AI reviews summary
The overall sentiment for Australia Post is overwhelmingly negative, characterized by a significant breakdown in trust regarding delivery reliability and customer support. While a small segment of users praises local posties and specific branch staff for their professionalism and friendliness, the majority of feedback highlights systemic failures in logistics and corporate accountability. Recurring themes include parcels being sent on illogical interstate "tours," delivery drivers failing to attempt delivery despite residents being home, and a customer service infrastructure that many find impossible to navigate.
Pros
- Exceptional Local Staff: Multiple reviewers highlight specific individual postal workers and local branch staff who are described as professional, courteous, and consistently helpful.
- Effective Digital Tools: The Australia Post app and tracking notifications receive praise from some users for providing helpful updates and simplifying the return process.
- Reliable International Service: A segment of business and personal users reports positive experiences with international shipping, noting that parcels often arrive in good condition and within reasonable timeframes.
- Safe Drop Execution: Some users are satisfied with the "safe drop" service, noting that parcels are often tucked away securely and out of sight from the street.
Cons
- Inexplicable Logistical Errors: A major recurring complaint involves parcels being misdirected to incorrect states or sorting facilities, often resulting in items travelling thousands of kilometres away from their intended destination.
- "Phantom" Delivery Attempts: Numerous users report receiving "unable to deliver" notifications while being home, with CCTV evidence often showing drivers failing to knock, ring doorbells, or even exit their vehicles.
- Inaccessible Customer Support: The reliance on AI chatbots and automated phone systems is a significant source of frustration, with users reporting long wait times and an inability to speak with a human to resolve complex issues.
- Express Post Failures: There is a widespread perception that the premium "Express Post" service is a "scam," as it frequently fails to meet overnight or 2-day guarantees, often taking as long as standard mail.
Verdict
Australia Post appears to be a service of extremes, where high-quality frontline interactions are overshadowed by deep-seated logistical and administrative inefficiencies. While the service remains a functional necessity for many, consumers should expect potential delays and be prepared to use the app to track parcels closely, as the physical delivery attempt and customer recovery processes are frequently cited as unreliable.
I have recently received my package from auspost, and may I say, TERRIBLE, service. They had THROWN my package full of nail supplies, I do not work as a nail tech, but if I was, they would be hearing alot more from me. Now, let me get into the SINFUL service I received. I have two six foot pillars next to my front gate, they are hollow. Guess… Read more
where they put my package? INTO the PILLAR. I am a 5"3 woman, HOW AM I MEANT TO GET THAT? I contacted the customer hotline for auspost and I could say is, it was a disappointment, they completely disregarded the whole case. Overall, all i can say is that I'm disgusted at AusPost.
If I could give Aus Post a minus I would. 1 star is too generous. Why? This is a government department and those who work there are public servants (who do not serve). The head seemed to receive an extraordinary pay package, incomparable to anyone in private industry. Government departments exist to serve the Voters. So one expects 5-star service.… Read more
My package was being delivered from a well known shop. It cost an amazing amount for the p & p. This was the first time I had purchased from this shop. Other retailers have boxes where I always written, "please do not use Aus Post". It had a very negative reputation in this area. I have always had seamless service from private couriers. My parcel was sent from Melbourne to Brisbane, and my heart fell when I saw the parcel was coming by Aus Post. The Aus Post trip took over 1 week. Delivery was given as Wednesday or Thursday. Who waits for 2 days for mail? My written delivery instruction, printed on the package, was to drop the package in a safe locked area. Postman [Name Removed] decided something else. Luckily someone (E) was at the site and answered the bell. P [Name Removed] was informed to put the package in the safe area. No, [Name Removed] decided. You tell me your name and sign, this. P [Name Removed] held the package tightly. It was stated that there would be no signature until the package was deposited as per the instructions on the package. P [Name Removed] yelled ...my company... and went off on a mini vehicle. He yelled back to E to go to the post office and collect the package. E yelled back that he was a thief and the post office was not convenient. There were numerous reasons, apart from paying to have the parcel delivered, as to why it was not convenient to go to the post office during their opening hours. The local Labor MP, who was not available to speak, apparently cannot arrange for public servants in Aus Post to do their jobs. Would the police collect the stolen package? Would Consumer Affairs take this up with another one of our mismanaged, "fat" government departments? Can anyone explain why Postman [Name Removed] refused to deliver the package?
Item coming from Sydney to geelong. Yesterday it arrived at Avalon which is the correct direction. This morning it’s on board for delivery -“ great” I thought until I noticed that is on board for delivery from Casterton which is on the SA border! Well I look forward to the 10 hour drive to get it to me. Honestly just scrap tracking altogether as it’s unreliable and silly. Show details

Always friendly and polite, these people are awesome delivery persons Show details
Continuously supply me with accurate updates and on time deliveries. Although no company is perfect the way Australia Post strives for it they would have to be close. I couldn’t imagine any supplier wanting to use anyone else for deliveries privately or commercially. After dealing with Team Global Express and their 96% Failure rate to their customers it’s so refreshing to have Australia Post there! Show details
Australia post delivery - packaged box x1 and parcel x - receiver Very friendly Australia post driver, rang doorbell and waited patiently, about 30 seconds (!was washing up in the kitchen at the time). He was polite and courteous - his name was ? Dashan - not sure how to spell it. If an Aus Post rep sees this, I'd love for him to get the positive feedback! Packages arrived in good condition in a decent timeframe Show details

