Unfortunately never worked well for us since new, always cuts out every 5 to 10 seconds – The DC35 I bought 2 years ago has always cut out every 5 to 10 seconds of operation making it really frustrating to use. I live in Tasmania and there is no service here, so had to package it up and send to Sydney.
5 weeks latter it returned missing half the parts I sent with it, and it was still exactly the same. Got the missing parts back, but no joy with the operation of this machine.
Don't buy this.
Waste of money!!! Would be great if it worked. Turns off every 5 to 10 seconds of operation, making it really frustrating to use. Do not buy this machine.
It was bought from Clive Peeters and the problem only started getting really bad after about 6 months, by which time Clive Peeters had closed operation in Tasmania. I contacted Dyson service and was told the whole unit plus all parts had to be sent to Dyson Sydney, which I did, and 4 weeks later the cleaner returned missing the wand and head. Then waited 2 more weeks for replacements to arrive. The unit worked semi-ok for about 3 months before the same problem reoccurred. By which time I had had enough, and It was nearly out of warranty.
I just expected more from Dyson.
Dyson offered no replacement, only repair of the existing unit.
As it was an ongoing fault you are covered even if the warranty has expired if you communicate with the manufacturer and let them know the problem still exists. The Trade Practices Act gives you some weight here as it grants the consumer greater protection re: faults than the manufacturers warranty. Suggest you send in writing your concerns and story. Consumer Affairs can assist with the wording and support here. Best wishes
"Turns off every 5 to 10 seconds of operation, making it really frustrating to use. Do not buy this machine." You obviously have a faulty model, this doesn't mean that no-one should buy the product; you even stated "Would be great if it worked.".
I also have the same Dyson machine, that would cut out every few seconds. It was faulty from the start. After reporting this to Dyson, they eventually got it sent in for a service from Dyson in Brisbane. They had the nerve to say the machine was in poor condition ( it was only 3 months old), and tried to put the onus onto us that it was our fault the machine wasn't working. We have it recorded with customer service 3 times with complaints of a faulty machine. Customer service was rude and so was the technician that rang me up. Machine is working property now after the service, but I would think twice about buying another Dyson.
Thank you Brendan22, it,s good to know I am not the only one with problems with this machine. I rang dyson again 3 weeks ago and they told me they now have a service contractor in Hobart so I took it in and they serviced it and so far so good with the cutting out. Except now the MAX button on the end is stuck in, so I guess that will be another trip to the repairer. I will wait till it starts to cut out again and kill two birds with one stone.
Also one of the screws on the bottom of the Multi-Floor head came loose and put fine scratches all over our timber floors, so be careful of this, as they only need to come loose a tiny bit to scratch floors. I have put electrical tape over them now.

Purchased 2 of these recently one for me and one for a friend in the same transaction, having the cut out constantly problem with both.. We will be returning ours to the place of purchase.
I have the same problem with my machine. Cuts out all the time. I sent it to Dyson and they said they couldn't find anything wrong with it. I read somewhere else it may have something to do with the filter that its not connecting properly and that's why its cuts out as it wont work if the filter isn't on. I'm now looking at getting the new model and I just hope I don't have the same issues.
Hi Ally8 & Michele, Sorry to hear you are having issues with your machines. Please email your details through to askdyson@dyson.com.au and we will be in touch.

I got mine via Westpac Altitude points in Dec 2011 & it started doing the same cutting out business about 8 months after we got it. I tried all the customer service tips - removing the filter, cleaning the points etc but this didn't work. I am on the Gold Coast so had to post it to Brisbane which was reply paid postage. The only thing I paid for was registered mail - only $3.20. I have found the customer service so far quite good. They have already emailed me to say they received it. Hope I don't have any of the problems you have had getting it back. I am thinking we must have a faulty batch with bad batteries. Hope all worked out for you.
Hi Joan, Should you require any further assistance please email askdyson@dyson.com.au and we will be in touch.

