OK – Maybe if you have external power to it and the screen light on permanently then the visibility of the maps would dramatically improve. However, if you roving the countryside by foot then this just won't work. You may want to use this unit in a car but it is designed for the professional in mind. Some say one other limiting factor is the inability to create the same waypoint ID. Why would you want to? Well, if you were gold prospecting and used the waypoint ID as a description of size of gold (exploration work) you can't. The ability to use the same ID means the geophysicist can then export the data to show the deposits size and location for further assessment. If you are a professional, no, use a PDA in a Otter Box instead or wait for the MobileMapper CE version to come out but it will cost a lot more. Cheap price for a mapping device. Not much like it on the market until the CE version comes. Cheap screen technology, not at all bright, just can't see the map in direct sunlight.
