Stanley SXCM27550323 Nice unit - very quiet – Nice and quiet - it's not "silent" like a mouse breathing but it's much much quieter than a belt drive compressor - let alone a direct drive!. You would have no problem using… this in the middle of the night in suburbia. Fills reasonably quickly. For rrp you'd be relatively happy but if you get it for, say, half price at Supercheap then you just remember what a great buy it was! |

Westinghouse WSF6608XA It's okay – This replaced a Westinghouse WDF901, which failed due to the water heater packing up. First impressions were that, for the top Westinghouse model, it didn't have the internal… light, bottom rack had a mind of its own, top rack didn't run as nicely on its track and the cutlery tray was also a bit wobbly. The cutlery tray is a bit of a disaster zone as knives don't fit in "blades inwards" as the handles don't fit in those little gaps and if you put them in "blades outwards" they can sometimes slide backwards and drop through those big gaps in the middle of the tray. After use I found that the soap dispenser door was stiff and would sometimes not open fully (replaced under warranty). It's a bit noisier than my old one, has some mysterious clunks inside as it rinses (I've check there's no wobbling dishes) and some other ghostly noises when going about its business. I had some mysterious errors on the daily cycle for a while and when turning the unit on it very very infrequently thinks it needs to disregard the start button and start on the default cycle without being told to. The basic function - washing - works as expected. Things I put in there are already well scraped and I pretty much clean egg off things if it's on anything. I haven't noticed much difference with the drying function - things which retain heat will always dry themselves pretty well, it's plastic stuff which is always a bit hit-and-miss and I've not noticed the fan really do much with plastic dishes drying any better. The buttons are different on these new generation machines and require a much lighter touch. Some other people in my household have "butt dialled" the power button a few times. Overall it's an okay machine. I would not have liked to pay full rrp for it and I'm surprised that some of the good things with my old machine aren't on this new one (the light for example). If the drawers and the cutlery tray were like, say, the current Asko models, this Westinghouse would be a sensation. |

Hoover Gladiator Powerscrub Deluxe Really quite good - I've got a new hobby! – Based on the good reviews and sensational special price at Godfreys I bought on of these and by jingo I am pleased with it. The hand fittings and hose are very handy, it has a… decent length cord and the suction seems adequate to suck up most of the water. For stains I pre-soak with Agar non foaming detergent at a 1:4 dilution in a spray bottle, leave for a few minutes and give it a working over with the hand tool and hose. For general cleaning use the same Agar detergent in the tank. All the fittings go into a bag which clips onto the handle and it all comes apart for cleaning which is great. I wondered what the professional machines used and it seems not much more than the Hoover. They have onboard water heaters, larger tanks and probably greater suction but the Hoover simply uses hot water from your tap (easy!) and greater suction doesn't mean the carpets get that much cleaner as it is your water and detergent which does the work. So as you can probably guess, I'm pretty happy with my purchase. Well done Hoover! |

Westinghouse Stainless Steel WRF900CS Fairly poor performer and yes, the lights – Was installed in my house by builder. Looks good but was fairly noisy on number 3, which you need to use regularly as the suction is pretty weak. Then there's the dodgy lights,… blowing globes and tripping circuit breakers. The globe brightness was okay though. So yeah naah - not the best thing out there.... |

Electrolux UltraOne Great vac - get the non power head model for greater reliability – Very powerful and quiet vacuum which just about pulls the fibres out of the carpet. I lusted after the model with the powerhead and the remote control but ended up getting the… model below for just over $400 from Myer. It has the same body but just not the powerhead, the remote control or auto suction control. In practice I don't miss any of those features as the very strong suction, whisper quiet operation, easy rolling and the long cord are on the 21P. The handle is great and is easy to adjust it all simply clicks together easily. I tried a Dyson and it felt like it was made from lego and flimsy - the Electrolux is solidly built. A mate has an old version of the top model (with the remote etc) and it has been reliable for the time he has had it (10+ years). I just about look forward to vacuuming the place now! powerful, quiet - a pleasure to use. |
