Bernina Bernette 65

No tension problems at all – I bought this machine with some reservations after reading previous reviews.........and it couldn't be happier. I've had no problems at all and it is quite enjoyable to sew with. Perhaps the tension issues described have been fixed. I found it easy to thread and the bobbin thread went in easily. The instruction manual is comprehensive and easy enough to read Smooth to sew with and great guide markings
Shame on you Bernina – If it were possible, I would assign a zero rating to this review. It doesn't deserve the one star. One would think that a Swiss-based company that can hold-up its corporate head proudly when it comes to its sewing machines, would have taken better care when offering a basic sewing at a modest price. I am having the same problem as all those… Read more
posting the negative comments on this website -- thread tension problems. I am in the process of buying a new machine. It's hard to like the machine when all it can sew is thin-textured fabrics. The thread tension is in constant need of adjustment.
Mislead Bernette not Bernina quality – I too have experienced the tension problems, sucking thread etc. The most disappointing thing is that the instruction manual does not tell you how to maintain it. For a machine that cost $400, it costs between $95-$105 to get someone to oil it for you - something that every sewer should be able to do for themselves to keep it running smoothly… Read more
and extend the life of the machine. To not allow this is designng it to be a throwaway item.
When I bought my Bernette, I was lead to believe that I was buying sewing machine manufactured by Bernina. On seeking to have it serviced, I found that it is not and was told that it is manufactured elsewhere but sold under the same brand. The Bernbette's are commonly acknowledged to be a lesser quality machine.
Shame on Bernina for misleading us and I note they continue to do so with new Bernette models. I have a good mind to report them to the authorities. No matter how good my mother's Bernina was in the 80s (and still is) my brand loyalty has evaporated.
For the basic sewer (which is where the Bernettes are pitched), my advice is to go and get yourself an older model of Singer that you can take apart and put back together yourself. Dont be duped (as I was) by a shop that you should trade your old machine in for one of these. It was simple cant oil it yourself, tenion and thread suck issues, marketing is misleading
Terrible – after trying 3 different bernette 65 machines i gave up and bought a janome 8077, LOVE IT!!! my advice don't buy it. great price (or so i thought) tension problems - tried 3 different machines, all had tension problems.
Excellent – I still love my machine. I have now finished my very first quilt and did not have any problems with the machine. The quilt finished just fine. I used the Janome walking foot while sewing on the binding. I have now started on my second and third quilts. I had a little trouble with the tension a couple of days ago, however, it turned out that I… Read more
had the bobbin in wrong. Took the bobbin out and tried again and worked like a charm....I will update again in a few months. In the mean time I'm still giving a 5 star review....Since I cannot use the points, please give to someone who needs them. Sews like a dream Attachments are not easy to find
Bad – I would re-think. Again the higher price for the Bernina will be well worth it in the long run and be less frustrating Easy to use I too have had alot of trouble with the tension. It even started sewing backwards on me for awhile! Before it was 12 months old it had been back to the shop 6 times.
Terrible – Took it back in the first year and returned it for a new machine. The new one is not any better. I would not buy this machine again. It is in the shop for adjustment and a new bobbin casing right now. But, the job is on hold because I am thinking about trading it in for a Brother or Singer. Smooth action when it sews I have had all kinds or trouble with the tention.
Terrible – would never buy bernina again. terrible machine. Had it for repair many times and the actual machine replaced twice. Sent it to Bernina direct, they fixed the tension and sent it back to me. I never opened the box to see if it worked better, i sold it and got rid of it out of my life. compact, good price. terrible trouble with the tension, the… Read more
shop kept blaming me adn telling me it was my sewing causing the problem, had it in for so many repairs adn two replaced machines.
OK – good sewing machine for the money. doesn't jump around like some can. will give you good even and strong stitches smooth action and even stitches. the automatic button hole is great. doesn't sew all that well through thick materials such as denim.
