Best kettle!! – I have had my kettle for 10 years - it's been fantastic! the plastic around lid is perishing - but kettle still is good. It's a shame, as I love it! Very comfy handle! Shame it's been discontinued- I can't find any other kettle that is good quality and comfortable! WHY has it been discontinued? its a shame- the ones on the market now are rubbish!! Show details
Great while we had it – We had our kettle for about 3 years, and tonight it blew up, orange flames and tripped the house circuit breaker too. The circuit breaker has been tripped a few times in the last few weeks as the hot weather came but we didn't suspect it was the kettle! We use it quite a lot in the last 6 months with baby bottles etc and I do like that I boils… Read more · 1
fast but it scared me tonight when it blew up, I was standing right next to it with bubs in my arms! Scorch marks all over the base and bottom of kettle.
Great Kettle But Quality is Poor – I like the size, shape and looks of the kettle and it boils fast enough for me but there is something wrong with the stainless steel covering the element because from the first day I used it, there was spotting inside the kettle, so I returned it and exchanged it for a new one but the same thing happened again but it was even worse because there… Read more
was a rust spot in it as well. I doubt it is stainless steel. I called the company and they replaced it with a different brand.
Lid fail - contamination of water (after years of use) – I have just noticed the same problem as another reviewer who described it as "scary powder". The lid of the kettle is flaking black specks into the water. About a week ago I spotted black specks in the water. I thought maybe tea leaves.. but how would tea leaves get in the kettle. On closer inspection tonight, I have found the underside of the… Read more
lid crumbles away when touched. Every time the lid was closed, a tiny bit of plastic would break off the lid and drop into the water. This is not cool, and has brought to a bitter end what was a good few years with this kettle. It was 5 stars until I discovered the contamination, which I personally believe to be a serious design flaw.
I liked the general design of the kettle, the shape and the on/off button was good. But like the other reviewer, I am concerned about how much of the lid I have consumed unknowingly. This is a bad way for a kettle to die. Measures should be in place to prevent "bits of the kettle falling into the water". I can only imagine the plastic was not a suitable choice by the designers for this kettle's lid.
I will be looking for a new kettle now and paying careful attention to its construction and durability.
Scary powder – My kettle had been ok and great to use. However, I just notice there are powder like pieces came out from the lid both inside and outside, it looks like the aging process of the lid. Will those powder causing cancer? I have been using electronic kettle over 20 years, no such happened with other kettles. can see the water level from outside powder like pieces came out from the lid
Only last for 13 months – Short circuit after 13 months and triped the house circult breaker, cannot believe Sunbeam can produce such a poor quality applicance. Will never buy a Sunbeam product again. It costs $80 bucks and only last for 13 months ... will consider buying a Breville that at least last for two years if not longer

Great kettle – It looks great very simple and understated design, easy to fill with the flip lid you can fill it with one hand and boils very quickly. It's fairly light on its own so it's not to bad when filled It also cleans well with the stainless steel wipes. It's a bit noisy but it's a kettle so you can expect that. Easy to fill A little pricey
Lasted only 14 months – After 14 months of use (+- 3 to 4 times per day) the kettle stopped working. Of course it was 2 months outside the warranty period and Sunbeam were not interested in the fact that a kettle should have a longer lifespan. In 23 years this was the first kettle that stopped working. Usually I replaced kettles because I wanted a new look, not because… Read more
they stopped working.
By contrast, I purchased a heater from another company which stopped working 1 month after the warranty expired. They indicated that the expected lifespan of the item is 7 years and since I only had 2 years worth of service out of the item, they credited me with 5/7 of the current retail price towards a replacement for the heater.
Inferior item; bad customer service
A good kettle - quite happy with it – We bought this kettle as a replacement for a VERY noisy Tefal stainless steel kettle - can't recall the model number - that broke about 2 weeks after we bought it. We liked its shape and design, and also own a Sunbeam 4 slice Cafe Series toaster and Sunbeam Cafe Series coffee machine, so we trust the brand. This kettle is much quieter than the… Read more
Tefal and will boil a full jug of water when filled from tap in under 2 minutes. We use it multiple times each day, for hot drinks and cooking.
Be prepared to clean the stainless surface regularly to keep it looking beautiful as finger prints do leave marks - but really no different from any other stainless appliance.
Overall - reasonable quality for the price we paid. The large capacity (1.7L) and its general appearance
Good while it lasted – Boils quickly and gets the job done. Looks good. Very noisy. On/off switch broke after 13 months - at that rate 80 bucks for this appliance is way overpriced. Good while it worked. Should have lasted a lot longer than 13 months.
OK – We have had ours for 10 years and have been happy with it apart from the noise. It has worked consistently and it gets a lot of use. The filter perished a couple of years ago and was thrown out. The lid has now perished, and we are putting the kettle to rest. Its a shame the lid isn't replaceable or made of more durable material, as the rest of… Read more
the kettle seems fine. But it's had a good innings! Would love to find another kettle not so noisy, but I have yet to read a review here of one that works. As most people noted, fast boiling, we liked the shape and look at a price we could afford. Its really noisy, but I hear most metal ones are.
Good – Overall very nice kettle looks good with the other stain less steel applicances you may have. If you have stainless steel in the kitchen then you may be aware that unless you constantly wipe them down you will aways notice the fingerprint marks. Nice modern stainless steel looking kettle, with a 1.7lt capacity and quick boiling. Also has a 360… Read more
degree base, meaning you can sit the kettle at any angel on the base. Also has an internal filter at the mouth of the kettle incase you would like to boil up some tea. With the stainless steel finish you can see fingerprints.
