Bought a 2018 Touareg. Mechanics pre purchase inspection: “ Unable to get fans to spin to push out any air from vents at the time of the inspection. The heater and air conditioning are both not working.”
Thoughts?
Might be the ac air blower not working
Do all 2015 to 2018 Touaregs have air suspension? If not, how can you tell which has and which hasn't?
No, not all has air suspension, if it has then you will see the button for control of height on the center console
Can you use weight distribution bars on Touareg v6 steel coil rear suspension I am looking at about 2” lift with caravan hitched predominately highway use.
I have a Touareg and would not tow without one. Use upper spec Hayman Reece unit.
Just purchased a 2018 touareg 56000km in excellent condition first vw Had a genuine vw 3.5 t towbar fitted I want to tow my caravan and on hooking up The rear dropped a small amount has anybody fitted air bags and what effect on handling do they cause
Hi Bob. Depends on the ball weight of the van. Might need to get it measured, then load caravan accordingly. Talk to a 4WD specialist. My 2018 Touareg tows a 1200kg boat ok without air bags fitted, but only has a moderate ball weight and no impact on vehicle.
We have a 2011 Touareg with a 3.5tonne tow bar fitted. Ball weight is rated at 350kg. We tow a 3 tonne caravan and ball weight is usually around 250kg. We have a weight distribution hitch and the rear of the car drops around 3cm. We would love air suspension but it seems that the Touareg is not suffering because we have traveled around most of Australia across deserts, over mountains, along dirt tracks as well as freeways with no trouble at all.
Thanks for your reply my van appears to be of same weight i have also have a set of weight distribution bars but was not recommended by vw in cars manual What arę your thoughts on this statement ?
any one knows a fix for excessive fuel usage 2017 vw touarge tdi 180 exceptionable for 2 years to 30k fuel consumtion then started to climb had 7/lt-100 highway 8-9 arround town 90% of my driving is highway towing van 16- lt/100 now towing is 19/20 lt/100 had the water in air filter box have sorted that and stopped all the water ingress wondering if that had any bearing on fuel usage caused any damage to increase fuel useage have replaced mass air flow sensor air filters no better appreciate any insight some one might have ian hardman tas australia
Sorry no idea but your original usage spot on for the 2 7P Touaregs I have had
Test the upstream and downstream co2 sensors mine is doing the same and the exhaust fumes are foul.
thanks for response have not yet found the cause hope some one can put their finger on this meantime we just keep looking ian h
i have a 3.1 tone caravan im thinking of buying the v6 diesel touareg has anyone towed a heavy caravan with this car
I'm looking at buying one too. If you read all of these reviews, the Touareg apparently tows heavy loads very well.
I tow 3090 kg caravan for 5 years without issue.. it does it with ease. 2015 rline tdi v8
hi how does the v6 touareg tow a 3tone van is it worth buying
the v6 is great! the v8 is better
Hi there, I currently tow a horse float (1700kg including horse) with my 2011 Touareg however despite the weights being well within the capacity of the car and the tow ball, the float seems to bear down heavily on the back of the car and the front tyres appear to raise up a little, making the whole situation look unbalanced and unsafe. I am wondering with the “ride height” adjustment feature found in the boot on the newer Touaregs, will this improve if I’m able to raise the whole car up (ie raise tow ball) or will this exacerbate the issue? The horse float tows fine with higher tow balls for example on my friend’s BT50. Many thanks!
Hi your Touareg has a steel suspension..and not an air suspension..so it throws the car round more than the air suspension which balances up the car when towing. I tow a 2.5 tonne boat on mine..no issues. Perhaps lighten the tow all down weight if you can and that might help or adjust the tow all height.
Looking at purchasing the new Touareg 170TDI and would love to hear some advice.
I am sorry, cannot comment on the new model, I wrote concerning the car I currently drive and have done from new...which has been wonderful
Thank you Kim.
