Oldy but a goody laptop upgraded to Win10 pro - amazing still runs great – With the closing of the free win10 upgrade from win7 I followed the procedure to upgrade in place. However something caused problems and this failed several times. So then noting down the certificate number I did a clean install. Wow it still runs great (as it should. Windows 10 pro 64bit.) As expected with an I7 and 1TB SSD with 4G memory its… Read more

flies like a bird. Only problem has been the lid closing power totally off problem even with Root usb power control disabled but this was a known problem even in windows 7. So was it worth the upgrade, yes definitely.

Display is limited to 16" 1368 screen. so no 1920. No internal bluetooth. Only 2.4G wifi but boy that goes well and of course has a good range over 5G. No back lit keyboard. Battery only ever worked for about 2-3 hours even when new so 99% of the time its used on mains. So performance wise it is still up there with the latest even though it lacks some hardware features.

Excellent, Inexpensive, Reliable! – I bought this laptop for around $650 from Dick Smith as a i needed a good laptop to write up all my TAFE assignments, to be able to use Photoshop, to watch movies and to store lots of data. Its light and fairly portable as its not bulky and has a good battery life (around 4 hours). It also has a large range of features and extras and can run many… Read more

programs at once like a dream. The only problem i have with this laptop is that the graphics card is faulty and cannot be fixed. 1 terabyte hard-drive, energy efficient, reliable, inexpensive, Faulty graphics card

Wolf in sheep's clothing – I got the L850-01R for the discounted price of $800 (as a replacement for my Acer notebook after the HDD died), and it looked like a pretty standard business laptop, sleek but functional. When I began using it, I was very impressed with the speed of the Intel Core i7 processor and the 2GB AMD graphics card, which allowed me to use programs such as… Read more

Google Sketchup and Blender without any fuss. If you are looking for a budget gaming computer, this ticks all the boxes, being able to comfortably run games as long as the graphics/resolution are set at mid or lower. That's not to say this doesn't have niggles though, chief among which is the keyboard. It feels plasticy, isn't backlit (which came as a surprise, this being a decent notebook) and is cramped and awkward to use. The HDD is a bit of a dinosaur, which does get annoying as you wait for your files to transfer. Altogether, this is a great laptop, and I am extremely pleased that I got this for the price they were asking. The looks, the powerful processor/graphics chip, a good all-rounder Slow HDD, flimsy, cramped keyboard, screen has huge amounts of glare

Very Nice in Almost Everything – I got this after my previous HP Pavilion dv7 started playing up. My dad bought it and after having it for a week I can say it is a very nice laptop. It has reasonably good gaming compatibilities. I can run PlanetSide to on around medium setting and get 30fps. My only bad point about this product is the keyboard is not the easiest to use. I am… Read more

tapping quite hard to make sure I get the letters. It has a good look being white. A nice mousepad and weight. I have seen some things about the speakers being not that good of quality but I think they are perfect for what I use them for. Good gaming, weight, look, hardware Keyboard

Great product at cheap price – I got it at discounted price of $645. Overall its best product with light and slim design (not bulky). It hold battery awsome in Eco Mode. superb graphics ATI 7670m runs almost all applications and games. Display is well balanced in contrast and side views. keyboard is slightly plasticy feel comparing to my previous Lenovo Ideapad Z570. size, weight, battery and looks. keyboard plasticy feel not solid. Show reply

Disgraceful pile of rubbish! – I had an old Toshiba Satellite many years back and swore off them as a design flaw meant after transporting it I would need to open it up and reseat the video card to prevent various BSODs. After 5 years, I decided I would give them another try after I picked this up for a bargain price. Since having it, it has already returned to the repair shop… Read more

once under warranty for a wireless card that would crash when uploading >3 GB over the wireless. When this crashed it took out the bluetooth, so no worries, just restart the wireless! Wrong, this results in the wireless no longer recognised in device manager. Fine, I uninstall the drivers for the wireless and give the computer a reboot. It detects the wireless, I direct it to the factory drivers on the hard drive, but these aren't compatible with the wireless card. So I find 3rd party drivers for it from the cards manufacturers website. These work, but still no bluetooth. I send this entire thing to Toshiba support. They tell me to turn it off and on again. I explain that I've tried that, I've uninstalled and reinstalled drivers to try and get this working, and still nothing works. At their behest it gets returned under warranty to Toshiba Service Centre. They replace the hard drive citing corrupted HDD, nothing more.

Now only a few weeks later it contains numerous bad sectors and fails a booting CHKDSK.

It doesn't get abused, it goes to work and returns home with me. There are no games installed, and it sits permanently on a cooling mat for any times I do anything too computationally intensive.

The thing is a lemon. Maybe this isn't a fair review and I have the one bad computer in the batch but, jesus, it's frustrating. Cheap, relatively portable, good chipset. Failing wireless, failing HDD, Toshiba Warranty don't care/don't read reports filed, keyboard feels flimsy under hand.

Great value system with plenty of power – The Toshiba Satellite L850 is a great system for the price. Plenty of power, full size keyboard and large touchpad for the mouse. Come complete with all the main things you need out of a laptop (wifi, generous size hard drive, i5 processor with plenty of power, 4GB of ram, bluetooth) Easy to upgrade to 8GB of RAM (additional 4GB RAM module… Read more ·  1

available on the Toshiba website for you to purchase, instructions in the manual on how to install without voiding your warrenty)

Speaker are fair quality. This laptop has 3 USB ports (2x 3.0 USB and 1x 2.0 USB) plus HDMI, ethernet port and a port for an external monitor/projector. The included battery is a 6-cell, however you can purchase the bigger 9-cell from the Toshiba website. Great price, plenty of features, solid keyboard Not so much wrong but would have been nice to have a backlit keyboard

The keyboard will drive you insane! – I bought this as a substitute for my 3 year old Sony Vaio, and I feel like I've downgraded. I use my laptop for both work and personal use, and after a month, it has become abundantly clear that this is an inferior product due to the following reasons: 1. the screen resolution is bad; 2. it's stated RAM and dual/quad core processing is slow,… Read more

flipping between spreadsheets has proven to lag significantly;

3. The function keys are the opposite to every other keyboard out there. That is, instead of you needing to press the 'FN' key plus the various function key to perform a shortcut, it is permanently set on the shortcut and you need to press the "FN" key to get the standard function.

I use Excel quite a fair bit, and rely on using the F2 button to enter a cell regularly, and this flip of the basic keyboard function has proven to be the biggest annoying downfall of this laptop. The F2 button is one of the most used by people, whether we know it or not, and the longer I have this laptop, the more annoyed i am. It's pretty bad display resolution, horrible keyboard configuration, slow processing unit

In the Bios you can change the Function key settings, so F1-F12 work as normal.
