Pros:
This is a great value product, for the start-up business owner who wants to move from Excel spreadsheets, or the free product provided by the ATO. It has many features that the larger MYOB packages have. It is also a good starting point, as it will upgrade to any of the other MYOB packages. It is worth spending the money and getting an MYOB Certified Consultant to assist you in the set-up, to ensure that it is correct from the start. You can dowload a free trial version from www.myob.com.au that lasts for 90 days.
Cons:
It has a very simple inventory, but can not track units. It does not have the capacity to track payroll easily.
Overall:
This is NOT the standard MYOB product, it is the very basic version. If you have the money to spend, you should go straight to MYOB Accounting which retails at around $350. This is the product for the part-time yoga teacher, or music tutor that wants to track their solo operations. It is great value for money.
Pros:
This product is easy to use and saves the accountant lots of keying in time at the end of the tax year.
Cons:
This product doesn't really allow you to keep track of inventories or payroll.
Overall:
This is a great small business tool which is aimed at the "shoe box" type taxpayer. It is an easy way for small businesses to keep track of income and expenses as an alternative to a manual cashbook system. It also keeps track of GST liabilities if required. It can be used to prepare the quarterly BAS statements and prepare annual financial statements. The user can send the data file to their accountant at year end for easier preparation of tax returns. I would recommend it to all small businesses.