How inconvenient of the delivery staff who was working to deliver was delivered on top of shoes instead of placed on the doorstep very unprofessional whoever delivered this parcel not I'm going to give them a piece of my mind if I catch them doing this again if I know who is doing this I'm not impressed with how they delivered my package shame on them Show details
Australia Post seems to be going downhill fast, as far as parcel deliveries go anyway. Communication and delivery times used to be great and almost always delivered at the time they specified. Now we get ad hoc communications (sometimes none and the parcel just arrives or never does) along with unfathomable and wasteful delivery journeys. For… Read more
example, I purchased an item from a retailer at BATHURST on Wednesday morning which was to be delivered to me at Mudgee. The parcel was picked up by Auspost later that morning and approved for shipping at 12:50 pm that day.
Next entry was that it had arrived at a SYDNEY sorting facility on the Thursday late afternoon. Next entry it arrived back at BATHURST on the Friday 1:00 am and it's still stuck there.
So Auspost wasted two days and their time and effort shipping the item from Bathurst to Sydney and back to Bathurst again!
If Bathurst had simply put the parcel on the next Mudgee bound van I would have received it Thursday morning.
As it is, because of their crazy shipping zig-zags I'll be lucky to receive it by the next Monday!
This is not the first time this has happened either. I ordered an expensive ceiling fan from a retailer in Brisbane. The delivery journey showed it went from Brisbane to Sydney and back at least FOUR times. Finally it was officially declared lost and the retailer had to ship me a 2nd fan at their cost.
They badly need someone with an ounce of brains to come in and sort out their parcel routing madness and failing messaging service.
Not good enough.
It's my opinion that criminal organisations have infiltrated the Australia Post sorting facilities and transport hubs. It appears that precious metals have been disappearing at an alarming rate in the last 12 months. This has been well documented among coin collectors buying online. Also, bullion has been vanishing via the Australian post delivery… Read more
system. You only have to read reviews from the Perth Mint or forums. Years ago this would never happen, but these days goods that vanish without a trace is common with Australia Post. The Benalla Post Office was approached by myself expressing my concerns about the issue, they had zero interest in the matter. When I asked the lady at the Benella Post Office if postal workers carry mobile phones on them, I was told that's "confidential information". I asked this question because mobile phones can have metal-detecting apps installed on them. A simple wave over a parcel can detect if precious metals have been packed. Since Australia post don't care about theft, and you like to buy the odd piece of jewelry or coin online there is a big chance it will not arrive. That would also apply liquor being delivered. Makes no difference if the parcel has tracking or a signature on delivery. The contents will arrive opened with the goods missing. If you lodge an investigation with Australia Post in regard to lost or stolen goods, don't expect any effort will be made into recovery. So if you have an interest in a life of crime or belong to a criminal entity, send your resumé to Australia Post. They would love to hire you.
Absolutely incompetent people running Australia Post. My order has been all around the country, except where it should have gone. Followed the tracking and incorrectly sorted at 6 different locations. Unbelievable. How incompetent is that I ask? Get your act together Australia Post and employ competent employees. Show details

Follow-up · I contacted them, but received no response. Typical. No companies offer service now. Parcel was not insured, and packing was average. No padding.

Australia Post picked up my parcel at 4.00pm in Sydney and it was delivered to me in Melbourne by 1,00pm the next day. All tracking info was updated regulalrly. Excellent Service Show details
What a fantastic company to deal with. I have NEVER had any issues with Australia Post and their service is second to none. The drivers that contract to Australia Post are also excellent and always use care when delivery parcels. Well Done Australia Post be proud. Show details
Despite my previous review complaining about a parcel which had been mailed early March to the UK and still not delivered by May - I now need to retract those comments. efficient and within a few minutes had located my parcel. Apparently, the parcel had reached the UK within 6 days and an attempt to deliver it was unsuccessful as the residents were not at home. The postman attempted another delivery the following day, but once again the residents were not home. In fact they were out of the country. The parcel was then held at a local post office for several weeks. As it was not claimed, it was then sent back to Australia and I believe it is now in a Sydney depot. Apologies to Australia Post for not understanding the process in place when I posted my first review.

I wish I could give zero stars. My parcel left Perth on 27 May, and since then the tracking history has recorded 39 separate scans across 13 different suburbs — yet the parcel still hasn’t been delivered. The logistics make absolutely no sense. For example, the parcel was sent from Bayswater to Ballarat, despite its destination being an eastern… Read more
suburb of Melbourne. Watching the tracking updates has become a bizarre game of “Where will my parcel go next?” rather than a delivery service. Weeks later, I still have no parcel and no clear explanation from AusPost. This level of inefficiency is unacceptable. Customers pay for a delivery service, not a sightseeing tour of Victoria for their parcels.
It's okay, Ever since the internet took over and emails, messages and whatnot have been in use, postal services are just not the same. It does have fast posting, and the cards aren't beaten up when they reach them, but isn't it easier to just give them a quick text? The only circumstances I would use it is if I'm sending it with a parcel or if I'm sending to an elderly person who completely refuses to get a phone.
No it’s not Australia post it’s actually lazy post. I signed a contract with them to leave parcels at my door from December 2025 to December 2026. When trying to chase these it has been a bloody nightmare. 3 calls with women who don’t care This is so wrong when I filled out numerous forms last year to leave all my parcels at my door.
