Has stood the test of time – I bought my Masport 40 Quattro back in 1997 from a local mower shop. The owner of the shop said the Briggs & Stratton motor will go forever and the Masport frame is Australian made & Aluminium so will never rust.,Also the model I bought has no catcher attachment which I loved. I live on a standard quarter acre block and now on average every… Read more

second week for about an hour..

Up until last week it has never been to the work shop .,I change the spark plug once a year and keep it well topped up with good oil regularly .,cleaned out the air filter once a blue moon..

So I not sure about the new Masport Mowers but for me that was an excellent model and been outstanding ...

Sub standard pile of crap – Had one of these for 6 years and its had light use on a suburban yard. It went OK for about 3 years but has fallen apart since. Plastic wheel broke. Throttle control broke. Bolts vibrated loose and went missing. Fuel tank broke. Had to replace carburettor. Now the side to side brace at the rear under the catcher has snapped so the whole box… Read more

section is skew. I can't believe i'm so hard on mowers. It is really disappointing and i will steer clear of this brand in future.

What happened to Masport brand?? – I have had the base plate suffer from metal fatigue on the 460 model causing the plate to drop on the ground. This should never happen and is dangerous. I got another 6 mths or so by welding but it happened again. The throttle assembly also shat itself and even the masport emblem had split in half. Very unfortunate as I used to always recommend this brand.

The local area hears me whe I use my Masport – The industrial designers at Masport were watching an All Blacks match before thinking about how they would crouch, touch, engage the catcher to the rear of the mower. Looking at how well they bound, they decided that friction was the best way for the catcher to remain in place. Brilliant. As the catcher fills or any area of your lawn gets above 5… Read more

degrees, the catcher disengages and the frequency only increases as the mower gets older. The shop that sells them are almost indignant as they proudly tells me they are the most popular mower. I suspect that is down to the day one purchase price which quickly disappears when you have it serviced as the bits that break, like the spreader bar, the throttle and cable replaced. They have offer to fix the catcher that they tell me is within "tolerance" but at my cost too. Not sure why not fit for purpose is the customers fault?

A Good Midrange Machine – Being a commercial lawn mower I need to upkeep alot of equipment. Keeping in mind what needs what, and when means keeping a maintenance book. I find Masport machines need less mechanical work than other brands due to the matching of engine to chassis, yes there can be alot of ware and tare but keep in mind several factors. 1. This machine is… Read more

designed to be affordable. 2. It isn't built to be slammed around or used as a rock crusher. 3. Regular maintenance of ALL parts will extend it's life. I have had mowers last years past their used by date just by looking after them. Base plates do ware off on any machine, it happens, just like blades ware down due to friction. Wheels and assemblies break more often if it constantly gets slammed after a turn. I even still have old rovers from decades ago for backup. Pick on the tools all you like, but you can't expect the best from a cheap mower unless you treat it well.

Pile of crap that is only good for landfill ! – Will never go near a Masport again. Wheels fall of, spreader bar at catcher fell off, front wheel assembly fell apart and after repairing all this over time the blade plate fell off whilst mowing. The bolt holding this plate is still on the mower so how this come to drop off is a great mystery. Nothing but trouble with this heap of garbage. Next… Read more

mower will be a Victa again for sure.... Please people, save your sanity and never ever buy a Masport mower... (not even sure you could call it a mower) !

Ok until it falls apart after a year – This mower started well and was adequate for the torture we put it through - uneven ground, tree roots, knee high grass.... But a year later the wheels have fallen off, the whole front wheel assembly has removed itself from the body of the mower, the catcher won't stay together and the terrible vibration cause the bolt holding the handle together to continually come apart.

Masport Morrison 490 - Wont be buying another Masport – As other reviewers have found, the blade assembly plate metal-fatigues and falls off! I have never seen this happen to any other mower, especially one that mows nothing but suburban lawn. Every wheel has had to be replaced. I've had to drill and add rivets to keep things together. On the plus side. It started well and the catcher worked… Read more

well. But that's no good if the body keeps falling apart.

I simply need a mower to cut a suburban lawn without falling apart. How hard can that be?

Shockingly terrible mower – For starters, someone should get every single one of these that ever had the misfortune of coming off the chineese assembly line, and blow them up. Then boycott Masport for allowing such a shocking product to be unleashed on an unsuspecting public. Before I made the huge mistake of thinking Masport were a brand I could trust for quality, I owned a… Read more

Rover Super Cut, now that was a real lawn mower. This Masport thing, from the moment I started it, vibrated so much that my hands and arms kept vibrating long after finishing mowing.

The 550 series B & G engine is surprisingly gutless, to the point where it is not hard at all to stall it. It started falling apart within the first year I owned it, first a flimsy piece of metal that is attached between the rear wheels just below the axle snapped which meant the chassis became too small for the catcher to fit without me fixing the metal thing with wire.

Then the metal bar that attaches to the front wheel assembly decided it didn't want to stay attached and keeps popping out resulting in the height lever only raising the rear end and not the front unless I manually put the height lever back in it's hole near the front wheel.

