Yamaha XV1700 Roadstar Warrior

A capable unique cruiser – I've purchased this bike as my first ever cruiser. I have owned a number of sportsbikes and naked bikes and ridden lots more. There was always something about the Warrior that intrigued me. The alloy frame and cast alloy wheels mixed with proper radial tyres, radial brakes and R1 derived suspension set it up to be a bit more special than your… Read more
average cruiser.
Its light for an open size cruiser and it feels it. It tips into corners with ease and holds its line well. It handles well enough that it will encourage you to push it hard.. at which point you will run out of clearance. But by then you'll be streets ahead of all but the best modern cruisers.
The brakes are solid but they are still working against a lot of weight.
The engine is great. The sound is good even with the stock pipe. With the Cobra Swept exhaust and no baffles the sound is monstrous. Its deafening and so deep you can feel it as much as hear it.
The power is not at all comparable to a sportsbike so don't be mislead by anyone saying it is. That said, it has heaps of grunt, with torque and acceleration available everywhere. Im enjoying the difference as it doesn't encourage stupid high speeds but it does encourage fun antics in getting there. It launches hard and its near foolproof. Cold tyres or too much aggression will have the rear spinning which is fun and different to the sportsbike propensity for sending the front skyward. Its fast enough to have fun.
One of the biggest thing with these bikes is the community of other Warrior owners. I haven't ever experienced a community like it before.
Whilst i want another sportsbike this is the first bike I've owned that i don't want to replace but rather I want to keep it and complement it with another bike. People keep these bikes forever and so many people on the forum have multiple Warriors or have sold one only to buy another. There's something different about them.
Do yourself a favour and ride one.
Unique, absolutely enjoyable and beautiful bike! – This is my first MC in 30 years. I grew up riding a 125 dirt bike, then a Honda CB 450 twin in high school, then the first superbike... the Honda CB 750 followed by the first gen Suzuki GSXR 750. 30 years later and I'm riding the Warrior. I was nervous that the Warrior would be too big, too heavy, and/or too much to manage, i.e., handling,… Read more
braking, acceleration. After a quick test ride around the block in a residential area, only getting into 3rd gear, I realized the bike was very manageable. The power is very controllable, the handling is nimble, and the braking is very controllable! I love this bike!
I love the seating position, (I am 5'9" and I will at some point get some pull-back bar risers to make the reach more comfortable. An inch or two more pull-back would make a big difference I think).
I love the looks and the sound... mine is the blue with silver flames, stock exhaust.
I would not recommend such a powerful and heavy bike for a beginner though. Although I have taken to this bike very quickly, I do have many thousands of miles riding MCs in my youth and thousands of hours riding and racing mountain bikes and cyclocross bikes (currently) - each which require advanced bike handling skills... skills that I find to be very transferable to motorcycle riding... especially as it pertains to cornering skills (entry speed), general speed management and braking.
A beast of a bike, exhilarating to ride. Absolutely love it – A laid-back cruiser this isn't. The handling of the R1 front-end, the hunched-forward seating position, better clearance in corners, and that thumping 1,670cc V-twin make for some thrilling riding. Mine's a 2002 daily rider with few modifications: Vance & Hines Big Shots exhaust, K&N air filter, Power Commander with custom map. This bike… Read more · 2
spits, gurgles, barks and pops like there's a demon inside waiting to get out. And when you open the throttle, out it comes, and with a vengeance. The acceleration is so strong and effortless you only realise it when you are keeping up with a sport bike taking off from the lights.
This is the perfect bike for a taller rider (I'm 6'4") and I'll be keeping it for a long time.
They don't make these anymore. Get a good used one while you can. Precise handling, killer sound (with aftermarket pipes), badass looks, engine with heaps of torque, sheer presence Fuel tank ridiculously small, poor fuel economy, engine inaccessible, stock water heater exhaust needs to go
Good – This bike performs well, I have completed 5 trips of more than 700 miles & it just keeps purring along. With the big 102 cubes it has the pulling power to pull your old lady as well so there is not a problem with it going 2 up. For the price you pay compared to a new Harley this bike wins hands down check out what this bike offers from stock… Read more
compare it to a Harley you will be surprized. You will find out that you have fork out a few dollars of your hard earned bucks to catch up with this bike. Good all round tourer. Traded a Harley for 1 have not looked back. This bike offers the rider everything. Good brakes all round, excellent pick up with direct fuel injection. Custom paint job from the factory. No problems to do a 500 mile stint on this machine & go for more. The only fault that I can find is the handlebars too wide & they sit too far forwarded. This can be rectified with a set of 2inch risers with 2 inch pull back. Change bars to suit your style.