What’s the purpose of buying the Touareg? As a people-mover, you could choose better value (no 3rd row seats). But if you’re after a SUV that rides better than others in its class, you’re at the table. A bonus is that it tows up to 3.5 tonne, which shows the strength of its chassis & power train. Most important is that it needs to be serviced regularly by someone who knows them (preferably VW dealer). It is a fussy vehicle in terms of options, so it’s best to have them fitted at delivery, unless you have a friend who’s loving a challenge!
I have a 2019 Launch Edition 190kw, after 18 months & 20k klms.
Hi Ken. My husband and I are looking at doing some travelling within Queensland and although we have no intention of doing serious 4x4 but I have no doubt there’ll be dirt roads to travel. Keep reading horror experiences of parts that take several months to arrive, considering the cost I’d like to feel comfortable with spending it. Cheers
We have just bought a 2013 Toureg and a caravan does any one know about or have experience with raising the rear suspension.
hi there, just wondering about r line owners who tow a van please. have you had any problems weight wise? what size van and weight. thank you paul
I tow a Jayco Silverline 23' Caravan and weighs in at 3200kg. My 2016 V8 Touareg tows it easily and the fuel consumption is still pretty good, about 9lt per 100km. The best towing vehicle I have ever owned.
same car... 15-16 lt/100 I think you mean 9 empty
Hi all, I am looking to buy 2013 model, what is the maximum kilometres I should get before it's considered in a bad condition & things start to break & will need expensive fix? how many kays can this car do before it fails?
With proper & regular services, I’ve heard of the V6 TDI engines doing more than 400k klms. The main problem will be the DSG gearbox. Make sure you have that checked out professionally, as they (like all Euro vehicles) are an expensive fix. Same for brakes & wheel bearings. Personally, I wouldn’t buy one with 250k+ klms.
Thanks for your answer, the Touareg is the only vehicle from VW that didn't come with a dsg gear (dual clutch transmission). It came with a standard auto 8 gears. Cheers mate
Touareg has is not DSG has one of the finest transmission in the industry
Can you fit HR anti sway system to the Touareg? Thanks
Hi Geoff, I assume the 150 Touareg has not got air suspension. I had weight distribution bars and anti sway on my previous 2009 Touareg which did not have air suspension and it worked well. Volkswagen don’t recommend it for air suspension models. Cheers Ian
Unfortunately it does have air suspension, the anti sway system has provided very efficient on 3 occasions and I would be reluctant to tow a van without one. Thanks for your answer .
When will the V8 version become available?
I do not know. I hope soon as it will kick Toyota's butt
Is the 150 kw Touareg ok for towing a less than 2 tonne caravan or should I go for the 180 kw Touareg? Does it matter that the 150 kw version doesn't have the raising and lowering capability?
It is better to have it and not need it than the reverse. My Touareg is 165 kw, my van 1400 kg. Towing is effortless. Get the 180 kw version!
Thanks Peter, this has helped
what do i need to look for on 2010
Just make sure it is what you need or want. Mine is comfortable, quiet, and quick enough off the line to embarrass most other cars. It goes my caravan with ease
I have a my13 Touareg 180kw diesel,an error code B12A122 “Left indirect ventilation flap motorUpper limit exceeded. And code B12A222 “Right indirect ventilation door control motor UPPER Limit exceeded. Both codes are static so they can’t be deleted unless action taken... Air con appears to work fine, should I worry about those codes. Dealer wants a fortune just to diagnose it. Any clues or tips, advice etc??? Cheers Chris
Pay the $150 for the diagnosis. May save you a fortune if it is serious. Try, however disconnecting the battery. Wait 5 minutes and reconnect.. Wait another 5 minutes before starting the engine run it at idle for at least one minute to reset the computer. I am a layman and think that this will give the computer a re boot. Good luck.
Thanks mate for your thoughts will give it a try. Chris D
Hi Chris, I am facing exactly the same issue that you described, would you please tell me if you solve it, and how?
Does the Touareg Launch Edition allow snow chains to be fitted ? I have been told you need to buy a whole new set of tyres!
yes you really need smaller rims
