Pros: Great low cost products for starting up a house. Love the displays for inspiration and design ideas for small spaces.

Cons: Can be a very inefficient way to shop. With only one store in Melbourne it's often really really busy.

Overall: Ikea has everything you could imagine for the house and has a good range of goods to suit all budgets. They have great smaller accessories for the kitchen, bathroom and household decorating including a great selection of plants (although I'm skeptical that they would survive once out in the 'real' world. I do find though that when visiting Ikea you need to have lots of time and patience. Sometimes, it's hard to find what you need and staff are few and far between. The sheer size of the place alone can be daunting for some. Despite this, I still like to shop there a couple of times a year when I am in the mood for redecorating.

Pros: I love ikea, the prices are great and for setting up a home you can't go past them. They have so many nifty little space and time saving devices. The cafe is awesome!

Cons: There are a few quality issues with some products, and the lack of on floor service can be annoying.

Overall: Ikea is not a high end store so don't expect a high end shopping experience. It is self serve and most furniture needs assembly. If you don't have a large car or roof racks transport is a pain, but they do deliver. We have furnished almost our entire house from ikea, and many of the cheaper items have not lasted, especially the drawer bottoms and laminate have had issues. However, for the price, they have lasted very well. They have a large range of different prices and quality, and I love the way most of thier products look. The kids love the cafe and I love the price of the food!

Pros: Excellent displays and low prices.

Cons: Not many of these shops about the place. It is a maze to go through the place and is hard to avoid having to walk around the entire store. Putting stuff together yourself can be a drag sometimes.

Overall: I have bought a few items from here over the last few years and have been happy with the purchases. It is not high end furniture however it is competitive even cheap prices and functional furniture. I doubt that the items would last all that well over an extended period of time such as moving around the house and in particular if you move house a few times. I have a desk for example that has basically been in the same place since I got it but think if I was to be moving it around a bit would loosen up and start to get a bit ricketty.
