What happens if, during an oil change, way too much oil is added back? Can excess oil icause oil leakage?

I have an 08 suzuki Boulevard c109rt with 76k runs great, it has no oil leaks at all but I'm losing oil. It doesn't smoke during startup or running down rode. Have always done maintenance and oil changes when needed.

I noticed after a few rides my low oil light came on so I topped it up, on next ride got to my destination and notice oil coming out of the left side air filter cover and oil splattered up the side. I then took out my dipstick and it poured a over the ground, I quickly got on and rode it straight home only to notice a large fuel consumption, does anyone have any advice on if it will be severely damaged? Did I mistake the full mark on dip stick? Or is an injector leaking fuel onto the oil?

This engine has a sump and hence the way you measure oil is different. You can watch the measuring technique here external link

Mate it sounds like you overfilled the the Bike with oil. The max amount of oil shouldn’t exceed 3.6 litres. The Bike has a dry sump so what that means is when you check the oil after putting in 3.6 litres it doesn’t show on the dipstick. Don’t overfill the motor & don’t worry about it was the oil is inside the motor & it’s not going anywhere….

I have a 2008 C109RT with ~15k and over the last several summers I have had a very intermittent starting problem. Once I turn the key on and raise the kickstand I'll hear the fuel pump come on and off and then push the start button and nothing will happen accept like a computer reset as the instrument cluster lights up and speedometer goes max and back to zero. Also, the clock resets. When this 1st started to happen I replaced the battery with no difference. The rectifier has been replaced per the recall 2 years ago. Like I said before this happens about as often as full moon. Thanks for any suggestions?

Tony, my 2008 c109r had exactly the same problem & it took me a long time to get the problem solved. I went through 3 batteries on my bike as the relay rectifier kept overcharging the batteries & burning the out. Mate you need to get a good technician to check out that relay rectifier & if need be replace it with a good quality one. Also at the same time replace your battery with a bigger amp to fire up that big motor. Once I got those two things done I never had one more problem with it. I hope this helps...

check your rectifier.there was a factory fault on certain models of c109r rectifier so your battery is not charging.suzuki ought to have informed their customers.

Whats the typical range (Klms) out of a tank of fuel?

Has anyone had issues with the fuel cap leaking when full?

chas44

The bike will leak from the cap if overfilled slightly. Average klms per tank depending on riding is 280kms city 340klms hwy. You will find a bit of clunking from 1st gear to 2nd can overcome this by two ways or both by putting pressure on gearstick and pulling in clutch and change. also adding moreys oil to your sump when next you change your oil.
