BT50 gearbox problems – We bought new BT50. Rear gearbox main leaking from day 1. Had gearbox rebuilt at 5K. Bearings syncros stuffed. Had war with Dwyers in Wollongong regarding on going problems. Mazda tested car and stated even before leaving the yard gearbox was bad and would require replacing. Received car back from Dwyers Wollongong with stated 'New gearbox'. Gearbox just the same at 28k. The 'new gearbox' consisted of a low kilometre box being rebuilt and installed after it was painted with silver frost paint. Mazda stated they do not need to use new parts to rectify warrant situations.

Do not buy but a Mazda BT50 - Gearbox rubbish,

Do not buy a Mazda BT50 - 2 Cent finish, rust from new.

Do not buy Mazda BT50 - incredibly bad handling in wet (ask the cops who have ranger).

Dot not buy Mazda BT50 - No after sales service either from Mazda Australia or Dwyers Wollongong.

I have been a automotive repairer for 30 years. good engine

It does not matter what you buy they all have their problems. I have been a mechanic for 33 years and seen it all. My only advice is service regularly and use good fuel. This helps to identify potential problems early so they can be repaired before they become major expensive problems. There is no bullet proof vehicle out there, not even the Hilux, I see their problems everyday along with the rest. Most problems are caused by owners using vehicles for purposes beyond what they were designed for. If you need to carry heavy weight and tow heavy vans or boats you need a Landcruiser not a Hilux. Any 1 Ton UTE will do the job for a while but it will not last.

I think some people just treat their vehicles like rubbish and then they start wondering why are things going wrong. If you look after it and get it regularly serviced and drive it sensibly it should go fine.
