Victa ENVIROMOWER – If you can get your hands on one you are lucky. Replacement of battery easy. If grass is long - hold the front of mower up. I have had to mow my front lawn twice with a R arm sling and I did well. Had it since 2007! No oil, light and no pulling cord to start it. WONDERFUL! Joy NZ Show details

Very poor in every respect – I have owned my blue enviromower for 7 years, bought for all the right reasons, but failed in every respect. I expected to mow regularly , but nearly always need to lift the blade and sweep twice or my 110 sq metre lawn tires it out completely. Grass collection is a joke. Worst purchase ever and those reviewing it well must be employees  Show details

An absolutely fantastic Mower – I bought my Enviromower in 2005. Was a bit sceptical at first but after using it and trying to get the best out of it, its just the best. I've had lots of mowers over the years and the Enviromower kills everyone of them. It cuts low as low as the more powerful petrol mowers. It cuts up close to edges as well. Its lightweight, has a square battery… Read more

and as long as the battery is charged it should just keep going. My back and front yards are quite big and with a petrol mower it would take at least an hour and a half to cut the lot and do a good job. I live on about a 1/4 acre. The Enviromower does a good job. The battery lasts for about 1 1/2 hours fully charged. I'm on my 3rd battery. They have a life of about 5 years. The mowers when they first came out had an attachment which fitted on the front. This was a line cutter for doing the lawn edges. it came in a spool which when it ran out you just put a new one in. In would cut on any angle. The worst part of using that was to manoeuvre the mower into the desired position to cut around objects. In a straight line, no problem. The mower is not heavy and cold easily be handled by man or woman. The only problem I ever had with my mower is that the bottom of the mower is plastic. Every now and then, I knock it on something and it would drop down and interfere with the mowing operation. Over time this would happen but its held together well over the years. The only thing now is that the plastic base under the body is cracked. I charge the battery after every cut and sometimes have to cut the grass twice a week. Never a problem. If you want the battery to last, Charge it. If you know anything about batteries, you'll know to charge it. Like I said, mine last about 5 years.

I have just found out that Victa does;t make these mowers anymore. I'm not surprised as before they bought out the company that sold them in Australia, they were selling them like hot cakes. Victa would have been feeling the pressure. They were originally made in Taiwan by a company called Enviromower that had a shop in Plenty Road, Preston. Back up and parts was never a problem. I paid about $500 for mine about 12 years ago and for a lawn mower it would have to be the best investment I've any got. I can't praise it enough.

Great for small lawn – Bought in 2011 this because our lawn is small (120 m²) and fairly slow growing (most of the year!) I always use it in mulching mode to return nutrients to lawn and it cuts fine this way. The mower is also light (I can carry with one hand), easy to manoeuvre and much quieter than a petrol one. It does not cut close to the edge but as we have a… Read more

very irregular lawn it needs trimming anyway so it is no inconvenience.

Battery is more than enough for us and I always recharge after use for 24 hours as recommended. However (big however), I notice the battery discharges while stored. I'm guessing something in the mower draws power even when not in use. I think this might be the reason for the reports of poor battery life in other reviews. My solution is to remove the plug-in overload (the black thing on the top) when I put it away. That way the battery is always fine when I come to use it.

Despite being almost 6 years old the battery is going fine. The battery box contains 2-12 volt 10 amp-hour sealed batteries that are widely available (about $43 each) and easily replaced so I will do that when the time comes. At that price they are far cheaper than lower capacity lithium batteries used in other mowers. (e.g. $229 for current 40 volt 4 amp-hour Victa lithium battery.)

Not powerful enough! – I wanted a mower that I could use without bothering to worry about buying petrol. This mower was a mistake and definitely not the answer. For a start it cannot cut anywhere near an edge as the blade does not extend as far out as the wheels. Therefore there is an area of about 4 inches or so that the blade can never reach. My front lawn consists… Read more

of seeded grass and the mower can cut this if the grass is not long and not wet. However my back lawn is couch grass and the enviromower just isn't powerful enough to cut this at all. Also, the mulching plug that comes with the mower is useless as the mower does not have enough power to mulch.

