Rotorua is one of the most famous destinations in New Zealand, and has a long history of welcoming visitors. From the moment people arrive in Rotorua they know they're somewhere quite different. There is a scent of sulphur in the air, and at nearby geothermal hotspots there are spouting geysers, acrid-smelling mud pools bubbling and belching, and warm geothermal pools and ponds that create a kaleidoscope of colour. Rotorua is also the heartland of New Zealand's Maori culture, and visitors can enjoy a performance of song and dance, followed by food cooked in a traditional hangi (cooked in an earthen oven). Pros: Rotorua really is a tourist destination that offers something different to the traveller. There are plenty of things to do and the geothermal pools are just something out of another world. A great place to go to really experience some Kiwi culture.

Cons: The smell can be a bit much but you do get used to it after a while. It is expensive to travel there.

Overall: For a destination that has something different Rotorua has to be it. It is a definite must do for anyone travelling to New Zealand as I do not know of anywhere else like it. A great spot to really experience some Maori culture as well.

Pros: So much to do especially if you into things like white water rafting, zorbing etc. Lots of accomodation to chose from and the town is easy to navigate although I would suggest having a car. The park at the end of town with the mud is unique.

Cons: The smell can take a bit of getting used to but you do get used to it!

Overall: We loved staying here and were busy the whole time. The Tamaki cultural centre was awesome and we went white water rafting and luging as well which was awesome fun. There is also a good mix of accomodation and food places.

Pros: the stunning and rugged natural beauty and a fantastic experience that appeals to every on of your senses

Cons: it is a bit of a hike from WA but worth the effor and expense of going there because there is nothing like this in Australia

Overall: if you had to pick only one place the visit in The Land of the Long White Cloud', this great place should most certainly be the one. It has a natural beauty about it that is pure joy. everything about this experience is great, efficient NZ service and courtesy also great attention to even the smallest detail
