Best personal electronic devices in 2020!

Headphones, mobile phones and tablets - these are the personal electronic devices that most of us have at least one of and the electronic devices we probably use the most every day. Good, reliable tech doesn't come cheap and with new technology products constantly being released, it isn't always an easy choice deciding what to buy when there are so many options available. So this year, with more data than ever we've rounded up the best small electronic devices of 2019. We have specific reviewer ratings, ranging from Battery Life and Sound / Camera Quality to Value for Money and Ease of Use to help you make the most informed decision.

Wireless Headphones

This year's award for the best wireless headphones is tied between the Bose quietComfort 35 QC35 II (Award Winner in 2019) and Sennheiser PXC 500. These two flagship over-ear headphones by two of the best headphone brands have similar specifications with both retailing at $499.95 and featuring noise cancelling capabilities. However, the Sennheiser offers a 30 hour battery life and 2 year warranty as opposed to the Bose's 20 hour battery life and 1 year warranty.

Recently in August this year, Bose released the Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones 700, which has a slightly better noise-cancelling capability and 4 adaptive microphones compared to the two on the QC53 II. An upgraded version of the Sennheiser PXC 500, the Sennheiser PXC 500-II is also being released in the coming months. Given that these products will be the new flagships, you might be able to find our award winners at a discounted price, or you might prefer to get the new models.

An honourable mention goes to Sony's WH-1000XM3, which has a lower overall rating compared to Bose and Sennheiser's headphones (some reviewers experienced connectivity issues), but outperforms the other two in specific ratings such as Battery Life and Noise Cancellation. Take a look at the table below to compare all the specific reviewer ratings.

If you're looking for the best in-ear headphones, the Apple AirPods are a popular choice. Apple has also just released the AirPods Pro, which feature Active Noise Cancelling so we look forward to seeing how they measure up to the gold standard set by the flagship over-ear headphones of renowned brands like Bose and Sony.

Mobile Phones

This year two Samsung mobile phones, the Galaxy s10+ and Galaxy A20 are our best mobile phone award winners for 2019.

The high end Samsung Galaxy s10+ retails between $1,499 and $2,399 depending on storage size and comes with features like expandable storage, wireless charging and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Rated highly for its camera quality, reviewers also like the user experience, battery life and reliability of the phone. If you're looking for 5G network compatibility, the Samsung Galaxy s10 5G is a viable option.

On the other end of the spectrum, the wallet friendly Samsung Galaxy A20 retails for $279 and with a USB-C charging port and long battery life, reviewers consider it very good value for money.

For Apple fans, the iPhone XR has also received many positive reviews; an earlier release date of 2018 means it wasn't considered for an award this year. The iPhone XR2 is also expected to come on the market soon, so we'll see if users think the upgraded version is worth it.

Tablets

Last year, Apple's iPad Pro (2nd Generation) won the award for best tablet. This year, their latest model, the Apple iPad Pro (3rd Generation) has continued the streak and won the best tablet award for 2019. This top of the line tablet is Apple's most powerful, largest and expensive iPad, meant for professionals or for people wanting the highest screen resolution or processing power. In addition to praising the display quality and camera quality, reviewers are especially pleased with Face ID and a USB-C port that this upgraded model has.

The Apple iPad (6th Generation) also gets an award, so if you're having trouble deciding between the iPad and iPad Pro, you can compare the average reviewer ratings below. Apple has just released the 7th Generation model of the iPad, and given the company's excellent track record, we expect it to be good too.

If you're looking for an Android tablet, Samsung has released several tablets this year, including the Samsung Galaxy Tab s6 and Samsung Galaxy Tab A. As relatively new products, they haven't made it onto our Awards lists this year, but have promising reviews thus far. So if you're not a fan of Apple, you might prefer one of these tablets instead.
