Bernina Bernette 55

Good, useful sewing machine – I bought this machine new 4 years ago and find it is a good machine and I enjoy using it . It is so useful for mending, hems and alterations. It sews well and the instruction manual is very useful. Sometimes the wording in the manual is not that clear, probably due to translation. But it is still good enough. Also there's alot of extra pages due to other languages .... however (some of those I tore out sothat the manual is not so thick....)
The machine is a bit heavy, but once it's in position it's good. ( I usually leave it in position.)
Bernina is a good brand --- a Swiss product.
I am definately happy with my Bernina Bernette E55.

Awful – Sorry I ever bought it. Needle constantly breaking or coming unthreaded. Tension never works properly. Do not buy this machine. Sounds very clunky when being used. Can't wait to get rid of it and buy something else. Turned me off sewing too as a previous reviewer said. Bye Bye Bernette

Terrible – Mine is a Bernette 50 and what a sense of De Javu reading some of these reviews. No matter what you do to adjust the tension it always ends up in a big old mess of threads. This machine has put me off sewing for a long time and I was thinking about giving it one more shot but not anymore. I think I will save up for a new machine!
Excellent – I bought this for my daughter for a graduation present 5 years ago. We recently hauled it out of storage and she and I used it to make a fleece blanket for her boyfriend. Having been dormant for so long didn't seem to faze the machine. It sewed the thick layers of fleece with no problem. It pulled the fabric through the feed dog evenly and straight. My daughter, a brand new sewer, had minimal problems with it, which were more her and less the machine. I'm surprised to see negative reviews on this machine as I tested it in the store before I chose this model, and am still pleased with how it performs for the money I paid for it. Lightweight, less expensive than a "real" Bernina Limited stitch selection