Excellent – It is worth the money for a powerful bike like this one. It is quiet pricy but it is worth it. Gotta love the looks, the feel, the power and the joy of having this bike. You can regret not having this bike. it is one of the best bikes you can ever get!!! i would rate this bike a 5/5 This yamaha roadstar warrior motorcycle has a very cool design.… Read more
This is one powerful bike. It would suit any rider that would ride the bike. It has a very nice color which is a custom color straight from the factory. It has good handling when tackling the sharp corners. The prices for the accessories is expensive. Other then that it is perfect.
Excellent – A great cruiser i recommend to all. It has the power, handling and style to boot. Fun to play on and play with. If you take off the muffler it sound great. it will turn heads evey time you drive by. The Bike has a Grate look with the 200 in the rear and sleek lines. The throttle is very responsive and corners better then my Honda VFR 750. plus… Read more
ther are tons of easy upgrades out there. The idle is a little low but the was an easy fix. Ugly muffler but who keeps the stock pipes anyways?
Excellent – A machine that can take up to 3 months rideing before it reveals its magic to you,its one of the sexiest bikes I,ve ever had the pleasure to mount. Unfortunatley it spoils you and rideing other machines now leaves me a little uninspired,................20 mins on this baby and you know your alive, and your ready to take on the world.(No wonder… Read more
its called "Warrior" The main feeling this machine allows me to access is pure "joy"...
Handles, its powerful and precise. Pillion seat and peg positioning prevents me shareing the experience with another for any length of time, although at times this can be a good thing.
Rear brakes cook and fade pretty easily on hard rideing though the twisties, got to watch that one, occours all of a sudden..
Excellent – I have a 2007 Warrior in Sapphire Blue with Liquid Silver Flames. This bike is awesome, power and acceleration are unbelieveable. I came from a Z1000 sports bike so was really pleased with the performance. I believe here that Yamaha have built a perfect machine. I'm 6'2" and the handlebars and pegs are positioned perfect for me. If you are… Read more
shorter then maybe you would need to think about some risers and pullback for the bars. My advice would be to go buy on now, you will not regret it. I am able to hang with my sports bike friends in the twisties no problem. They get real pissed when they can't shake me off ! Power, Styling, Handling, Comfort No good for a passenger, maybe that's a plus though !
Excellent – Grew up riding motorcross and last 3 years riding a Z-1000 kawasaki sport bike. I was amazed and could not wipe the smile off my face the first time I took the Warrior through the mountain pass I have ridden religiously on my Z-1000. I know this mountain pass like the back of my hand and have to say that the Warrior's overall speed and… Read more
confidence in most corners was very close to what I maintain on my Z-1000. This is a wonderful machine that is a joy to ride. Once you have dialed in your seating/control preferences this bike gives you lots of confidence in the twisties. Feels heavy when moving bike around at parking lot speed, but then Feels very agile and much lighter once up to speed and carving
the canyons. I was nervous about the size right before I purchased it, but then the first mile of riding wiped away every skepticism I had about this bike. I could not wipe the smile off my face ;^) Massive torque and power, great exhaust sound, wonderful smooth motor, amazing handling for a big bike and can flick into the corners, awesome front brakes. Beautiful styling. expensive accessories, stock seat not very comfortable and not enough support for short riders 5 ft 6 inches to 5 ft 8 inches. Under hard accelleration you slide back in seat and legs/arms feel stretched. Long freeway rides can become uncomfortable for short riders. New or modified seat to help keep body forward makes huge difference in comfort.. Pegs scrape a lot on tighter sweeping corners, but still much better than most cruisers.
Excellent – had mine since new 6 years ago been all over europe ultra reliable leaves harley twin cams for dead, holds the road like a sports bike stops brilliantly, never rode a bike like it. unbeliveble tourqe ultra reliable, the coolest looking bike ever built standard exhaust(change it for a vance and hines +power commander)
Excellent – I have been riding for thirty years and it has to be the best allround bike I have owned.Pity the customer service sucks. It's quick, reliable, it stops and it handles brilliantly. Oh and it not a Harley!! it just eats them. The genuine accessories are way to expensive anbd their are no samples to view .You have to pay $1500 for a touring seat and if it doesn't suit it stiff. You own it.Very por response to enquiries. Show reply
