Lexmark E230 / E232

Bad – I didn't like this printer much, and was happy when it finally died so I could get a new printer. It was my first laser printer, and I was hoping that it would be cheaper than inkjet printers to refill ink. I tried to make the toner last as long as possible (shaking the cartridge and putting it back in) but they never seemed to last as long as they were supposed to. Good for printing text fast. Bulky printer that takes up space.

Stopped working after only 2 years.

The toner didn't last long, and costs too much.

Before it stopped working altogether it would often have problems communicating with my computer.

Lots of paper jams.

Good – Good quality print, not super-fast but not bad either for this price, quite compact just don't forget the cost of toner! Cheap to buy. VERY cheap! I got mine from DealsDirect for $169.00. $99 for the toner cartridges which supposedly do 2,500 pages but I got only about 1,000 from the one it came with.

Good – Very happy. I got mine for $129 at Makro Superstore (kind of like Red Dot) - believe it or not. The toner cartridges are more expensive than the printer IF you buy brand new ones. You CAN refill the toner cartridge that comes with the printer but you can apparently only do this two or three times. It is a good looking unit that is much faster and better than the HP5MP it replaced. This is one sexy printer!

It is really good looking.

It has clear controls and status lights.

It has both USB and Parallel ports.

It has drivers for ALL windows versions (well 95 on) as well as Mac OS 8, 9 and 10 (with OS X you get a version for each version 10.1 10.2 etc) as well as really great Linux support.

It is quiet and fast.

It has great paper handling - I love horizontal paper trays - I HATE those angled upright ones they ALWAYS jam.

It has a clear and easy front envelope/card/paper manual feed for unusual stock or labels or manual duplexing.

It gives crisp clear text and reasonable graphics. The toner cartridges are the same as other laser printers (expensive). You CAN refill the toner two or three times but then the onboard CHIP kills that cartridge. Toner for any lexmark laser printer in this series works with it.