I think the mower should have two separate blades rather than a bar blade as this might meet with less resistance to the lawn.

Replacement batteries are very expensive as well.

I would not recommend this to anyone.

NB: There are a number of different enviromowers; mine was yellow in colour and supposedly a little more powerful than the red one (and therefore a little more expensive). They have apparently changed somewhat since I bought mine so my story may now be passe.

Bit pricey but did buy 10 years ago – Doesn't last long on long grass, so several passes required if you can't regularly mow. If the lawn is on undulating terrain the motor struggles on crests, and wears battery out faster. Catcher is okay in size, but grass dosen't fling into it very well, so it's necessary to empty it before full. Better to use the mulcher fitting. The blade… Read more

dosen't reach out past the wheel width, so narrow cutting path and a but painful if one is particular about reaching close to fence lines.

Battery quality is mediocre, and it's not coming with a proper battery monitor charger, but if you are a set and forget sort of user.

The motor is not brushless, and after replacing the battery, the mower was still performing poorly. Turns out after taking it apart that springs pushing brushes onto the commutator were jammed after a bit of wear, and lost contact.

Having said all that it has a simple construction and is self repairable.

mower bliss – I bought my yellow environmower in Bundaberg in 2008 from Nowa in Bundaberg and whilst I dont have much lawn I still use the original battery but have just bought the second one as the old one was not holing the charge. blessing and so very quiet. I have used the mulcher for branches up to 8mm thick and lots of leaves so saved $ on buying mulch over the past 10 years. Its a small blessing in my life as I get older, the press of a button, the lift of a handle and away I go. So much greener than fuel driven mowers and can't understand why no longer

only good for small putting greens – If you happen to own a tiny sweet little putting green , about the size of a postage stamp , it will be the perfect mower for you. You will have to cut it every other day because if you let it get away the mower won't cope. Mulching ??? Better take the cuttings away otherwise the blade will bog down.  Show details

A great little machine, very reliable – I've been more than happy with my enviro mower. I have a standard size suburban block and after wiper snipping my mower gets the job done with no fuss. I've owned my mower for 9 years now and I'm still using my original battery but now need a new one. You just need to stick to the operating instructions and it'll work a treat, and don't mow wet grass or in the rain and sharpen your blade twice a year.  Show details

New battery - Ouch ! – I love the easy start and the light weight, however after purchasing a new battery I was expecting more than 30 minutes of mowing. If this machine is not the answer can another electric mower be recommended by others? Is there a specialist centre where I can have all elements checked in Melbourne? Would sharpening the blades extend the life of the battery?  Show details

Short battery life, runs for only half hour! – Cannot cut close to edges, narrow mowing strip, cannot cut low. The grass sticks to the underside of the mower and clogs up the chute so needs frequent clearing by hand. Defeats the purpose we bought it for, which is ease of use in our older age, plus the environmental factor of a quieter machine, not petrol driven. Other than that it is very easy… Read more

Poor performance poor design poor support – Cannot cut as low as a petrol or even electric (plug in) (on a low setting battery power gets exhausted quickly due to the extra pressure on the mower) Cost to maintain is consideration - batteries expensive and need regular replacements roughly every 2 years. Instead of normal batteries they use a custom built battery case which must be… Read more

specially ordered and isn't cheap.

Difficult to use in wet weather / high moisture grass - the grass tends to stick to the plastic around the blade and slows down the blade. Within a short time the power drops off and pressure causes the safety switch to kill the power if you don't stop it first. In this environment you have to constantly turning the mower over, removing the sticky grass by hand and start cutting again. I had a video of this I'd love to share. Its slow work.

Long charge time - 12 - 16 hours and must maintain charge when not in use which is an extra thing to keep track of.

Poor support from Victa

Overall its OK for very small flat and simple grass areas but I'd not buy one again.

Great for smaller lawns but battery life an issue – I bought a new replacement battery for my Grey and Yellow Enviromower two (2) years ago - and it has died already. I am now looking at buying a battery replacement kit as this will hopefully be better. Maybe I shouldn't leave the charger pluged in after the battery has charged - but if I don't leave it on charge then the mower isn't ready when I want to use it. Otherwise I am happy with the performance of the mower itself.

