DG834 – I bought plenty of these in the past brand new at different times. They all boiled down to the same issue heat issue. Over a period of 6month to 1yr it would get warm... then hot .... then extremely hot. I adjusted the position of the modem vertical to reduce the heat build up but didn't work. About 2 yrs down the line the ports would go to a slow speed then drop and won't connect and i'd have to change to another Port then after that it would just brick up. it was cheap and easily accessible anywhere at nearly any PC shops Heat issue, no support from manufacturer. Had to update firmware a few times to get it work with newer devices

Good – The Netgear DG834 has proven to to be the most reliable router I have used for the past few years. It was easy to set up and configure right out of the box and has some useful features such as ADSL-2 compatibility and a secure SPI firewall. My one has survived through many thunder storms, firmware upgrades and is still happily running to this day. I have tried other brands of modem/routers such as D-Link and Belkin with varying degrees of success. But, I have found Netgear's to be the best bang for buck and would happily buy their products again. Fast, Stable, Reliable, User friendly interace, Good value for money It can get quite warm, Site blocking by keyword sometimes still lets unwanted sites through

Excellent – Overall I think this product is excellent, I can't recommend it highly enough. It provides the with peace of mind of protection with a firewall. It has all the features of more expensive firewalls, but most importantly it has everything in the one box. You don't need to buy a separate ADSL modem. I liked it so much, I have just bought the wireless version of this same product (DG834G) Easy set-up and configuration, all in one ADSL modem, 4 port switch, router and true SPI firewall. Very reasonably priced. Not keen on the rounded design, doesn't stack well with other devices. Not designed for the single user, it doesn't have a USB port, so you will need a network card in your machine in order to use it.

Excellent – Extremely good modem/router. If you are after a wireless modem/router the Netgear DG834G is exactly like the DG834 but with wireless. Highly recommended unit. Very simple and easy to setup. Excellent reliability. Had no problems with it so far. Very good modem. Doesn't have a power switch on/off button. Not really a big problem, nothing else i can think of.
