ABSOLUTELY AMAZING TOOLBought an FS94 loop handle after much research. Extremely happy with the product. Very easy to start and use. The power is great. Does have a small amount of vibration at half/low throttle but I don't generally operate the tool at that throttle so doesn't matter to me. So very fuel economical and light. Very happy with the purchase Show details

Good at times, otherwise very frustratingThis product was good at first but gradually became tedious and frustrating to use, wasting more time than it saved. Chain CONSTANTLY coming off, despite so many frequent attempts at taking it apart, re-aligning etc etc etc e... Read moretc. So hard to get even one decent cut in at times. Other times it worked better.
Finally, the very small plastic bolt holding the cutting bar snapped - now completely useless.
Bought December 2023, $250 down the drain by April 24. Will be going back to STIHL but don’t like my chances of replacement.
Either way this tool can be frustrating to use at least 50% of the time you try to use it, and adequate the rest of the time.

Worst experience with Stihl and Stihl shop MeltonVery poor service. I bought a chainsaw thinking this is the best brand and it seized up in less than 6 months use.
I took it back to Stihl shop melton, as it is supposed to have a 4 year warranty(They sold me additional 2 yea... Read morers at the time of purchase), I followed up a few times, and after 2 weeks I get it back and they ask for a charge of $65. I asked what's the charge for? I brought it back for repairs under warranty? And I'm told that this was not covered as it is user error?????? A chainsaw where the pull cord doesn't pull and is siezed up and on multiple phone calls I'm advised that a siezed pull cord is never a good sign, and then I'm told there was nothing wrong and we serviced it and hence the $65 charge? without authorization. Beware. Better buy something from bunnings. even the Ryobi at half the price and if it breaks, atleast bunnings would provide instant service and not keep you hanging for 2 weeks and ask you money to sit on it and then say there was nothing wrong with it. I wish there was an option to give negative stars for wastage of time and for being without a saw when it was needed for a few broken trees in the house!

VerifiedA very, very good corded line trimmerIf you are reading this, it means you must be looking for a plug in/corded/240V whipper snipper or line trimmer. (Otherwise of course you would be after a rechargeable or petrol one!) I spent a bit of time researching plug in... Read more line trimmers because for my specific situation, I needed this type. After doing the research, I settled on the Stihl FSE 71. The usage is for a yard about 20 x 15m, with a central power point. It is a regular grass yard bounded by paling fences with some concrete path on one edge. Given that, here are my thoughts:
VALUE: I bought it direct from a Stihl outlet for $199; I thought this was good value. It is a quality, well-made unit, well packaged with good instructions. It even comes with a pair of safety goggles!
ASSEMBLY: Straightforward with one exception: the handle has to be pushed over the shaft before a clamping bolt is put in to clamp it in place. The handle is VERY hard to get over the shaft: I had to use multigrip pliers and a rubber mallet to get it on! Apart from that, no issues. The cutting head is very easy to put on.
BASICS: The unit is light and well balanced. It is a curved shaft unit, and has a convenient hook to hang it from if you wish. A nice touch is a built in clip to put the power cord into so it will not accidentally unplug if you pull on it.
USE: Like most line trimmers these days, it has a safety switch that must be pressed before you use the ttrigger. In summary, it is a ripper! (No pun intended!). Apart from being very quiet, it is light and easy to manoeuvre, and not too hard to hold so the line axis is vertical (for doing path edges). It has a TON of power and chews through long grass very easily. I really liked its ability to "mow" areas that were too tight for the lawn mower to fit, and also its ability to get into corners- some previous line trimmers I have used can only do a left or a right hand corner well, but this one can do both. The bump feed works very well and the line feeds out easily without binding (remembering that this is a new unit). All in all, it chews through the yard much faster than previous units I have used, and no need to worry about running out of battery power or petrol!
PROS: Well constructed; good instructions; easy to clean; light and very powerful
CONS: Handle is a pain to attach; the unit has a power cord (if that is a problem for you)
VERDICT: if you are looking for a corded line trimmer, I highly recommend this model

Light enough to use effortlessly, but powerful enough to not take all dayI bought my 231 for small pruning jobs around the yard, track clearing, camping and to compliment my much larger saw (661 w/ 30 and 36" bar) in firewood cutting.

ting. Pull it until it first tries to start, the click it up one position and it will always start next pull. I'm very happy with it and haven't had a single issue in these first 6months, I've easily and fairly quickly cut down trees of upto 14" diameter. I was worried it would feel slow and sluggish compared to the 661. However it's a pleasure to use, when used within its limits. The mulcher works a treat. I have buffalo and almost never use the catcher. Pays to keep the underneath clean(an easy task). I paid for the bigger battery and fast charger. Can’t compare but to say. I’d say with an average lawn (150-180 sqm) single charge. Adjustment for height is way. Wide cut appreciated. I’ve mowed sections for my neighbour after their Ryobi and Makita couldn’t do it. I was concerned about battery availability in a few years but as the salesman said, this is powered by batteries used in many other Stihl pro tools and superseding them isn’t done lightly. Makes my investment safer.
If you want to go electric spend the bit extra. Saving a few hundred dollars pays for itself if you need to replace a cheaper light one in a few years.