Very Happy – Had my red Victa Environmower for about 7 years and it fired every time and the battery and its charge were quite satisfactory. For average lawns (i.e. grass not too long or thick) it's fine. I have to mow every two or three days as the mower will NOT cut much grass off at a time, and that is the quickest way to kill a battery. (I mow on the third lowest setting.) I have a small block (569 square metres) with mostly garden beds, and a 15 metre footpath frontage. Also a lane to a side entrance, but it is not very big. The kikuyu and couch grass where I live in Toowoomba grows pretty quickly even after little rain, and there is NO WAY that I could mow once a week - I have to be out there at least twice a week. I don't know how people could claim to mow every two or three weeks. And large blocks too? I love the concept, but am disappointed with the product.

Great product – Bought one 2nd hand at least ten years ago, then bought another with 2 batteries for less than one battery. Used a lot, but irregularly. Charged according to instructions. Best battery has lasted for one hour plus on wet grass. Now they have all given up and I am buying a set of 2 new batteries (to go in old case) for $120NZ plus delivery which seems OK. If this works well, will probably buy another kit.

Is the battery supposed to last longer then 20 minutes? – I like the mower and can cope with 20 minutes of battery life, but upon reading these reviews I have no idea how long a fully charged battery is supposed to last.? I do mulch and I do like a long lawn, so mow on highest setting.ive only used it a couple of times on dryish grass,on tiny but sloping lawn.

Does The Job Well – I have 2 of these bought online, they can mow a 600 meter property with ease if you charge the batteries with a decent charger not the one you get with it, as the unit that comes with it will eventually just cook the batteries. Plastic is very good and it picks grass up well.

Not perfect – I bought my Enviromower second hand about two years ago and I have noticed the lack of power, narrow cut and no edge cut. plug or the noise of petrol mowers - or the cord of the other electric mowers. I don't have a lot of grass to cut but I only do half one day and, after an overnight charge, the rest the following day. I have taken the blade off and sharpened it and I only get the mower out if the grass is dry - my next mower will probably be petrol.

Wonderful lightweight mower – I've had my Enviromower for 5 year and I've been extremely happy with it. Having a disability, this mower allows me to continue doing my own gardening. Could be better – The battery charger is simply a power supply. In this day and age of good cheap electronics the charger should be of the type that brings the battery to the correct charge and stops, possibly leaving a slight trickle charge running. batteries better. The batteries are more temperamental than the newer Lithium Ion rechargeable batteries, so we ended up purchasing a new Ego mower instead of getting a new battery.

Good for what I need it to do – I recently had major back surgery and I was looking for a mower without a pull start and environmentaly friendly. After talking to my local mower dealer I settled on the Victa and it has turned out to be a good decision. The only drawback is the time taken to fully recharge which is usually 24 hours. It cuts well and doesn't put undue strain on my back. I would recommend.

Sort of ok - not good value for money – Bought it new and used it for just over a year. Like any product it has its limitations. under powered in spite of a narrow cut, does not cut close to either edge (we have trees/bushes and each gets a bigger bushy ring which needs more trimming), AND we need to be slaves to the battery charging regime. Knowing too much about batteries, I'm very disappointed in the sub-standard, for this day and age, "charger". It's not really a charger, just a power source that the user needs to determine when to put it on, take it off. Imagine If you needed to do that with your laptop, car battery or cellphone. Yes cars have had lead-acid charging technology which does not cook the battery for MANY years! No it's not expensive! If I had known about this "charger" I would have got another 4-stroke instead. Very annoying. For the price I expected one of the mature Lithium tech battteries. I'm a hopeless dreamer.

Somewhat underpowered, so since our lawn has parts which are denser than others I find myself using the height adjustment very often, else it stalls on the denser parts. Annoying.

Oh and the nuts and screws holding the handle and cover on keep unscrewing. Have to tighten them every 5 mows or so. Annoying.