The saga continues!!! I took the offer and contacted the Dyson official. And once again posted the whole lot back to Sydney, but told them I did not want this same machine sent back to me. Got confirmation it had arrived in Sydney and told they would send me a new machine. So I waited 4 weeks and then called them back to see what the problem was, and I was told they were waiting on proof of purchase from me. Which they never once mentioned in any discussions with them. Luckily I found the original receipt and sent a copy to Sydney. Another week or so and the new one arrived. (end of saga?) NO! I have had the new one for about 4 months now and treat it better than a new born child, but it has started the same problem of cutting out again. Probably worse than the first machine. I know all the supposed fixes for this machine, and I am an electrician, so know a bit about appliances. But I have no idea why these things don't work properly. Next step is back to Dyson repair again. And I still say don't buy this machine!!!
Hi Colin,
Sorry to hear about this. I will be in touch with you today.
Best wishes,
Shan
Had my time back again, I wouldn't have got one either. I have extended warranty on mine too.
Hi Brendan, If you would like assistance please email askdyson@dyson.com.au and I will be in touch.

Hi, I have had the DC35 for 2 years and have also had constant cut out problems. It has been repaired once only for the problem to return 6 months later. For the last year we have put up with the problem as we were constantly travelling so was never in one place long enough to put it in for repairs. Almost thrown it in the lake several times through frustration. My 2 year warranty is up by 3weeks so am hoping Dyson will still repair under warranty as I have reported it several times. When it works it is fantastic, when it plays up I want to smash the thing. Good luck to other buyers. Damien
I am so relieved to hear that it's not only me that has the problem of this machine constantly cutting out. I have arthritis in my hands and it's actually painful to constantly apply pressure to the ON button to make it work, only to have it cut out ALL OF THE TIME. I have a Dyson vaccum cleaner for my carpets that I've had for years with no problems. This DC35 however, is a piece of junk and it has put me off ever buying another Dyson. Not happy at all with this.
Another unhappy customer here. Exactly same story as above, My Dyson keeps cutting out after about 5 seconds use. Was great at the start but got progressively worse to the point I can't use it. Now all I can do is look at it appreciate the design and lament the function. Thought I'd query Google and found this post. Will email Dyson and see if they can help.
Same problem with mine. Cuts out every 5-10 seconds. Of course the warranty just ran out!
Well what can I say but thankyou to Shan. I recorded the problems with my hand held vacuum in the post of 18Jan14 above and today, 30Jan14, I received an email from Shan which has completely remedied the problem. This level of customer support has restored my faith in Dyson and I would be happy to purchase another of their products.
Same problem, I have emailed Shan too. Hoping for a reply soon.
Same problem as well, cuts out every few seconds. ours has sat in cupboard for about a year as it was out of warranty, shop we purchased from was no help when we discussed it with them and the dyson rep that was on site when we were there. obviously a design or build quality issue.
My Dc35 worked great for a while then started to cut out,I phoned the help desk and was sent a new motor, after a few months same problem occurred, Spoke to helpline and was sent a new battery.. This worked for a while and then started cutting out.. After many emails a courrrier came and took it so a Dyson technician could look at it.. Got it back and gave it a full charge, guess what.. Cut out straight away.. I asked for a new machine or offered to pay the difference for an upgrade. Very disappointed, I assumed spending over £200 for a Dyson would guarantee a machine that would work for a long time to come, sadly not the case.. Karen
Apparently this is a simple problem to fix - the DC35 and other Dyson stick vaccums have a design or maufacturing fault - the battery comes loose from its contacts. I has nothing to do with the trigger.
You can tell if this is the problem - just hold one hand under the battery to support it and start vacuuming as normal. It should prevent the problem. If it does, the permanent, but not very elegant fix, is to hold the battery in place to the housing with a cable tie or sticky tape.
I found the solution on this Web page:

Of course, since Dyson puts such an emphasis on design, it seems that they are not admitting to this, as far as I can tell. They'd rather spend money on fixes that don't work. Poor show!
I too have had the same problem. When the machine works it is very handy, but when it cuts out it is infuriating. I have had mine for 7 months and it has been cutting out for the past three or so months. I contacted Dyson today. Hopefully I have better luck than most of you. If not, I will contact "the checkout" on ABC, they are pretty good with investigating consumer law and faulty purchases!
I have also had the same issues. Works poorly for a minute then cuts out. I paid Lots of money for this fancy machine when my broom works better!

Why didn't you just return it to the store, they come with a 2 year warranty? Seems you got a faulty one because no one else seems to have had this problem. I too live in Tassie and when I had to get a replacement part for my big dyson, it was hassle free and arrived within a few days, sorry but I can't understand why you didn't ask for a replacement, that's what warranties are for.
