Terrible – I was very disappointed by this unit. I found that a lot of the time the DVD's would not play and that this unit was particularly sensutive. We managed to go through 3 of these in less than 12 months- each one was replaced with a new one until I finally said, "No More" For the price, this unit should have been more hard wearing and far less… Read more

senstive.

Expensive, we went through 3 of these in less than a year. It could not stand up to the use of kids -who were not as gentle as they could have been but still I expected far more for the price paid.

Terrible – It takes too long to read the hard disk. Most of the time it cannot read the DVD When it works the picture is good. But overall LG stands for "LOW GRADE" crap. If you buy an LG product, you need help - but you won't get it from LG. Sony is not much better. Try Pioneer Substandard unit

Terrible – I think the China-made DVD players are much more value for money than the Korean one, or buy the Japanese one is much more better. Dun use LG anymore !!!!! This is the first DVD Recorder I have bought since 2004, love it at frist..... Can't use TDK -RW to record, initialize for ages, have to do a lot of updates after recording the program and to watch the program in another DVD players, and sometimes it didn't work. So annoying !!!

OK – I believe they could of gone cheaper since the machine is pretty slow to load up and read discs. Not very good customer service, could potentially be a good unit but LG needs to sort out its few problems. Reasonable price, records both + and - format, easy menu system, easy to learn and use, aesthetic, slim body, great sleek design and finish,… Read more

good features, great colours and it is easy to setup and record. Good variety of input formats. Slower than expected startup, locked up once, remote is very big, titles basic, timer recording by start time and x minutes, doesnt seem to work with TDK-RW disks (pretty annoying).

Terrible – Agent (respected repairer) unable to upgrade unit and asked LG for replacement. Displaying appalling customer service LG stalled or ignored myself & agent. After 10 weeks without unit LG replaced it after intervention by Fair Trading Dept. Replacement unit is model DR6921W (see review). Reasonably priced. Records both + and – format. Easy menu… Read more

system, easy overall to use. Has IEEE 1394 (DV) & SVideo inputs. Slow startup, remote very big. Titles basic. Timer recording by start time and x minutes. No AT feature in Timer recording. Intermittently fails to record when resuming from "pause”. Comes up with message "Unknown error”. Most problems with discs. ( TDK –R &-RW used). Contacted LG WHO CONFIRMED UNIT WILL ONLY RECORD ON 2x –RW and 4x –R DISCS THAT TDK NO LONGER MAKE. The test is try to format (initialize) a 4x –RW disc in Video mode. If it fails, needs software upgrade. LG said to take to authorized agent for software upgrade, free under warranty. I had only used unit for 3 weeks

OK – Was in the deal with widescreen TV. Works well after 11 months. Had trouble with -R disc's.Don't use them any more.Have to watch last show taped on RW disc or it freezes disc up and can't delete programs.

Bad – OK for the price if it would read 'all' -R discs etc. Once I get the discs that the unit does like and try and get the picture sorted out it'll be OK. At this stage for ease of recording - stick with a VCR, it's quicker and easier to use. The price - paid $499 Singapore Dollars last September. Doesn't seem to like TDK-R discs. I purchased a… Read more

pack of 10 TDK-R discs and none of them work. The consensus from a few people are that they're not compatable. Sony-RW works fine. I have been recording home movies from VHS tape and expected the picture quality to be the same or better. Seems on some the picture when viewed at close range looks 'pixelated'. Not sure if this is the fault of the recorder or what, as the picture is fine on the VHS tape.

It's slow to fire up and initialise each disc.

Good – For the price, it's great & I'd recommend it. After reading the reviews here I was a bit reluctant to go ahead & purchase the unit, but... picked it up for around $500 and have had no dramas at all. It's pretty flexible, and does all the stuff it claims it would. Not sure if there was a bad batch early on or what the story was, but it's all worked fine for me. Slow to initialise Not the most intuitive menu system the world has ever seen

Good – I had not read the overwhelming bad reviews about this recorder, until AFTER I had purchased it. It was purchased "on the fly" or "rebound" after I had returned a DSE branded recorder with which I was not satisfied. Having then read the review I was in a state of depression! The GOOD NEWS, is that to date I have not been able to reproduce any… Read more

of the audio dropouts and other issues experienced by other owners. In my case this unit simply does everything it says it will do and does it well. Who knows? maybe I have received a unit that LG has finally ironed out the bugs or maybe I am the luckiest guy alive?

Would I buy this unit again? YES, but give me some more time to see if it suddenly falls in a screaming heap and then I will join the ranks of consumers who want to make life difficult for LG customer service.

I hope all you guys can get LG to sort out your problems, as I think this is a "good unit" and does appear to work well for the money you have to fork out. The quality of recorded material is very good. Its noise filter nicely cleans up recordings from the VCR. The front panel inputs happily take S-video, DV in and composite in and I have had no problems recording from all these sources. The DV in works fine with my Canon digital video camera.

I found the setup menu to be easy to follow. It burns everything I can throw at it from -+R or -+RW. I have not had a single coaster from it and have burnt about 20 odd disks. The disks are playable in my old Hiteker 600AD and my recent Pioneer player. The disks are recognisaeble in my PC and I am able to grab the VOB files and re-author for more sophisticated menus etc. The on board editing features are however useable in the recorder. Takes a while to read disks when you put them in. It has a peculiar way of setting timer recordings. You put in the start time, but no end time. Instead you put in the total amount of time to be recorded from the start time. You do get used to the mental gymnastics eventually! The channel changing is slow on its tuner, this delay is a little annoying. The remote control is too big, but you will never love it! The unit may be slim but it is too long in its depth. It is a problem if your shelves are narrow.

Good – A recommeded high tech unit, that competently performs all the functions that you're likely to need. Experimented with each of the recording media (-/+R & -/+RW) and had no problems. Only the -R could be recognized on my Panasonic DVD player. Faultlessly played a DVD of a friend's home video that could not be played on the Panasonic. Recognized… Read more

and displayed the format as +R.

Recording quality from a VHS tape is excellent. Recording is easy to set up and perform.

Some very nice review features on titles and chapters.

Good variety of input formats.

Well priced. Slower than expected startup.

Locked up once when attempting to finalize a recorded DVD. Could be the media.

A complex unit to operate.

OK – Still trying different types of media. Out of 10 TDK -R discs recorded with this unit only half will play on all three of my players. (LG, Pioneer and Tevion)Discs played on the LG player (not the recorder) freeze and skip towards the end. Pioneer either plays OK or will not load a disc (50/50). The Tevion can play about 90% of the recordings.… Read more

First recording on an Imation -R plays on all three players without a problem.

I think that once I find the correct media this should be a good recorder. Well priced, attractive unit. Does both +R/RW and -R/RW. Has IEEE 1394 (DV) input. Easy to set up and use. Recordings from Video8 tapes actually look better than the original. Some discs recordrd on this unit will not play in other DVD players. Still need to determine if it is media related.
