care and never ever Toshiba.

Serious bugs! – I have had this computer for 18 months and has been nothing but frustrations!! Bought it from the GOOD GUYS and wasted $1000. The video player keeps getting bugs and I have not had a good solid run from the internet driver without it dropping out! Gets hot or something!! Gets bugs and needs refreshing regularly. Not good enough for the proclaimed power and price!!

14 days, returned, refunded – Had poor battery life, upon turning it on the screen would flicker and would have to turn it on and off again several times the unit would produce and imagine. Either way Dick Smith refunded my money, this all happen within 2 weeks of buying, waste of time.

cursor has been 'turned off' by hitting F5 when putting the laptop aside, windows 8 menu keeps popping up, its just been painful.

I've also had many issues with the unit freezing. The only support I have been offered is to make sure I am doing the updates.... not good enough.

Surprised – bought this laptop 3 months ago, very good wasn't quite sure if I liked the set up of having window tiles but I likey, no problems easy to use . comes with AMD for games intel corei5 windows 8.1 with free windows 10 upgrade , liking the 8.1 windows. good value for money I think.

No problems with mine – Only bought this "2nd hand" machine 12 weeks ago and have been playing numerous games (Battlefield 2, 3, 4 and 5, Call of Duty Advanced Warfare, etc.) with graphics maxed out, not a problem, smooth as silk play...Maybe you just purchased "DUDs" Only upgrade I've done was 2x 8Gb ram chips (16Gb total). Possibly the worst thing that I own/have ever purchased – I have had my laptop for just under a year, this ia actually the second one as I retuned the first one within a few weeks thinking that it was faulty - nope they are just that bad. I need a good computer for work and can't justify the cost of a new one. I don't write this flippantly, I have really tried everything my It savvy friends have advised and still the machine is so slow and clunky. Had enough! It does have a great battery life though.
