BankSA is the largest financial institution in South Australia and the State's main provider of housing, personal finance and rural banking services. The Bank also plays a key role in the community as a sponsor of major State events and through the BankSA & Staff Charitable Fund, makes donations to approximately 100 South Australian and Northern Territory-based charities each year.
I'm not sure why the reviews have been positive for BankSA, because my dealings with them have been terrible.
The biggest issue I've had with them was last week. After speaking with one of the phone operators I was promised that my issue had been dealt with. This week I received the dreaded overdrawn letter because nothing had actually been done.
Had a note from December saying going overseas with dates, then while overseas on find out card is blocked. Try to get family to ring BankSA as I have no phone and they won't do anything via email.
Eventually needed to call them, and was on the phone for ages been asked the same questions over and over. I stated that all transactions on my account were fine as I still have card in my possession, and been checking my online banking most days. This didn't stop the continual useless questions. I was then continually asked about $1.07 transactions on my account, which I couldn't explain. The service rep then realized they were fees because I was trying to withdraw cash and card was declined.
In total the call was extremely frustrating and slow process, which i found out cost me $112 to make from the USA. First thing doing once back home is closing my accounts with this useless bank.

Had my settlement booked weeks in advance. Bank SA found out the day before that they put in the wrong forms for a re-finance and cant settle, after beating around the bush that it was going to happen in 1 to 2 days time, making more mistakes, settlement was booked in a Week later... had to reschedule removalist and leave, 3 times !!

Its a bit strange using the word good in relation to banks. Indeed very rare. Whilst BankSA is not a great bank, like the rest of the other banks you are still paying too much interest and it is still very slow to pass on interest rate cuts (if at all) at least the in bank customer service is good. Basically service is quick, no thrills and to the point. Hardly any ques. Which is the least you want with a bank.
