Good – Wouldn't be without it now, a must have when going on tour as it stops the fights between the wife and I on where to turn next. Had it for 6 weeks now, got it for a road trip and love not being lost much of the time. Very easy to use and looks good too. The screen mount is a bit of a pain and it takes forever to update.

Excellent – I would certainly recommend , the trax430 as good value for money . It certainly is quick to recalulate the routes and gives plenty of time to allow for turns and lane changing. I would be confident to trust the trax430 to navigate through a major city using the precise and clear voice and 3d guidance. Came with a free update offer for 2009… Read more

mapping.

Great looking slim unit, much better than the old so called (ergonomic shapes of the older models)

Clear voices ,spoken street names is fantastic (TTS) instant rerouting.

easy to follow menu, 3d view is good and easy to follow.

Battery life is extremley good, easy 3 hours.

we rarley use the in car charger,

I charge it inside with an ac charger i purchased separately.

Speedo function is very accurate.

Most destinations it navigates right to the doorway

Nice slim construction, great for velcro mounting into the car console, or flat mounting elswhere.

Other makes eg (Tom Tom go) have huge bulbous rounded backs, and it is impossible to flat mount them, or even lie them flat in the console.

We tossed up between buying the uniden trax430 or the Mio move 300, In the end the deciding factor was the offer of the 2009 map updates for the trax 430. Whereis maps tend to be a little inaccurate in regional country areas.(Not the 430 units fault)

No ac adapter supplied with unit, windscreen mount is extremly hard to adjust, and needs considerable force to set the angle ,

also it tends to be way too long.

Speed alerts dont work in some country areas,

Cant seem to get the unit to accept trip routes made on whereis or google maps.

Does not have the download support that tom tom has, eg extra voices map sharing etc.

Good – I only bought it a day ago and used it last night to navigate to an area I had never been, this was at around 11pm. So all was dark and unfamiliar. I got there fine. I found the initial way to program in your destination good (It knows the streets in each area and helps you type them) I dont know if it was because I was rushing, but the window… Read more ·  1

mount fell off a few times.

My ute is quite loud and I found the voices hard to hear when I was on the freeway or a fast road.

On one occasion it fell off my window and I picked it back up but must have hit some button as the map went into a massively zoomed out version. I figured it out eventually, but it meant pulling over for a couple of minutes and yelling! :)

I'm off on another longer drive today to a new spot so I will spend a bit more time setting it up and hopefully it will be kinder to me.

Over all cons I found: (some of these may just be from me not setting it up right)

- Speaker not loud enough

- only 4 voices to choose from

- window mount wasn't strong enough (might just have a dodgy one?)

Pros:

- Massive screen

- Detailed maps

- Big touch buttons

- Predictive typing

Im giving the unit a 4/5. Bear in mind that this was straight out of the box, about 30 seconds setup time. I believe I will grow to like it once I know how to use it better. Large screen, Detailed maps. Low volume? More features means slightly less user friendly.

Excellent – A full featured GPS at a bargain price. latest maps, incl NZ. Highly customisable, incl dynamic volume. Includes favourites, history and track logs. Can set waypoints, add speed cameras and POI on the fly. Shows speed limits and has configurable warning thresholds. Good battery life. Good mounting options. Not much! TTS (spoken names) only with US accent. Fonts a little small in some screens. No 240v charger (minor point)

OK – I really didn't want one, but my wife refused to read maps or use street directories. It should be fun seeing her doing as she is told for once. We will see how this works out. Have just bought it. Seems to be easy to use. Good instruction book. Will have to see how good it works. So far, I have discovered that my brother's address and the address on one off my close friends do not exist, but the houses next to them do! Go figure.