And to top it all off, the actual plate that holds the cutting blades sheared off due to what looks like metal fatigue. If the whole blade assembly had have come away it could have been very dangerous. So now the mower is not even usable. This useless mower lasted barely 3 years from new, it's never had to work hard, my front and back lawns aren't very big and it's flat land so I can't blame heavy workloads on it's complete breakdown.

It all boils down to the fact that it's just chineese garbage that Masport should be totally ashamed of.I would have taken it back to Bunnings long ago except that my wife misplaced the docket so I have no proof of purchase. If only I could afford another Rover, they put Masport to shame. If it were possible I'd give this mower a -5 star rating. The engine started, usually quite easily Flimsy, shocking quality, so much so that it literally fell apart.

Not enough expletives – There are not enough expletives in all the worlds languages to express my profound disgust with this mower. Perhaps it can be summed up in the few words in fine print on the mower itself, that I somehow missed when checking it out at that hardware that is renowned for the garbage they sell, none other than Bunnings themselves. The fine print on… Read more

the mower "Manufactured in PRC". Almost says it all, manufactured in the peoples republic of china except for the part that Bunnings, Masport, truth, justice and the American way of exploiting developing nations to maximise profit play in supplying a useless mower. The wheels fell off, the spreader bar that holds the tin plate chasis apart at the catcher broke off. Now the plate with the blades on it has broken off. The mower is supposed to be used for only 40 minutes per hour, which I have done by alternating mowing and whipper snippering. My last mower lasted about 25 years and you could run it all day. This mower is barely been going for one and a bit seasons.

Everything. I only had it out for the first time and one of the back wheels fell off. Tied that on with wire. Didn't take long before the other wheels fell off. Now the blade plate has fallen off.

Easy start – I don't think I have ever had a mower start so well first pull. My old mover albeit a 19 in model started wee I thought till I brought this one. The 250st is also quite a light feeling mower. Brought this from Bunnings and they had to beat mega10 by 15%. A good mower for $483.66. Easy start, light weight 18'frame is ok but a 19' would mean more done for the same timeframe

Terrible – We bought this Mower from Bunnings in March 2009 have mowed our lawn (700sq mtr) about 5 times since, and then it stopped revving. We went back to Bunnings with the mower and they sent it off as it was still under warranty. Only to get a call back saying that we needed to pay for the servicing of it that was the only problem. My partner was… Read more

very unhappy cause you shouldn't have to service a mower after 5 times of mowing your yard. There was calls from Bunnings to Masport and Masport didn't want to come to the party so Bunnings refunded our mower and let us buy a Victa Mustang with honda engine! Thank you very much to bunnings cause the new mower is way better!

Terrible – Will never buy a Masport again. Vibration through handle makes it almost unbearable to use. Took it back to point of purchase ( Bunnings) and was assured mower was working well. Salesman must have been used to using a jackhammer to consider the mower to be normal. Strong and powerful Vibration. Feed back through handle almost unbearable

Good – Masport are the best and easy to maintain. Everybody should own one. I will be buying a 550ST mulch/catch next week. The 4 stroke is the best. You can hear the engine heart beat. This mower is made in NZ and the engine is very silent. Everyone in my neighbourhood has remarked about its quietness and I will never part with this beauty. Love your… Read more

Masport and it will give you decades of service. You must change the oil every year. I use car engine oil SAE 15W/30 J and never had a problem with torque. The mower has an upright recoil starter and is very difficult to assemble once the cord breaks. I have a Masport 635 with a quantum 32. engine for the past 25 years and this beauty with 4 blades cut through grass like a knife thru butter. I only change the filter every three years and the oil yearly. With ball brg. wheels it rolls like a skate. the mower is vibrating a little now maybe because of its age. The upright recoil starter is very difficult to install when replacing the starter cord

Excellent – the Masport Classic, is a brilliant lawn mower, it glides across the grass no worries! Ever since I was young back in New Zealand, my father told me to buy Masport over other brands because they last longer. To this day I have always owned a Masport. I had previously found them hard to find though, that is until I walked into a Bunnings store!… Read more

Through out the past twenty years here in Australia I have only ever had 2..and this one is only 62 years old, if it lasts as long as my previous Masport ui will be happy! I have always owned Masport mowers, they are reliable and priced well, versatile and start relatively easy. I haven't had any problems with Masport Mowers

OK – greeat mower its just the motor that lets me down. i used to have one with a 2 cycle briggs and stratton engine and was alot better. very heavy engine with no power either. also it is not very fuel efficient at all. which i personally hate. good to see that 2 cycles have a better fuel consumption though. buy a 2 cycle version of this mower with… Read more

confidence! good catcher has no power in the engine un like a 2cycle engine on full throttle it just doesnt get any where. it doesnt rev and doesnt mulch. its not that comfortable to push as it is very very heavy. 2 cycle mowers are nicer to puch because of the lighter engine. good to see a mulch option later on though.