Good – they must have improved it over the years. looking at some of these reviews it's been around for years and it wouldn't have lasted if it was no good. so far I've found it quiter than most stainles kettles. I have to say it's a better than average model. Good size and shape, Good capacity, fast boil, pleasing to the eye None so far (only had it a copule of weeks

Know better, choose better.
Bad – Well, after reading the other review, I quickly ran to check mine. I checked my filter, which was not perished and didn't need much cleaning, just a rinse and wipe. Had a little calcification on it is all. The plastic/rubber around the top had some minor wear but only around the outside. He may have bought a dud, mine seems ok. I'm glad he wrote… Read more
his review though. Overall, I'm not fussed on my kettle, it's hard to keep clean, its very noisy, and only looked pretty when it was new. There are much better ones on the market. shop around. Cordless. Was expensive when I bought it, but not as much now. Very noisy, which took a lot of getting used to. You can't hear the TV when it's going - you need to boil in the ads.
Good – I think the fact that the kettle has lasted 7 years speaks for itself. I didn't find it too expensive - I would rather pay a bit more money to purchase something that lasts. I know alot of people who own this kettle (mum, sister, friends, etc) and so far no one has had any of the problems as outlined in previous reviews - maybe they were just a… Read more
bad batch that were produced. My husband and I bought this kettle when we first moved out together in 2001. They are still making the same design (in fact a friend just bought the same one for her new house just last month) so it has maintained its style and functionality over time. Our kettle is still going strong. It has not had any problems with the mesh or lid - and that is after 7 years of ALOT of use - we are caffiene addicts in our household. It boils the water quickly - even larger amounts. It is noisy - we have to turn the TV up to hear over it when it is on - but our kitchen is right next to our lounge. I would like the lid to come completely off rather than flip up - but that is a personal preference. If the lid is not clasped down firmly the kettle doesn't automatically switch off straight away when the water has reached boiling point - but it will switch off a few seconds later. The stainless steel (like any stainless steel) shows up marks easily and needs cleaning alot. Sunbeam have now realised a brushed stainless steel which won't need as much cleaning - but this wasn't available back in 2001.
Terrible – One day, I decided to check the filter mesh to see if it needed some cleaning or replacement. I placed my fingers between the mesh, and what I found? Powdery substance! I completely removed the mesh and where my fingers were was a big hole. The rest started to crumble leaving the plastic frame. Naturally I wasn't too pleased but I wasn't… Read more
ready to discard something I haven't had much of a use out of. So I continued to use the kettle without any filter mesh. By this time, the base of the cordless is getting wet each fill. I thought maybe I should fill less. Even at half fill, it would leak. An electrical safety hazzard!
Then we started to find fine grandules or black bits in our coffee. We thought they were simply bits from the coffee grains. We continue to consume hot water from the kettle.
It was on a weekend when I made a light coloured jelly did I find 'coffee grains' in them! Alarm bells rang. It cannot be right. I had the jelly in the glass bowl first and there were no black bits. As soon as I poured hot water from the kettle did the black bits surface. This time the bits were larger than grains.
I inspected the kettle and to be utmost horror, I found the plastic lid disgracefully eroded. The inside rim of the lid is no longer a perfect line of circle! It was jaggered and crumbled in. A very distinguishable V design on the inside of the lid has lost 80% of its V. I placed my fingers on what was to be the remaining of the raised V, and it just crumbled between my fingers. I gave it a light squeeze and it disintegrated into grey powder!
What have we consumed all these seasons? What long term ill health effect my innocent actiion of love for my family has gotten us all? Now we fear for the side effects of this bad manufacture.
I went on Sunbeam's website and wrote what I found. Within minutes my phone rang with Sunbeam's CSR on the line. She instructed me to return the kettle for examination by their appointed courier.
I wished I had known and found this website prior to my purchase. I find it is now my obligation to share my horrific experience with the public so no one needs to go through what we went through - now hoping for no side effects although it had already affected us psychologically the thought of drinking contaiminated water is not a good and healthy thought.
In my opinion this design should be taken off the shops and off the production line immediately because not everyone using this kettle or going to purchase this kettle reads reviews. Fast boiling. Shiny and great shape. Good family size. Material used could have health hazzards ie. erosive filter mesh and plastic lid.
Excellent – I have read the other revies that say this kettle is noisy. All stainless steel kettles are noisier than plastic kettles. If you want quiet.. buy plastic. my mum has had this kettel for 6 years, and I have had one for 5 years and we both love them and have never had a problem. As for the review I read about the inside base disintergrating, you… Read more
chould never leave water sitting in any kettle when not in use.. this is what happens. I highly reccomend it. It looks really great, is easy to clean and affordable. boils very fast
Bad – Overall I thought it was great and loved the size and shape - until I looked inside it one day and found the stainless steel disintegrating! I didnt realise it was happening until I found a black spec floating in my baby's milk bottles while feeding him; I was wondering where it had come from as the bottles/milk hadnt come into contact with… Read more
anything except sterilizer, formula and boiled water so I checked out the kettle and sure enough it was coming from the kettle. Needless to say I put my beloved kettle to rest in the bin and didnt choose to buy the same brand again. I loved this kettle (if that is possible) it has a great shape and was quick to boil. I liked the position of the handle which meant your hand didnt get steamed if you needed to refill and boil it again and again. Its shape made it easy to hold and was rather compact for the capacity it held. It was VERY noisy and seemed to get noisier the longer I had it. Then finally after many years (probably 5+) of daily use I was horrified to find the internal bit that covered the hidden element had not only become discoloured but it was almost like the stainless steel was desintegrating in a distinct circle shape of the hidden element below it.
