Pros:
It looks good and has worked really well for the first year, year and a half
Cons:
It doesn't work any more! It cuts out when recording - even on to new dvds, sends up error messages, or claims that the disc is dirty when it patently isn't. The manual is rather confusing, I don't think I got as much out of it as there was to take, but I couldn't understand the manual.
Overall:
Waste of money. I bought it because of the brand name, Sony means reliability, or so I thought, but not any more! DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.

Pros:
Plain & simple to use.
Warm color.
Looks solidly built.
Great variety of inputs at the back.
Cons:
Slow in starting up & finalising -R discs, takes ages.
Will NOT take TDK brand discs nor can it handle high speed discs of more than 2X or 4X. That's what the Instruction Manual says. Read it and stick to it to avoid expensive mistakes with imcompatible discs.
Very limited characters selection for making chapters & titles, inflexible maneuvering, limited editing capacity.
Very dimmed displays on front panel.
Overall:
Good value.
Do just want you wanted it to do, no more no less.
Look at Panasonic -RAM too if you can pay more on discs and haven't decided on a VHS substitute and want something more versatile in play-list editing.
Will grow to like the remote control unit - eventually.
Still - one year warranty.
